“The display system we were working with just wasn’t up to par with the hospital’s standards,” explains Dr. Jyoti Arora, Senior Radiologist at the Medicity. “They weren’t of high quality, and we weren’t happy with the resolution they offered.”

The industry standard

Dr. Jyoti Arora didn’t have to think long to find an alternative, however. “When I was in the UK, all the hospitals I worked at were using Barco display systems. It’s really the standard there. When I came back to India, I was appalled by the quality of the displays that were used, so I tried to convince the management to go for Barco as well. With success.”

Safeguarding reputation

According to Dr. Jyoti Arora, Barco is an obvious choice for a reputed institution like the Medicity. “The quality of the Barco displays is undeniable. For a hospital with a reputation like Medanta, compromising on quality is a no-go. This was obvious from the previous solution, which was implemented without the doctors’ input. We weren’t going to make the same mistake twice.”

Hospital-wide implementation

At the time of writing, there are 32 sets of Barco MDRC-2120 and 2 sets of MDRC-2224 BL displays in use at the Medicity, to read any images from x-rays to ultrasounds and CT and MR scans. Dr. Jyoti Arora: “Most of them are used in the radiology department, of course. And so far, the results are excellent: apart from the superior quality, these displays are super-easy to use and are low on maintenance. Which means we didn’t need to contact Barco’s services yet. And we’re not planning to either!”

With 1,600 beds, the Medicity is as

vibrant as the city of Gurgaon itself. The

radiology department alone – which

consists of around 40 team members

– performs about 25,000 exams per

month. At the specific request of the

medical staff, the hospital decided to

replace its existing PACS reading systems

with Barco’s clinical review displays.
