Events
13th UG & PG Board of Faculty Meetings
13th Board of Faculty of UG Studies meeting was conducted
on 15.12.2017 at International Guest House, Dr.YSRHU,
Venkataramannagudem under the chairmanship of
Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture. All the
university officers, Dr.Indiresh K.M., Registrar, UHS,
Bagalkot, Karnataka, Associate Deans of Colleges and other
members of UG Faculty studies have attended the meeting
and gave their valuable inputs.
13th Board of Faculty of PG Studies meeting was conducted
on 15.12.2017 at International Guest House, Dr.YSRHU,
Venkataramannagudem under the chairmanship of
Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dean
of PG Studies (FAC) and All the university officers,
Dr.K.Umesha, Dean, College of Horticulture, UHS Campus,
Bengaluru, Dr.M.Jawahar Lal, Dean Incharge, CoH,
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Associate Deans of Colleges and other members of PG Faculty studies have
attended the meeting and gave their valuable inputs.

World Soil Day
At Venkataramannagudem
“World Soil day” was conducted on 05.12.2017 by KVK,
Venkataramannagudem. Dr.M.L.N Reddy, Dean of Horticulture
presided over the inaugural session and messages in relation to
World soil health day was given by Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of
Examination, Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and soil
health pledge was administered to all the participants.
Scientists of KVK and HRS, Venkataramannagudem and departmental officials and about 350
farmers from Buttaiahgudem, Nallajerla, Tadepalligudem, Jeelugumilli and I.Polvaram mandals of
West Godavari district have participated. Soil health cards prepared by analyzing soil samples for
N,P,K, EC, Zn, Ca, Mg and Fe of farm were distributed to 250 farmers by the dignitaries.
At Pandirimamidi
On 05.12.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi has conducted World Soil
Day. Smt. T. Ratnabhai, MLC, Rampachodavaram attended as
chief guest and inaugurated the stalls arranged by KVK, Pandiri-
mamidi, Agriculture, Horticulture and Allied sectors in the
district. Video clip presentation followed by pledge on soil
health was taken up as per the guidelines of ICAR-ATARI. Dr. D.
Srinivas, Professor & Head, College of Agriculture, Rajahmundry
delivered a guest lecture on “Soil Health-Its Importance”. Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research and
other peoples representatives addressed the importance of soil health for sustainable agriculture
to the farming community. Soil health cards were issued to 25 tribal farmers of Tamarapalli and
Bandapalli villages of Rampachodavaram mandal. Scientists of Dr.YSRHU deputed for the
programme along with KVK technical team, representatives of NGOs, departmental officers and
about 450 farmers have attended the meeting.
At Periyavaram
World Soil Day was celebrated by KVK, Periyavaram on
05.12.2017. In this programme Dr. B. Govindarajulu, Principal
Scientist and Head, Citrus Research station, Petlur has
participated as chief guest and emphasized the importance of
protecting the soils from indiscriminate use of inorganic
chemicals and asked to take the oath on protecting the soils. Dr.
A. Ramanjaneyulu Reddy, scientist (SS&AC) has explained the
benefits of soil testing and soil test based fertilization.
Sri.Rajasekhar Rao, AMC chairman suggested farmers to go for soil testing. Sireesha, Agriculture
Officer, Venkatagiri provided the information related to the services provided by KVK with regard
to soil testing and soil health cards. All the KVK staff and scientists of HRS, Petlur have participated
in this programme. An awareness rally was conducted to motivate the farmers towards improving
the soil health with RHWEP students and AP Model school students along with the KVK staff was
taken up on this occasion.

