Events Workshop

On 17.08.2019, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University in

collaboration with National Academy of Agriculture Research

Management (NAARM) organised one day work shop on

“Horticulture R&D infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh” at KVK,

Venkataramannagudem. Dr. S. Ravichandran welcomed to all

delegates to this event, Dr. K. Kareemulla, Principal Scientist

explained about NAARM activities and also briefed about the

project “Horticulture R and D infrastructure in Andhra

Pradesh and Telangana” as well as objectives of the project which was sanctioned by DST

(Department of Science and Technology). Later Dr.A.Padmaraju stressed on promotion of organic

production, different storage structures, importance of Farmer Producing companies for horticulture

commodities, introduction of new crops and man power. Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Industrial &

International Programmes, Dr.YSRHU briefed about different research activities as well as lab

facilities in the university. Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Director of Research, Dr.YSRHU stressed on problem

solving research and also advanced research need to be conducted with the help of DST and DBT and

see the sustainability of the particular projects and labs also. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension,

Dr.YSRHU explained about different activities of the KVK and also briefed about projects which are

going on in the existing KVKs. Officers of Department of Horticulture and Agriculture, scientists of

KVK and HRS, Venkataramannagudem also participated. Brain storming session on three aspects viz.,

1. Inputs for Horticulture development, 2. Marketing of Horticulture produce, 3. Value addition of

horticulture produce was conducted and all the participants actively involved and given their

valuable suggestions for Horticulture R & D infrastructure development in the Andhra Pradesh.

Kisan Mela

KVK, Vonipenta organised one day Kisan Mela on “Jal

Shakthi Abhiyan- a water conservation campaign” at

Pulivendula on 22.08.2019 covering 4 JSA blocks

(Lingala, Vemula, Vempalli and Simhadripuram). Sri S.

Suresh Kumar, IAS, Central Nodal Officer and Prabhari

Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan participated as chief guest

and Sri. C. Hari Kiran, IAS, Dist. Collector & Magistrate

participated as guest of honour. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy,

Director of Research presided over the programme. Sri. D. Madhusudana Reddy, PD, APMIP and

DDH, Dr. J. Murali Krishna, JDA, Sri Muralidhar, DD, Ground Water Department, Dr. P. Yadu

Bhushana Reddy, Project Director, DWMA, Dr VL Satya Prakash, PD, ATMA, Sri Chandra Sekhar

Reddy, DD Fisheries, Sri Raja Sekhar Reddy, AD Sericulture, Sri. M. Venkateswara Reddy, ADH have

participated. Scientists from KVK, Utukur, ARS, Utukur of ANGRAU participated and delivered mes-

sages on importance of water conservation and different technologies for rain water harvesting at

home and farmer’s fields. KVK, Vonipenta along with other line department officials arranged an

exhibition with 19 stalls on water saving technologies. Rally was conducted with St. Ann’s High

School and Govt. High School (Main), Pulivendula on importance of water conservation. On this oc-

casion, one booklet on “Effective water management in different crops” and one pamphlet on “Rain

water harvesting technologies” were released and prizes were distributed to the school children

for participating in Rally with reference to water conservation technologies for future generations

by the chief guest.

Education

A.P Educational Tour

A.P Educational tour was organized to 2nd year B.Sc (Hons.)

Horticulture (37 nos.) students of CoH, Parvathipuram from

15.08.2019 to 22.08.2019. Students visited Araku Valley, HRS,

Chintapalli, KVK, HRS, Pandirimamidi, HRS, Kovvur, KVK,

Venkataramannagudem, CEPC, College of Agriculture Engi-

neering, Bapatla, HRS, Bapatla, College of Horticulture, Ana-

tharajupeta and CRS, Tirupathi. Dr. A. Himabindu, Assistant

Professor (Hort.) and Mr. R. P. Chaitanya, Assistant Professor (Hort.) coordinated the programme.

