Swachhta Hi Seva Programme

Swachhta Hi Seva campaign was observed by the Constituent Colleges, Research Stations and

Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Dr.YSRHU from 15th September, 2017 to 2nd October, 2017. The cleanliness

campaign was inaugurated to emphasise and enhance the importance of hygiene and proper sanita-

tion among the public to pave the way for national development.

RHWEP Activities

On 16.09.2017, Ms.N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.) and Sri.P.Raja

Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) from KVK, Pandirimamidi along with

Dr.K.Sesha Kiran, Asst Professor (Pl. Path.), CoH, V.R.Gudem and

RHWEP students of College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem

visited bhendi, brinjal, cassava and ridge gourd fields at Devaram and

Indukurupeta. Severe incidence of hadda beetle, shoot and fruit borer

in brinjal, mosaic disease in cassava was noticed and suggested suitable management practices for

the observed pests and diseases.

UG admissions-2017

One hundred and thirty two students have joined in B.Sc (Hort.)

course at College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem for the

academic year 2017-18. The orientation programme was

conducted to the students along with their parents on 18.09.2017.

Dr. K. Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean and all the teaching faculty

members interacted with the students and their parents

highlighting the importance and the future avenues of the course.

Education

Notable Research Findings

The parasitoid on coconut slug caterpillar (Macroplectra nararia) identi-

fied at HRS, Ambajipeta and sent for identification to NRC on Banana

was identified as Pediobius imbrues. It is also a hyper parasitoid on

natural enemy Bracon hebetor.

Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head and Smt. D.

Aparna, Scientist (Hort.) HRS, Venkataramannagudem

conducted survey in Pandirimamidi, Maredumilli and

Addateegala in East Godavari district for collection of

medicinal plants, pest and disease recording on medici-

nal plants on 21.09.2017 and 22.09.2017. Collected two

medicinal plants viz., Kachooralu and aathukusaara.

Extension

Training Programmes

Three days training programme on “Millets Value addition - Biscuit

and Bakery products making” to 10 tribal women SHG group

members from Maredumilli was organized from 25.09.2017 to

27.09.2017. KVK has provided one biscuit making unit to take it up as

income generating activity and self employment. Sri.A.S.Dinesh

Kumar, PO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director

of Extension interacted with the trainees appreciated the activity.

Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta organized one day

training programme on “Coconut cultivation aspects” on 18.09.2017

to 45 farmers who are going to establish new coconut gardens with

the assistance of Department of Horticulture, East Godavari district

under the jurisdiction of ADH, Amalapuram.

Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.N.B.V.

Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated

as resource persons in one day training programme to 50 farmers

on “Coconut production and protection technologies” organized in

coordination with Farmers Producer Organization at Tadikalapudi

village of West Godavari district on 23.09.2017.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated in

a training on “Coconut cultivation” at Bondada village of West Godavari

district organized by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh under Smart village

programme on 26.09.2017 and delivered a lecture on production and

protection technologies for the benefit of farmers. Sri. D. Sivaramaraju, MLA,

Undi was the chief guest and advised the farmers to adopt latest production

technologies and mechanization for increasing yields and to reduce the

production cost.

Two days training programme on 26.09.2017 and 27.09.2017 was

conducted to the farmers of Visakhapatnam district at KVK,

Pandirimamidi. On 27.09.2017 Sri.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist, (Hort.)

from KVK, Pandirimamidi delivered a lecture on improved cultiva-

tion practices in cashew and explained the importance of cashew

grafts over seedlings. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK,

Pandirimamidi interacted with farmers on this occassion .

Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist, (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem

attended a training programme as resource person on “Organic

Farming” at Tadepalligudem on 29.09.2017 .

On 16.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited paddy fields for diagnosis of pest and disease

incidence at Mudireddypalli thanda village of Mydukur mandal and

observed the leaf folder incidence and bacterial leaf blight (BLB)

infection. Recommended spraying of chlorpyriphos @ 2.0 ml/l or

monocrotophos @ 1.6 ml/l for leaf folder and application of

streptomycin or plantomycin @1 gm/10 litre of water along with application of potash @ 15 kg/

acre and to stop the application of nitrogenous fertilizers for control of bacterial leaf blight.

On 25.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited tomato fields at Sunkulugaripalli village of

Mydukur mandal and observed early blight infection. Recommended

spraying of [email protected] g/l or chlorothalonil@2 g/l, 3 to 4 times

at 15 days interval.