National Agricultural Education Day
National Agricultural Education Day was conducted at CoH,
Anantharajupeta on 03.12.2017 involving teaching staff,
students and students from local colleges. Dr. M.Ramakrishna,
Associate Dean emphasized the importance of Agriculture
education and ongoing academic activities initiated by the
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Dr. P. Syam
Sundar Reddy, OSA read the bio-data of the first Indian Union Agricultural Minister, first president
of India and Bharthratna recipient Dr. Rajendra Prasad and also stressed the importance of
developing interest among the school children and college students to choose agriculture as their
professional career.
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Death Anniversary
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Death anniversary was organized on
06.12.2017 at Administrative office and CoH, Venkataraman-
nagudem. At College of Horticulture nearly one hundred
students and staff participated in the event. Dr.M.Raja Sekhar,
Prof (Hort.), Dr. A.V.D.Dorajee Rao, Asst.Prof. (Hort.) and
Dr.T.Suseela, Asst.Prof. (Hort.) delivered motivated the
students to excel in like Dr.B.R.Ambedkar with their lectures.
RHWEP Activities
RHWEP students allotted to HRS, Anantharajupeta actively
participated in the planting operations of different leafy
vegetables under model vegetable nursery development at HRS,
Anantharjupeta on 04.12.2017.
Exposure Visit
As a part of educational programme, Dr.N.Emmanuel, Asst.Prof
(Ento.), Sri. L.Narasimha Rao, Asst. Prof (Pl. Path.), CoH, Venata-
ramannagudem conducted field visits to Khandavalli, Revavelli
and Telikicherla villages to IIIrd year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture
students and diagnosed the symptoms of various pests and
diseases.

Extension
Training Programme
Twenty trainees of Friends of coconut trees (FoCT) training
programme being organized by Noveeal Coconut Producer Company
Ltd, Amalapuram visited HRS, Ambajipeta on 07.12.2017. Scientists of
HRS, Ambajipeta imparted training on quality seedlings production
and plant protection measures in coconut.
One day training cum exposure visit to the 50no. horticultural
farmers of Krishna district to equip the farmers with latest
technologies in the horticultural sector on 13.12.2017.
Sri. M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramanna-
gudem Sri G. Shaliraju and Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist
(Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem explained about improved
practices in vegetable cultivation and also about various demo
plots at KVK, Venkataramannagudem.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharjupeta as
a resource person imparted training to the mango growers of
Ananthapuramu on package of practices, flowering behaviour and pest
and disease management of mango conducted by Dept. of Horticulture,
Ananthapuramu at Farmers Training Cell on 13.12.2017.
Vocational Training Programme
KVK, Pandirimamidi has started 30 days vocational training
program on “Cashew Grafting Techniques” for 15nos. tribal youth
from 1st to 30th December, 2017 with financial assistance from ITDA,
Rampachodavaram. Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and Sri
K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) explained cashew cultivation
practices, importance of cashew grafts.

On 08.12.2017, Sri.G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with
technical team of KVK, Vonipenta have organized a training programme
on redgram at Mudireddipallithanda village. The scientists addressed the
farmers about the erection of bird perches, pheromone traps, application
of neem oil and need based application of pesticides.
On 02.12.17, Sri K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandiri-
mamidi attended training program as a resource person on “Canopy
management of cashew orchards” at Peddageddada village of
Rampachodavaram mandal organized by ITDA, Rampachodavaram
and addressed the farmers on canopy management of young cashew
orchards, method of application of fertilizers in basins, management
of flower and fruit drop, integrated management of pests and diseases.
On 02.12.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem attended a training programme as resource person
on "Capacity building programme on Sustainable Agricultural
Practices (SAP)" at Social service centre, Gunadala, Vijayawada
organized by PARD – NGO and explained about Sustainable
agricultural practices, improved production technology of pulses
and vegetables.
Diagnostic Visits
Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.N.B.V.
Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out
field diagnostic visit in Edarada village of Mamidikuduru mandal of
East Godavari district on 14.12.2017 where in Sri. B. Nageswara
Rao, Hon’ble member, Board of management, Dr.YSRHU have
participated along with local farmers and released parasitoids for
the control of coconut black headed caterpillar. Application of Trichoderma viride against basal stem
rot disease in coconut was also demonstrated.
On 14.12.2017, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) and Sri. J. Yoga
Narasimhulu Naidu, Research Associate (Extn.), KVK, Vonipenta visited
ivy gourd fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Settivaripalli
village of Mydukur mandal. Observed aphid and mealy bug infestation
and recommended the application of acephate @ 0.15% or
pymetrozine@ 0.06 %.
On 15.12.2017, Scientists of KVK, Vonipenta visited banana fields for
diagnosis of pests and diseases at G.V.Satram and surrounding villages
of Mydukur mandal. Observed sigatoka leaf spot disease and
recommended spraying of mancozeb @ 0.25% or chlorothalonil @
0.25% or propiconazole @ 0.1% or tridemorph @ 0.1%.