A.P Educational tour was organized to 2nd year B.Sc

(Hons.) Horticulture (68 nos.) students of CoH, Venkata-

ramannagudem from 22.08.2019 to 28.08.2019. Stu-

dents visited HRS, Oil Distillation Unit and Coffee Proc-

essing unit at Chintapalli, Nurseries at Bobbepalli, CoH,

Anantharajupeta, Horticulture Research Stations at

Mahanandi, Ananthapuramu, Anantharajupeta, Tiru-

pathi, Bapatla and Guntur. Dr.C.P.Viji, Assistant Professor and Sri B.Chennakesavulu, Assistant Pro-

fessor coordinated the programme.

As a part of course curriculum, Educational tour to various Re-

search Stations, ICAR institutes in Andhra Pradesh was conducted

for 2nd year B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture students (77nos.) of CoH,

Parvathipuram from 22.08.2019 to 28.08.2019. Students were ex-

posed to various research programmes and activities conducted at

the institutes and students got enriched their practical knowledge

with explanation by the Scientists of the research stations. Dr. M. Siva Prasad Associate Professor,

Dr. V. V. Padmaja Assistant Professor and Dr. Y. Yohan, Teaching Associate coordinate the pro-

gramme.

PG Programme

Ph.D. programmes were started in the Department of Floriculture & Landscape Architecture and

Dept. of Entomology at CoH, Venkataramannagudem and PSMA & Dept. of Plant Pathology at CoH,

Anantharajupeta from the academic year 2019-2020.

RHWEP Activities

On 21.08.2019, a vocational training program was conducted to 13

RHWEP students allotted to KVK, Pandirimamidi on ‘Rubber produc-

tion, Tapping and Processing’ at Pujaripakalu village of Maredumilli

mandal. Sri. Salman Raju, Junior Farm Officer, Central Rubber Board

explained about production, tapping and processing aspects. Sri.

K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) coordinated the program.

From 28.08.19 to 29.08.19, vocational training program was con-

ducted to 13 RHWEP students allotted to KVK, Pandirimamidi on

‘Cashew Nut Processing’ at KVK, Pandirimamidi. Sri.

K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) coordinated the program and ex-

plained the process of boiling , shelling, drying, peeling, grading and

packing.

Fit India Movement

Live telecast by Sri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of In-

dia on ‘Fit India Movement’ was arranged by CoH, Parvathipuram

on 29.08.2019 on the eve of National Sports Day. Dr. B. Prasanna

Kumar, Associate Dean explained about the importance of fitness

for the maintenance of healthy life style to the staff and students

of College of Horticulture, Parvathipuram.

KVK, Periyavaram in collaboration with SERP conducted training

programmes on ‘Production Technology of Acid lime’ at Kalu-

vaya mandal and Rapuru village of Nellore dist on 21.08.2019

and 24.08.2019 respectively. Dr.M.Kavita, Officer in-charge and

Ms.S.M.Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram co-

ordinated the training programmes.

A two days mandal level SERP-Dr.YSRHU (AGRIP) training pro-

gramme was conducted at Rapuru Village of Nellore dist. from

26th to 27th Aug, 2019 for farm women on ‘Millets value addition

and its nutritional importance’. The programme was coordi-

nated by Dr.M.Kavitha, Officer In-charge, KVK, Periyavaram and

Mrs.K.Aruna, Research Associate, Home Science, KVK, Nellore

attended as Resource Person. The programme was also at-

tended by Sri M.Krishnaiah, APM-Velugu, Rapur.

Four mandal level training programmes on “Rejuvenation, IPM &

INM practices in Mango” were organized by MRS, Nuzvid in col-

laboration with SERP at Mallavalli, Veeravaram and Chatrai man-

dals on 20.08.2019, 21.08.2019, 22.08.2019 and 26.08.2019 re-

spectively. Dr. R. Rajyalakshmi, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr.

B.K.M. Lakshmi, Sr.Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. G. Sravanthi, Scien-

tist (Ento.), MRS, Nuzvid coordinated the programmes as well

explained the farmers as resource persons.

Two district level training programmes on “Mango and Chilli” were

organized by MRS, Nuzvid, Dr.YSRHU in collaboration with SERP at

Ongole and Vijayawada on 17.08.2019 and 29.08.2019 respec-

tively. Dr. M. Mutyalanaidu, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS,

Darsi, Dr. R. Rajyalakshmi, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr. B.K.M.