On 26.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited papaya fields for diagnosis of pest and disease

incidence at T. Kothapalli village of Mydukur mandal and observed leaf

curl virus disease. Recommended spraying of dimethoate@2g/l or

fipronil@2 ml/l.

On 20.09.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and Sri P. Raja

Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited blackgram var.

LBG-752 fields under CFLD and provided carbendazim to the

beneficiaries of Devipatnam village and observed leaf spot and sug-

gested the farmers to spray carbendazim@1 g/l.

Dr. T. Rajasekharam, Scientist (Pl. Path.), CRS, Tirupati attended a

training programme to the Horticultural Officers and MPEOs as resource

person on “Identifying the pests and diseases in citrus and their

management” along with the Assistant Director of Horticulture at

Chilumur, Duggirala mandal, Guntur district on 25th and 26th September,

2017.

Diagnostic Visits

On 20.09.2017, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension,

Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head and Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist

(Ento.), KVK, V.R.Gudem visited On farm Testing trial on Assessment of

performance of sting less bees in protected cultivation of tomato in

Malasanikunta village, Dwaraka Tirumala mandal and also visited

capsicum field cultivated in nethouse condition and suggested suitable

remedial measures against pests and diseases in tomato and capsicum.

On 22.09.2017, Smt. Padmaja PD, ATMA, Kakinada visited cashew

nursery at KVK, Pandirimamidi. Sri K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist

(Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi explained about the activities carried out

in nursery, importance of grafts over seedlings, method of grafting and

also pests & diseases at nursery stage.

From 20.09.2017 Survey has been started by Ms. N.Srividya Rani,

Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi on “Training Need Assessment of

Farmers in Agriculture and Allied Activities”. The data collection

regarding the schedule has been completed in adopted villages of

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi, i.e. in Tamarapalli, Bandapalli

villages of Rampachodavaram mandal, D.V.Kota and Darwada villages

of Maredumilli mandal. ,

On 26.09.2017, Dr.G.Rajender Reddy, Senior. Scientist, ICAR-ATARI,

Hyderabad, Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension along with

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi visited bhendi fields at

Peddageddada village of Rampachodavaram mandal and interacted

with tribal farmers and observed fruit borer infestation and recom-

mended spraying of profenophos @2ml/l water.

Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. T. Rajasekharam,

Scientist (Pl. Path.), CRS, Tirupati visited Nellore District on

22.09.2017 and surveyed different mandals of acid lime and sweet

orange gardens to know the pest and disease status in these crops.

On 20.09.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and Sri P. Raja

Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited panama disease

infected banana orchard and suggested the farmer to go either for crop

rotation or use disease resistant banana varieties and do not use

suckers from infected plants as planting material. Also visited YVMV

infected bhendi field and recommended the farmer to remove and

destroy the infected plants followed by spraying of [email protected] ml/l to vector whitefly.

On 22.09.17, Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head and Sri K.C.Bhanu

Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited oil palm orchards

at Vemulakonda village of Rampachodavaram mandal under ATMA

demonstration (Intercropping of Cocoa in Oil palm orchards) and

distributed cocoa seedlings to grow as intercrop in oil palm orchard.

Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati visited Prakasam

district on 26.09.2017and surveyed different mandals of acid lime and

sweet orange gardens to know the pest status in these crops.

On 22.09.2017, Sri.G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.K.Venkata Sub-

baiah, Scientist (Horti) K.V.K, Venkataramannagudem visited Black gram

and green gram fields under Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on pulses

in Veerannagudem and Tirumalapuram villages and demonstrated

installation of yellow and blue sticky traps @ 20 per acre against white-

fly and thrips. Later distributed soil health cards to the farmers under CFLDs on pulses.

On 23.9.2017, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK,

Venkataramannagudem visited backyard poultry flock at Kollaihgudem,

Buttaihgudem mandal and diagnosed Salmonellosis infection to birds and

prescribed furazolidine @ 500 g/ton of feed for 5 days.

On 27.09.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataraman-

nagudem visited cotton fields under FLD on ICM in cotton in

Pandugudem and Bandarlagudem villages and observed infestation of

Helicoverpa and Spodoptera and suggested to spray spinosad @ 0.3 ml

and thiodicarb @ 1.5 g/l of water respectively.

Front Line Demonstration

On 16.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta

has provided tricyclozole@120 g/acre and chlorantraniliprole@60 ml/

acre to 10 farmers of Mudireddypalli thanda village of Mydukur mandal

under Front Line Demonstration “IPDM in paddy”.

