4 Knightly News January 2020 2018 KNIGHTS COUNCIL 9202
Dear Brother Knights, We spend a lot of time thinking about our loved ones during the month of February, especially around Valen-tine’s Day. Technically, it’s St. Valentine’s Day, originally the feast day of a Roman saint from the third cen-tury. There is much speculation about the origins of the feast and even some discussion about the identity of the saint. We do know that this St. Valentine was martyred on February 14, 269 and the feast day was insti-tuted by Pope Gelasius I in 496. But how did St. Valentine, a martyr, come to be associated with love and ro-mance? Again, there is much speculation and one popular story is that he cured the blind daughter of his jailer. Before he was led off to his death, he wrote her a note and signed it “Your Valentine.” Unlike St. Valentine, we will most likely not be called to martyrdom, but we do think about our loved ones…and we write love notes in greeting cards. Gifts are also commonly given to the ones we love. But have you ever considered some special gifts for the ones you love? That’s really what insurance is all about. People buy insurance because they love someone. I bought life in-surance because I love my wife and daughter. If I’m not here to provide for them, I want to make sure they can continue to live the lifestyle I’ve been so fortunate to be able to provide. I’ve been able to provide a good lifestyle for my family, but sometime down the road, I’ll take the assets I’ve accumulated and retire. Long Term Care Insurance helps protect those assets in case of an extended care event. To prepare for this, I purchased long-term care insurance for myself and would encourage all my brother Knights to consider doing the same. Now, most importantly, I won’t have to spend down all the hard-earned money that I’ve accumulated to pay for expensive long-term care at my home or in a facility when I need it…I’ve shifted that risk to the Knights. All the products we have available are centered around protection; guaranteed protection for me, for my fam-ily and for what I’ve been able save. Is your protection where you want it to be for your loved ones? During this month as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s sit down; you, me and your wife and see where you stand. Go ahead and buy that greeting card, write her a love note…maybe even get a beautiful arrangement of flowers or a dozen roses. But remember, the gift of guaranteed protection you purchase with the Knights will be there when it’s needed most. Vivat Jesus! John Mueller, Fraternal Insurance Agent Local Insurance Agency Office Update: The Sacramento area now has a new General Agent, Carlos Gutierrez, as Todd Cabral recently left Knights of Columbus Insurance. Although the Gutierrez Agency has the Bay Area in addition to Sacramento, please be assured that you will continue to receive quality service and support from the agency office and me.

Brothers: It's a very exciting time in our order. You may have heard of the new combined degrees. This will combine all three degrees at one time. The ceremony takes just over 30 minutes. and the ex-citing part is no more secrecy. Family and friends are encour-aged to come witness their loved ones become a knight. This should open the door to more interest in joining our order. This should enable brother Knights who are only first-degree to take an opportunity to become second and third without spending all day at a separate ceremony. However all old degrees will remain secret. The new ceremony is much easier to perform than the old. I en-courage all councils do consider establishing a degree team.
all councils should be planning and coordinating their membership drives for the upcoming months. I will be looking for positive feedback on the ceremony. Auburn council will be holding the new degree in April. Contact Grand Knight Tom Epperson for information. [email protected] The Walk for Life was last month in San Francisco. District 5 was well-represented and my appreciation and thanks goes out to all of you who took the time to spend the day demonstrat-ing our beliefs that all life is precious and a gift from God that should not be refused. and re-ports from all other walks in the United States show that numbers of protesters are in decline. I only saw a few protesters. And the majority of them were off topic and only attacking Presi-dent Trump. This shows the true power of prayer is more powerful then hate. keep the positive outlook and the prayers coming. We may see the end of this madness they call pro-choice. God bless the Knights of Columbus. Jeff Jones DD#5