On 07.12.2017, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta
have visited citrus and acid lime fileds for diagnosis of pests and diseases
at Chenchiahgaripalli village of B.Matham mandal. Identified citrus canker
disease and boron deficiency in acid lime and recommended spraying of
copper oxychloride @ 30 g + streptocycline @ 1g/10l water for citrus
canker and borax @ 2 g/l water.
On 08.12.2017, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along
with technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited banana fileds for
diagnosis of pests and diseases at T.Kothapalli village of Mydukur
mandal. Identified fruit fly damage and suggested the removal
and destruction of infested fruits followed by application of
malathion @ 0.2% or erection of fruit fly traps.
On 13.12.2017, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with
technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited redgram fields for diagnosis
of pests and diseases at Mudireddipallithanda village of Mydukur
mandal and observed spotted pod borer infestation and recommended
spraying of chlorpyrifos @ 0.25% or spinosad @ 0.025% or
chlorantraniliprole @ 0.03% + dichlorvos @ 0.1%.
On 08.12.2017 Dr.E.Karunasree Senior Scientist & Head and Sri.G.Shali
Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited Papaya +
water melon and water melon fields at Jaggannapeta village and
observed boran deficiency and suggested application of borax.
Dr. L.Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram visited paddy
fields at Teerthampadu village of Dakkilimandal on 07.12.2017 and
observed leaf folder infestation and suggested the farmer to spray
flubendiamide 20 WDG @ 0.25g/l or flubendiamide 48 SC @ 0.1ml/l of
water or cartap hydrochloride 4G @ 8kg/acre.
On 07.12.17, Dr. P. Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK,
Periyavaram visited dairy farm at Kuppayapalem village of Dakkili
mandal and observed tick infestation and secretions from eyes in calves
of 5 months age and suggested administration of Subcutaneous injection
of ivermectin @ 0.2 mg/kg body weight and ciprofloxacin eye drops
twice for five days.
On 01.12.17 Sri. K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirima-
midi along with Sri. CH. Chittibabu, ADH, Rajahmundry and Sri Ramesh,
H.O., Rampachodavaram visited chilli fields in the villages of Yetapaka,
Kunavaram & Chintur mandals. Crop was infected with viral disease
(Gemini virus), also observed thrips & mites infestation and suggested
farmers to remove and destroy the infected plants immediately
followed by management of sucking pests.

On 14.12.2017, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited carbamate poisoning case of
buffalo at Venkataramannagudem village and treated with inj. 5% DNS,
I/V, inj.Atropine, S/C, inj.Avil, I/M and oral drenching of charcoal
powder and vegetable oil.
On 06.12.2017 Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem visited the fish farm at Bangarurajugudem, and found that
myxobolus infection and recommended to apply common salt @ 50 kg/acre and
formalin @ 1 lit/acre or copper sulphate @ 1 lit/acre every month.
Polam Pilustondi
On 06.12.2017, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with
technical team of KVK, Vonipenta have attended Polam pilusthondi
programme organized by Dept of Agriculture at Thallamapuram village
of Proddatur mandal. KVK scientists addressed the farmes about pests
and disease management in groundnut, bengal gram and paddy. Dr V.
Nagarjuna, Research Associate (SS & AC) explained about the
importance of soil and water analysis.
Field Day
On 01.12.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi has conducted field day on
Introduction of New Paddy Variety MTU-1156 (Tarangini) at Devaram
village of Devipatnam mandal sponsored by ATMA, Kakinada. Dr. A.
Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head, Sri P Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC),
Dr. Adarsha. S, Scientist (Ento.), Miss. Sri Vidya Rani. N, Scientist (Extn.)
and Sri K. Srinivasa Rao, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Amalapuram
observed the crop at harvesting stage and interacted with tribal farmers regarding crop duration,
pest & disease incidence and expected yield (3 tonnes/acre) of this variety in agency area. In this
programme Sri Dharmaraju, A.O, Allavaram, MPEOs and 24 tribal farmers have attended.
On 09.12.2017, Sri G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.K.Venkata
Subbaiah Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted
field day on paddy var.DRR Dhan – 45 at Pandugudem village.
Agricultural Education Day
On 03.12.2017, KVK, Vonipenta conducted the Agricultural Education
Day ceremony on behalf of our first President and Union Minister of
Agriculture Bharata Ratna Dr.Rajendra Prasad birthday at
MJPAPBCWR School, Vonipenta. The team motivated the school
children by addressing the importance of Agricultural Education and
also moralizing them about the significance of agriculture and farmer
socalled back bone of our nation, role of school children in agriculture development. Conducted
competitions like essay writing, elocution and drawing on agriculture related topics to create aware

