Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-chancellor inaugurated the first training at Venkataramannagudem. All the University Officers and Sri. S.V.Naidu, Deputy Conservator of Forests, West Godavari dist also attended the training programme. During the training programme lectures were delivered by scientists of HRS, VR.Gudem and Ayurvedic doctors on the importance and cul- tivation of various medicinal and aromatic plants. Farm- ers interacted with the in- dustry people and scientists during interactive session to know about marketing chan- nels and cultivation aspects. A booklet on ‘Cultivation of medicinal plants in Andhra Pradesh’ was released during the training programme at Venkataraman- nagudem which was distributed to the trainees.

PPV&FRA Awareness programme One day awareness programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Right Act -2001 (PPV & FRA-2001) was conducted on 30.03.2016 by KVK, Venkataramannagudem. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension presided over the inaugural session and Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor participated as Chief Guest. In this programme University Officers, farmers and representatives of NGOs’ attended the programme.

Kisan mela A Kisan mela was organised by Mango Research Station, Nuzvid on 19.03.2016. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension attended the pro-gramme as Chief Guest and inaugurated the programme. Dr. L. Naram Naidu, Zonal Research Head, Dr. Prasanna Kumar, Principal Scientist(Hort), Dr. R. Rajya Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort) and Scientists from other research stations also attended Kisan mela. Rythu sadassu with farmers and scientists interaction along with horticultural exhibition was organised on this occasion.

Education Educational tour First year students of SSPG.Polytechnic visited HC&RI, Anatharajupeta and Rayalaseema Horticultural Nursery at Railway Kodur on 21.03.2016, Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 22.03.2016 along with Sri.V.Ramana, Technical Officer (Hort) and Sri P.Parameshwar, TA(Hort). Second year students of S.S.P.G.Polytechnic, Madakasira vis-ited Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru on 28.03.2016 along with Dr.M.Ramakrishna, Principal and Sri P.Parameshwar, TA(Hort). First year students of S.K.P.P.College of Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram visited Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 29-03-2016 along with Sri. M.Sathi Raju, Vice-Principal. Dr. L. Mukun-dalakshmi, Scientist (Hort) & Smt. G. Sarada, Scientist (Ento) explained about on going research programmes including nursery production technology of citrus.

Guest lectures Dr V. Lakshmanan, Professor and Head, Department of Vegetable Crops, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu visited HC & RI, VR Gudem and delivered a guest lecture on Moringa to the students of Vegetable Science division on 15.03.2016. Research

Project Coordinator’s visit Dr.H.P. Maheswarappa, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Palms visited HRS, Ambajipeta on 22.03.2016. He monitored the trials under AICRP and gave suggestions to the scientists for im-provement of research programmes. On 23.03.16 Project Coordinator and scientists of HRS Amba-jipeta visited a field at Pattigondi, East Godavari district where an interaction meeting with farmers

was organized on coconut pest and disease management. He also monitored on farm trials of AICRP on Palms at Bendamurilanka, P. Gannavaram and Munganda, East Godavari district where trials on screening of pheromone lures against black headed caterpillar, bio control based management of basal stem rot disease and model field of high density multispecies cropping system were going on. He also vis-ited recovered coconut garden at Tallarevu village from black headed caterpillar after the continu-ous release of parasitoids. It was observed that Dendrobium cv. Earsakul and cv. DA-138 which took 42 and 45 days for flower bud initiation and 61 and 64 days for complete flowering, with 6 florets per spike under the project “Collection, maintenance and evaluation of Dendrobium germplasm lines” initiated by Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), HC&RI, Anantharajupeta.

Exposure visits Farmers from Odisha along with Assistant Horticultural Officers of Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Odisha visited tissue culture lab and experimental fields of banana and tuber crops at Horticultural Research Research Station, Kovvur on 28.03.2016. Smt.K.Mamatha, Scientist (Hort) explained about improved cultivation practices in banana and tuber crops. Farmers from SPSR Nellore district along with Department of Horticul-ture officials visited HRS, Anantharajupeta on 19-03-2016 and 29-03-2016 . Mr. D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort) explained the production practices of papaya, banana and turmeric. Farmers got exposed to new technologies and new crops being grown at the research station.

Training programmes A six day vocational training programme was organized by KVK, Venkataramannagudem from 16.03.2016 to 21.03.2016 under 'Friends of coconut tree'. In addition to the use of coconut climber, the participants were trained on plant protection and crop manage-ment aspects. The participants were insured before the commence-ment of the training and the climbing devices were provided free of cost to the successful participants. Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension distributed certificates to the participants.