Lakshmi, Sr.Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. G. Sravanthi, Scientist

(Ento.), MRS, Nuzvid coordinated the programmes.

Extension

Dr.YSRHU – SERP FPOs Trainings under MoU

Four FPO level training programmes on “Good Agricultural Practices in Turmeric under tribal area

of Visakhapatnam” were organized by HRS, Chintapalli in collaboration with Society for Elimination

of Rural Poverty (SERP) at Gudem Kotta Veedhi, G. Madugula, Chintapalli and Paderu mandals on

27.08.2019, 29.08.2019, 30.08.2019 and 31.08.2019 respectively. About 40 farmers per training

programme have attended. Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist, HRS, Chintapalli coordinated the

programme.

Front Line Demonstrations

Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension.) and Dr.T.Vijaya Nir-

mala, Scientist (veterinary science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem

has visited paddy variety MTU 1156 (Tarangini) field as part of FLD

on 21.08.2019 which was 39 days old crop in Dibbagudem village of

Jeelugumilli mandal. Observed zinc deficiency in the field and rec-

ommended the farmers to spray zinc sulphate @ 2g/l as foliar spray

on 21.08.2019.

KVK, Venkataramannagudem initiated cluster frontline demonstra-

tion on blackgram TBG 104 variety’ in Narayanapuram village of

Dwaraka Tirumala mandal on 30.08.2019. Dr.V.Deepthi, scientist

(Agricultural Extension) explained thepackage of practices and

pest and disease management aspects in blackgram. Later seed

treatment method demonstration was conducted and seed was distributed to the farmers and also

collected soil samples from identified fields.

Method Demonstration

Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), KVK, Venkatara-

mannagudem conducted method demonstration on ‘Installation of

pheromone traps & yellow, blue sticky traps in black gram field’

as part of OFT at Takkalapadu village of Dwaraka Tirumala man-

dal on 30.08.2019 and also explained the role of pheromone traps,

yellow, blue sticky traps for controlling the sucking pest.

On 27.08.2019 G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head and Dr.

V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta con-

ducted method demonstration on fortification of Trichoderma

viride in FYM. Scientists explained about the method, uses and pre-

cautions to be taken while application of the final product in the

field.

On 19.08.2019 and 29.08.2019, P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC),

KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted method demonstration on ‘Waste

decomposer technology’ to the farmers of Pedageddada village of

Ramapachodavaram mandal and Gandikota village of Devipatnam

mandal respectively. Explained about preparation of mother culture

using water @200 l, jaggery @2 kg and culture of waste decomposer

strain and also explained the method of culture multiplication for further use and its application for

quick in-situ and off-site decomposition of crop residue.

On Farm Trial

Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited ragi field as

part of the OFT on 30.08.19 which is at 60 days old in Dhumanthulagudem village of Devarapalli

mandal. Observed leaf blast in the field and recommended the farmers to spray carbendizam @ 1g/

l as foliar spray and also suggested not to use excessive dose of nitrogen fertilizers. Also distributed

the micro nutrient for ragi field.

On 21.08.2019, Dr.T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science)

and Dr.V Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension) KVK Venkata-

ramannagudem initiated On Farm Trial on “Supplementation of

Area Specific Mineral Mixture (ASMM) to milch animals” for the

year 2019-20 and created awareness on importance of mineral

mixture on production performance of animals and distributed

ASMM to dairy farmers of Kamaiahkunta and Antharvedigudem

villages of Buttaihgudem mandal. Also demonstrated about use of Urea Molasses Mineral Block

supplementation to the dairy animals among dairy farmers of West Rekulakunta village.

On 24.08.2019, KVK, Vonipenta has provided turmeric seedlings of

Mydukur local to beneficiary farmers at Mudireddypalli Thanda and

Adireddy palli villages of Mydukur mandal under OFT. Dr.V.

Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.) explained about the impor-

tance of raising turmeric seedlings through single node cuttings to

reduce seed rate and how to transplant turmeric seedlings in the

main field.

On 16.08.2019, KVK, Periyavaram installed a “Low cost egg-incubator” at

farmer’s place as part of On-Farm Trial. The incubator has a capacity of 60

eggs and requires manual rotation of eggs. Dr. P.Manjari, Scientist

(Veterinary Science) coordinated the programme.