ness to the students on Agriculture and allied sciences. In this programme Sri.Rasool, Principal and
school staff also participated.
On 03.12.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted essay writing and
drawing competitions to the DIET College students of Rampachoda-
varam mandal on Role of Government in increasing the production
of the farming community on the eve of Agricultural Education Day
with the help of Smt.Kshemabhai, DIET, College students of
Rampachodavaram mandal on Role of Government in increasing
the production of the farming community on the eve of Agricultural Education Day with the help of
Smt.Kshemabhai, DIET, College Prinicipal. In this competition 85 students participated. Winners
were awarded with prizes on World Soil Health Day by Smt. T.Ratnabhai, MLC, Rampachodavaram,
Dr.J.DilipBabu, Director of Research.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted Agricultural Education Day
on the birthday of Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on 03.12.2017
in the Mandala Parishath Pradhamikonnatha Patasala, Telikicherla.
In this program, Essay writing, Elocution and drawing competitions
were conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners on
04.12.2017.
Awareness Programme on Malnutrition
On 09.12.2017, KVK, Vonipenta have organized interaction and
nutrition education programme to the students of MJP AP BC Welfare
Residential school, Vonipenta. Pre test was conducted to 30 samples
and and 30 control group on macro and micro nutrients (Vitamins,
minerals), deficiencies and general things related to nutrition and
health concepts. Weekly one class will be conducted to assess the
sample group.
General
Visits
PG (Industrial Microbiology) students (six members) from Krishna
theja College of Engineering, Tirupati visited the CoH, Anantharaju-
peta on 14.12.2017. Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Dr. B.Tanujapriya and
Dr. K. Venkata satish, Sri K. SivaKesav Rao and Sri G. Venkatesh
explained them all the activities going on in Central Lab and PHT
laboratory. Students got exposure about equipment and instruments
used for Processing and Packing of fresh and processed products of fruits and vegetables.
Thirty Students and four staff members of S.K.S.D. Mahila Kalasala,
Tanuku visited College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem on
06.12.2017. Sri. L.Narasimha Rao, Asst. Prof (Pathology) and ELP
In-charge for mushroom culture, explained about the production of
spawns and button and milky mushroom.

Dr. K. Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem attended state
level committee meeting on “Gnanabhoomi” held on 14.12.2017 at District Collectorate, Eluru, West
Godavari district.
Dr.K.Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur participated in the
National conference on “New Vistas in Vegetable Research towards
Nutritional Security under Changing Climate Scenario” at TNAU
Coimbatore from 6th -9th December, 2017 and has given a poster
presentation on “Site specific nutrient management –a sustainable
nutrient management option in elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus
paeniifolius) under Godavari alluviums of Andhra Pradesh” in the theme area “Input management
for sustainable vegetable Production” and got second prize for the poster.
Human Resource Development
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, HRS, V.R.Gudem,
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta,
Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), Dr. T. Rajasekharam, Scientist
(PP), Dr M.Kavitha, Scientist (PP), CRS, Petlur and Dr.A.Snehalatha
Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur attended one day
international workshop on “Integrated Management of Root-lesion
Nematode” organised in collaboration with University of Southern
Queensland, Australia at NIPHM, Hyderabad on 11.12.2017.
Radio Programmes
Smt.R.Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur gave a radio talk on “Lilly poola saagulo
melakuvalu” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on 05.12.2017.
First year polytechnic students from S.K.P.P.Horticultural
Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram under the leadership of
Sri.M.Sattiraju, Principal visited HRS, Kovvur on 15.12.2017.
Dr.K.Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur explained about the
tissue culture propagation in banana.
Meetings
Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr.YSRHU attended one day
NSS training programme on “Public financial management system
(PFMS) & (EAT) modules” on 14.12.2017 at Acharya Nagarjuna
University, Guntur.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharjupeta
participated in a meeting convened by Dr. Tarun Bajaj, General Manager,
APEDA, New Delhi at Ananthapuramu on 11th and 12th, December 2017
regarding APEDA cluster development programme in Kadapa, Kurnool and
Ananthapuramu districts and shared his views on pre & post harvest stage,
extension work etc. with regard to Pomegranate and Banana export from
Andhra Pradesh and surveyed various fields and fruit markets.