A six days training programme on harvesting of coconuts using climbing machines and scientific management practices and plant protection as-pects under Friends of coconut tree (FOCT) programme for two batches from 14.03.2016 to 19.03.2016 (13th batch) and 21.03.2016 to 26.03.2016 (14th batch) at Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta. Dr.L.Naram Naidu, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam attended training programme to farmers and traders on “Market Linkage for chilli” organized by Deparment of Horticulture and Spices Board, Guntur on 20.03.2016 and delivered a lecture on Integrated Crop Management in chilli. Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Pathology) & Head, HRS, Mahanadi attended farmers’ training programme on “Cultivation of Pomegranate” at RHTI, Ananthapur on 22.03.2016 and 23.03.2016, “Cultivation of dry land fruit crops” at HRS, Ananthapur on 24.03.2016 and “Papaya Cultivation” at RHTI, Ananthapur on 25.03.2016 and 26.03.2016 as resource person. Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Pathology), HRS, V.R.Gudem organised to training programmes on “Betelvine Cultivation” at Vanukuru, Krishna district and Kothuru, Visakhapatnam district on 16th and 17th March, 2016. Mrs P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento) has explained about management of pests on Betelvine to farmers. Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl.Pathology) & Head, Sri M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (H) and Mr. N. Chaitanya, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS, Mahanandi organized a farmers training programme on “Cultivation of Turmeric, Coriander and Ajowan” under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) on 30.03.2016. Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Pathology), HRS, V.R.Gudem participated in the training programme “Friends of Coconut Trees” on 21.03.2016 conducted by KVK, V.R.Gudem as resource person and delivered lecture on coconut diseases and their management. Smt. G. Sarada, Scientist (Ento), CRS, Tirupati has attended a training programme on ‘Pest manage-ment techniques in tomato’ as resource person at Chittoor organized by Dept. of Horticulture on 28.03.2016. Dr. L. Mukundalakshmi, Scientist (Hort) and Smt G. Sarada, Scientist (Ento), CRS, Tirupati have at-tended ‘Kisan Mela’ on 16.03.2016 at RARS, Tirupati and suggested suitable remedial measures to various problems faced by the farmers in different Horticultural crops. Dr. T. Rajasekharam, Scientist (Pl.Pathology), CRS, Tirupati attended a training programme on ‘Postharvest disease management in mango’ at Chittoor on 18.03.2016 and on ‘Postharvest disease management techniques in tomato’ on 29.03.2016 as resource person at Chittoor conducted by Dept. of Horticulture.

Seminars HRS, Ambajipeta conducted one day district level seminar on “Cocoa” sponsored by DCCD, Kochi at Srikakulam on 28.03.2016 in collaboration with Department of Horticulture. During the seminar the scientists explained the production and protection technologies of cocoa to the farmers.

Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting was conducted on 24.03.2016 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem. Work done report for Kharif and Rabi, 2015-16 was presented and finalized the action plan for Kharif and Rabi, 2016 -17. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension presided over the session and Dr.J.V.Prasad, Principal Scientist, ATARI, Hyderabad participated as Chief Guest. Dr.BVK Bhagawan, Zonal Research Head, Coastal Zone-I, Dr.M.V.Prasad, Principal Scientist, IIOPR, Pedavegi, Dr.A.Sujatha, Associate Dean, HC & RI, Venkataramannagudem, Dr.M.Rajasekhar, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem, Dr.K.Ananda Rao, Senior Scientist & Head, BRS,Venkataramannaugdem, Dr.K.Anandkumar, PHO, ITDA,K.R.Puram, line department officers, progressive farmers along with representatives of NGOs’ attended the meeting and extended their suggestions.

Field diagnostic visits Dr.K. Rajendra Prasad, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Pandirimamidi conducted a diagnostic visit to cashew orchards along with Sri A.Devadanam, Horticultural Officer at Pallantla and Gopalapuram on 19.03.2016 and observed tea mosquito bug damage and suitable control measures were suggested to the farmers. Dr.L.Naram Naidu, Principal Scientist (Hort) attended diagnostic field visit at Marturu and sur-rounding villages of Prakasam district on 27.03.2016. Poultry birds distribution Six week old Vanaraja and Gramapriya birds were distributed to tribal women of K.R.Puram on 24.03.2016 by Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr.J.V.Prasad, Principal Scientist, ATARI, Hyderabad un-der Tribal Sub plan. Dr.B.V.K. Bhagawan, Zonal Research Head, Coastal Zone-I, Dr.K.Anand Kumar, PHO, ITDA, K.R.Puram and farmers partici-pated in this programme. Site Selection Committee New-KVK The Site Selection Committee for New KVK in Nellore dist consisting of Chairman Sri S.N.Puri, Director Dr. Y.G.Prasad, Z.P.D, Bhosle visited HRS, Petlur on 16.03.16. Dr. B.M.C.Reddy, Vice chan-cellor, Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy Director of Extension explained about the need of KVK in that area and also preented the significant activities of KVKs functioning under Dr.YSRHU.