On 21.08.2019, KVK, Pandirimamidi provided brinjal var. Arka Har-

shita seedlings to beneficiaries of Folkspeta village of Rampachoda-

varam mandal under OFT i.e. introduction of brinjal var. Arka Har-

shita in agency area. Dr.D.Manohara Prasad, Principal Scientist &

Head coordinated the programme.

Training Programmes

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Assoicate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharaju-peta attended a training program as resource person to the input

dealers on “Management aspects in mango, papaya and guava during late kharif and rabi season” at KVK, Kalikiri on 25.08.2019

under DAESI program.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Assoicate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharaju-

peta attended a training program as a resource person to the

farmers on “Chrysanthemum, Marigold and Crosandra produc-

tion technology under low cost shade net house” at RHTI, Kadapa

on 28.08.2019 organized by Department of Horticulture.

Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended as resource person for training pro-

grammes on "Pest and Disease management in Lime and Sweet orange" and “Pest and Disease

Management in Vegetable crops” at RHTI, Kadapa and RHTI, Tirupati on 21.08.2019 and

25.08.2019 respectively.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Principal Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta

participated in training programme on ‘Production and protection

technologies in coconut’ organized by Department of Horticulture at

Rapaka, Gopalapatnam and Srungavruksham villages of Tuni mandal

and explained about integrated pest and disease management in co-

conut on 17.08.2019.

Dr. M.G.Bala Hussaini, Senior scientist (Hort.), CRS, Petlur at-

tended farmers training programme as resource person organ-

ized by ATMA, Venkatagiri block at Jayampu (V), Balayapalli (M)

on 30.08.2019 and briefed the farmers on “Production and pro-

tection technologies in acid lime and Vegetables” followed by a

field visit.

Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) attended one day orientation cum training program on

“Model Organic farming” on 21.08.2019 at ATARI, Zone-X, Hyderabad. The program includes rules

and regulations of PKVY like PGS certification, role of regional council etc and also arranged one

guest lecture by Dr. Ramanjaneyulu, Executive director of Center for Sustainable on “Organic culti-

vation of Agriculture and Horticulture crops and their marketing. This session was chaired by Dr.

Y.G. Prasad, Director, ATARI, Sri. Venugopal Reddy, Chairman of Ekalavya Foundation attended as

chief guest.

Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Ananta-

puramu attended farmers training programme as resource per-

son on ‘Commercial Flower Cultivation’ at RHTI, Anantapuramu

organized by Department of Horticulture, Anantapuramu on

21.08.2019.

KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted training programme on

‘Integrated crop management in green gram in the Kamayya-

kunta village of Buttaigudem mandal on 21.08.2019.

Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension) explained the

package of practices and pest and disease management aspects

in green gram. Seed treatment method demonstration was con-

ducted. Green gram seed var.WGG-42 was distributed to the

farmers under tribal sub plan. Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science) also participated.

Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK,

Venkataramannagudem as a resource person for theory cum prac-

tical on ‘Importance of biosecurity in fish hatchery unit, day to day

activities in fish farms and aqualabs, Importance of Effluent Treat-

ment Plant in fish hatchery, Use of anesthetics and antibiotics in

fish hatchery, safety, hygiene and sanitation practices in fish hatch-

ery’ under NFDB sponsored Skill Development Programme (SDP)

on “Hatchery Production Worker” at Fisheries Research Station, PVNRTU, Palair from 30th to 31st

August, 2019.

KVK, Periyavaram coordinated a training programme on

‘Rejuvenation of old acid lime orchards’ at Mopuru Ellampalli

Village of Dakkili Mandal on 24.08.2019 to the practicing farmers.

Explained about year round good cultivational practices to be car-

ried out for economic yields in acid lime. Farmers were encour-

aged for intercropping in pruned orchards for additional income.

Also method demonstration was carried out on preparation of Bordeaux mixture and Bordeaux

paste in old acid lime orchards. Sri Anand, HO-Venkatagiri also participated and addressed the

farmers regarding various schemes of Dept. of Horticulture. Dr.M.Kavita, Officer in-charge and

Ms.S.M.Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.) coordinated the programme.