On 16.09.2017, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirima-

midi provided marigold rooted cuttings to beneficiaries of Rayapalli

village of Addateegala mandal under OFT i.e. Introduction of Marigold

var. Arka Bangara in agency area.

On 22.09.2017, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort) and Sri.

G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited

vegetable fields viz. ridge gourd, ivy gourd, bitter gourd, bhendi,

brinjal and cucumber in Raavigudem, Mettugudem, Kaapavaram, Koy-

yarajamundry and Marlagudem and suggested to remove & destroy

virus infected plants. Later distributed parasitod, Bracon sps and also

explained about the importance of parasitoids in suppression of pests

under ICAR – TSP project entitled “Introduction of Improved vegetable cultivation in tribal areas”.

On 27.09.2017, Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento), KVK, V.R.Gudem

visited apiary units at Pandugudem, Bandarlagudem and Lankapalli

of Buttaigudem mandal under ICAR-TSP project entitled

“Introduction of Apiary in tribal villages for enhanced income and

economic security” and observed severe infestation of wax moth to

the colonies and suggested suitable management practices and man-

agement of honeybees during rainy season.

Field Day

On 26.09.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted a field day on

“Pollination support through Beekeeping”. Sri Dinesh Kumar PO-

ITDA, Ramachodavaram attended as chief guest. Dr.G.Rajendra

Reddy, ICAR –ATARI and Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension

explained the farmers about the role of bees in pollinating crops

followed by a technical session conducted by Ms. S.Adarsha,

Scientist (Ento.) on Importance of Beekeeping and bees role in

enhancing the yield. In this programme Dr.G.Narasimhamurthy, Scientist & Head, HRS, Pandirima-

midi, Sri.Padmakar, TATA-Trust and 86 farmers attended the programme.

General

Workshops and Trainings

Sri M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem

attended 21 days training programme on “Advances in quality seed

production of vegetables” from 06.09.2017 to 26.09.2017 at Centre of

Advanced Faculty Training in Horticulture (Vegetables), Dr.Y.S.Parmar

University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh.

Dr.P.Vijaya lakshmi, Principal, HPT, Nuzvid attended 21 days training

programme on "Current techniques and advances in mass culturing of

microbials for the production of Biopesticides" from 05.09.2017 to

25.09.2017 at NBAIIR, Bengaluru.

Dr. K. T. Venkataraman, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, CRS, Tirupati attended meeting for

scrutinizing the new variety release proposals received from various Research Stations for onward

submission of the same to the State Level Variety Release Committee on 20.09.2017 at Administra-

tive Office, Dr.YSRHU.

On 20.09.2017, Miss N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.) and Sri

K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited

paddy fields at bandapalli village of Rampachodavaram mandal.

Scientists initiated FLD-IPDM in Paddy with first spraying of Chlor-

antraniliprole 20% SC @ 0.3 ml/l and tricyclazole 70% WP @ 0.6

gms/l at tillering stage for the control of leaf folder, Stem borer and

leaf blast in paddy.

On 18.09.2017, Sri G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-

mannagudem visited red gram, black gram and green gram fields

under Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on pulses in Marrigudem

village and observed incidence of spodoptera litura and Maruca

testualis and suggested to spray neem soap@5 g/l and chlorpyrifos

@ 2.5 ml/lit.

Agriculture and Veterinary students (96 no.) of Sai Rakesh

Vocational Junior College, Koyyalagudem, West Godavari dist

visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 21.09.2017 and

22.09.2017. In this programme scientists of KVK explained about

different activities and shown the demonstration plots of various

horticulture, agriculture crops, cattle unit, sheep unit, goat unit,

poultry unit, vermicompost, azolla and fodder units of KVK in-

structional farm.

A total of 105 farmers from Visakhapatnam district visited HRS,

Ambajipeta on 21.09.2017 as part of exposure visit and were

briefed about the production and protection technologies of

coconut, cocoa and high density cropping systems by the scientists

concerned for getting sustained yields and income.

in Swachhta sarwathra programme held at Dr. YSR Horticultural Uni-

versity Campus along with Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension,

Dr. E. Karunasree and staff of KVK, Venkataramannagudem have par-

ticipated in the programme. Dr.G.Rajender Reddy has also reviewed

the TSP activities done by KVK, Venkataramannagudem and distributed inputs to the farmers.