Meetings attended Dr. E. Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Venkataramannagudem and Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi participated in one day awareness cum training programme on PPV and FRA Act-2001 on 28.03.2016 organized by ICAR-ATARI, Zone-V, Hyderabad in associa-tion with Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Authority, New Delhi. National consultation meeting Dr. L. Mukundalakshmi, Scientist (Hort), CRS, Tirupati attended National consultation on ‘Science and Technology for development of Indigenous India’ organized by Indian Science Congress Association, Tirupati Chapter and displayed fruit samples of citrus germplasm ac-cessions in the exhibition at VEMU Engineering College, Chittoor on 25.03.2016.

Human Resource Development Dr. M. Ramaiah, Asst. Professor (Ento.), HC&RI, Anantharajupeta attended a 21 days training at Na-tional Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM), Hyderabad on “Integrated vertebrate pest management” from 1st to 21st March, 2016.

Rythu Sadassu Dr. K T. Venkataramana, Principal Scientist (Hort) & Zonal Research Head and Smt. G. Sarada, Scientist (Ento), CRS, Tirupati along with Dr. K. Gopal, Associate Dean, HCRI, Anantarajupeta and Dr. B. Sreeni-vasulu, Sr. Scientist (Hort) & Head, HRS, Anantapur have attended Rythu Sadassu at Pulivendula organized by Department of Horticul-ture and educated the farmers with improved practices in Pomegran-ate, Citrus production and protection techniques on 19.03.2016. NSS Special Camps Students of S.K.P.P.Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram conducted Socio-Economic survey in Oduru village as a part of NSS Special camp which was inaugurated on 18.03.2016. A NSS special camp was organized by NSS unit of HC&RI Anantharaju-peta, at Govt. Polytechnic, Punnativaripalli and Kammapalli Obulavari-palli mandal on 30.03.2016. Special NSS camp was inaugurated on 29.03.2016 by Sri. Lokesh, Sarpanch at R.Anathapuramu, Madakasira mandal in which NSS volunteers participated in Swachbharat and several service activities were taken up.

Dr. D. Srihari, Dean of Student Affairs & NSS Programme Coordinator, inau-gurated the NSS Special Camp (26.03.2016 to 01.04.2016) at Kunavaram and Chinatadepalli villages. Dr. K. Umajyothi, Professor (Hort.), Associate Dean i/c, NSS Programme Officers Dr. D. V. Swamy, Associate Professor (Hort.) Dr. D. Sudha Vani, Assistant Professor (Hort.), and final year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students participated in the inaugural function on 26.03.2016. Blood Donation Camp Blood donation camp was conducted under NSS Scheme of HC&RI VR Gudem on 17.03.2016 in association with Eluru Gov-ernment Hospital. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. D. Srihari, Dean of Student Affairs, NSS Programme Officer & Controller of Examinations, Dr. MLN. Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. A. Su-jatha, Associate Dean , Dr. P. Subbaramamma, Assistant Profes-sor & Officer-in-charge of Student Affairs, Dr. D .V. Swamy, Asso-ciate Professor (Hort.) and Dr. V. Sudha Vani, Assistant Professor (Hort.) and NSS programme Coordinators and other staff members attended the inauguration of blood donation camp. Around 40 students donated the blood. Publications M. Pathology) & Head, HRS, Mahanadi attended Phone in live programme on “Cultivation of Horticultural crops in Ananthapur district conducted by All India Radio, Ananthapur on 21-03-16.

Radio talks Smt.E.Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended recording on “Kobbarilo Anthara pantaga Cocoa” at All India Radio, Visakhapatnam on 17.03.2016. Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Pathology), HRS, V.R.Gudem attended recording on “Vesavilo tamala-paku thotalalo teesukovalasina jagrathalu” broadcasted by AIR, Vijayawada on 19.3.2016. Dr T. Suseela, Assistant Professor (Hort.), Horticultural College and Ressearch Institute, Venkatara-mannagudem attended recording on “Malle parimalala kosam theesukovalasina jagrathalu” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on 15.03.2016.