Diagnostic Visits

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), Ch. S Kishore Kumar Scien-

tist, (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur along with Dr.S. Ram Mohan, PD, AP-

MIP, Sri, Mallikarjun, AD, Horticulture, E.G.Dt., Sri. Amarnath, HO,

Kothapeta inspected the inundated fields of banana, coconut, cocoa,

Papaya and vegetable crops in East Godavari district on 16.8.2019

and suggested necessary ameliorative measures for recovery of the

plants.

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani,

Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur conducted diagnostic survey on

19.08.2019 in Vemagiri village of East Godavari District in chrysan-

themum being cultivating in protected conditions. Heavy incidence

of Phoma flower blight and Alternaria leaf blight diseases was found

and suggested management practices for the crop.

Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr. K

Mamatha, Senior Scientist (Hort.) ,Dr R.Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Hort.)

and Sri Ch.S.Kishore Kumar Scientist (Pl Path.), HRS, Kovvur visited

banana and elephant foot yam fields on 29.08.2019 and observed rhi-

zome rot and leaf spot diseases in banana and leaf blight in elephant

foot yam and suggested remedial measures.

On.08.On 30.08.2019, Dr.T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),

KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended to medical case of poultry

bird showing symptoms of body weight loss, hair loss, diarrhoea, re-

cumbency condition, mortality, drooling of saliva and suggested

liquid for 5 days.

On 21.08.2019, Dr.T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science)

and Dr. V Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension) KVK, Venkatara-

mannagudem visited Aseel poultry birds distributed under Attracting

and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) project at Pandugudem

and Antharvedi gudem villages and observed the health condition and

growth of Aseel birds.

Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), KVK, Venkatara-

mannagudem has visited cotton fields as part of the on farm trial

(OFT) on 21.08.2019 which were at 40 days old in Dibbagudem vil-

lage of Jeelugumilli mandal. Observed magnesium deficiency and

recommended to spray magnesium sulphate @ 10g/l at 45 and 75

days after sowing.

D. Rakshith Roshan, Research Associate (Ento.) and K. Chakkani Priya, Research Associate (Ento.),

HRS, Ambajipeta carried out fixed plot survey at Samanthakurru and Kommaragiripatnam villages

of East Godavari district and collected data on opisina arenosella on 16.08.2019.

On 20.08.2019, Sri P Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC), KVK, Pandirima-

midi visited banana fields at Pedageddada village of Rampachodava-

ram mandal. Observed potassium deficiency in crop are cultivated un-

der red sandy soil without proper manuring. Also observed more

number of suckers per plant with sigatoka disease incidence. Recom-

mended the farmer to apply organic manure followed by soil applica-

tion of MoP @ 250 g/ plant in four splits or foliar spray of potassium nitrate or sulphate of potash

@ 5 g/l and also desuckering at regular intervals.

On 20.08.2019, Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC), KVK, Pandiri-

mamidi visited old cashew orchards at Pedabeerampalli village of

Rampachodavaram mandal under Integrated Crop Management in

Cashew. Explained about seasonal crop management practices es-

pecially pruning and manuring to be followed in rejuvenation of

old cashew orchards followed by method demonstration on prepa-

ration of Bordeaux paste and mixture, its application on cut surface of pruned twigs, basin prepara-

tion and method of fertilizer application in cashew. Observed trees affected with cashew shoot &

root borer and monitored the removal of infected bark followed by application of Bordeaux paste

to the tree trunk.

On 19.08.2019, Sri Bhanumurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandiri-

mamidi visited ridge gourd – F1 Hybrid at Rajampalem village of Gan-

gavaram mandal. The crop is at flowering stage and suggested the

farmer to go for application of borax @ 3g/l for induction of more fe-

male flowers, micronutrient mixture @ 5g/l to get higher yields.

On 29.08.2019, Dr.V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited banana fields for diagnosis of pest, disease inci-

dence and nutrient deficiency at Mudireddypalli Thanda village of

Mydukur mandal. Explained about bunch management techniques,

fertilizer management to be followed after bunch emergence. Also

observed Potassium deficiency in banana and recommended to

spray Potassium nitrate or sulphate of potash @ 0.5%.

On 27.08.19,Dr.V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.) and

Sri E Ravi Goud, Research Associate (Extension), KVK,

Vonipenta visited turmeric fields for diagnosis of pests and dis-

eases and nutrient deficiency at Adireddypalli village of Mydu-

kur mandal. Indentified the iron deficiency in turmeric field

and suggested to spray ferrous sulphate @ 5 g/l to rectify the

deficiency.

On 29.08.2019, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate, (Soil Sci-

ence) and E. Ravi Goud, Research Associate (Agri. Extension), KVK,

Vonipenta visited tomato fields at Somireddypalli village of B. Mat-

tam mandal. Identified wilt in tomato and suggested soil drench-

ing with Copper oxy chloride @ 0.3% to the diseased and sur-

rounding plants to control spread of disease.

On 19.08.2019, Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC), KVK, Pandiri-

mamidi visited brinjal nursery at Pedageddada village of Rampacho-

davaram mandal. Scientist collected composite soil samples in main

field prior to transplanting of brinjal seedlings and observed leaf

miner in nursery and suggested spraying of neem oil @ 5 ml/l.

Visits

On 27.08.2019, Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Director of Extension visited KVK,

Pandirimamidi and interacted with technical staff. Dr.D.Manohara

Prasad, Principal scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi and scien-

tists explained about the on-going activities of KVK and also visited

Demo units i.e. Cashew nursery, Mini cashew processing unit, Ver-

micompost and Waste decomposer unit etc.

Final year B.Sc students from Besant Theosophical College, Ma-

danapalle visited CoH & HRS, Anantharajupeta on 26.08.2019 on an

exposure visit. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Assoicate Professor (Hort.), CoH,

Anantharajupeta associated explained about ornamental plants,

protected structures and commercial nursery existing in the col-

lege campus.

Second year B.Sc. (Horticulture) students from Sri Krishnadevaraya

College of Horticultural Sciences, Anantapur visited HRS, Venkatara-

mannagudem and HRS, Kovvur on 27.08.2019 and 28.08.2019 respec-

tively as a part of AP educational tour. Dr.Ch.Kishore Kumar, Scientist

(Pl. Path.) and Dr.A.Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.) interacted

with the students and explained about cultural and protection aspects

of banana and tuber crops.

District visited PHTRS on 22.08.2019. Dr. B. Babu Rao, Research As-

sociate explained about the functioning of fruit sorting and grading

machinery, ripening chamber, cold storage chamber and pre – cool-

ing chamber at integrated pack house unit and value added products

prepared at fruit and vegetable processing unit.

Sri G. Subhash Chadra, Assistant Manager, HCL Technologies Limited,

Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh visited PHTRS on 20.08.2019. Dr. B.

Babu Rao, Research Associate explained about the functioning of ma-

chinery at fruit and vegetable processing unit.

Dr.K.T.Venkata Ramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Zonal Head, CRS, Tirupati attended Training

cum Interface Meeting on Project Appraisal and Research Data Management of ICAR-AICRP on

Fruits -2019 at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru from 19th to 21st August, 2019.

Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. G. Shali Raju, Sci-

entist (Ento.) attended one day work shop on “Mechanization for

harvesting of oil palm bunches” at IIOPR, Pedavegi on 29.08.2019.

Discussed about the efforts made by the stakeholders like oil palm

growers, oil palm processors, IIOPR and other agencies and to ex-

plore the possibilities for developing an ideal mechanised tool for

harvesting of oil palm bunches. Also attended a demo on function-

ing of harvesting machinery.

Dr.T. Naga lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Anantharajupeta

participated in “Training cum Interface Meeting on Project Ap-

praisal and Research Data Management of ICAR-AICRP on

Fruits” from 19th to 21st August 2019 at IIHR, Bengaluru.

Parthenium Awareness Week

‘Parthenium Awareness Week’ was observed from 16.08.2019 to

22.08.2019 at all adopted villages of KVKs of Dr.YSRHU. Scientists

conducted rallies and participated in removal of parthenium plants

in the premises of schools with students and created awareness

among the local people about the harmful effects of Parthenium.

RHWEP students allotted to respective KVKs have also participated.
