Ramadan Kareem!

The smell of burning incense and the sight of do-gooders giving away care packages at stoplights can only mean one thing: The Holy Month is here.

The world, and the region more specifically, has taken a few hits in the past year. But with the arrival of Ramadan, we all need to be reminded of our humanity. Ramadan is all about unity and

solidarity, so this issue focuses on connecting with the world in a positive way. This month, we’re bringing you inspiring stories of Muslims from around the world. Uplifting stories about social entrepreneurs, heroes and everyday people who will hopefully push some of us to make a conscious decision to be kind to the world and to each other.

The article Muslim Heroes is very close to our hearts. With all the negative press surrounding Muslims, we wanted to take back the narrative and show what Islam is all about. The people mentioned in the article have all fundamentally impacted the lives of the people around them with their acts of courage or ingenuity. When you put down our magazine this month, we hope you feel a little more connected, because that is the greatest thing humans do. We connect with each other.

It’s always a source of pride when we come across Saudi conglomerates who make it a point to give back to their homeland. Dallah AlBaraka is definitely a gentle giant under the guidance of Sheikh Saleh Kamel’s vision to explore the potential growth of local societies by investing in educating, training and qualifying the youth and utilizing resources to implement national projects and turn them into feasible investments. They try to create impact through a variety of projects including: the Dallah Academy for Volunteerism, Good citizenship, Fab Lab and the Makkah Business Incubator.

APP News

The Public Security Department launched a mobile app called Kulluna Amn (we are all security/safety) that helps make reporting crimes/incidents easier for citizens and expatriates in Saudi. It allows users to attach pictures, video and audio files and choose the incident location. You can report accidents, crimes, bad driving behavior etc. It

can even help you if someone parks behind your car and leaves, blocking your way. You just have to take a photo of the car and the license plate and upload it via this app and they should be able to find and fine the owner of the car.

This app intends to help facilitate rescue efforts and limit damages and losses in cases of accidents or crimes.

The growing demand for training courses and certification probably reflects a growth in awareness and interest in self and career development. In general, education has gone through several phases of change in format. With the advent in Internet infrastructure and mobile landscape, the search for and acquisition of information and knowledge soared. A true revolution has ensued.

In Saudi Arabia, the demand for ESL (English as a Second Language)

FINANCIAL PLANNING W I T H R E E M A S A A D

• Determine your learning objective. Is it basic or business communication skills; academic certification; research writing or other?

• Check the specialty and strength areas of your learning institute before signing up. Some centers focus on conversational English (or other languages) while others focus on grammar and writing.

• Check the credentials of the instructors and the teaching staff. If the desired language is not the mother tongue of the instructor, do check their background and years in training.

• Do not assume that the promised course duration will deliver best results. Learning varies across students and so does the effort and level of persistence.

• A certificate is worth nothing if it is not coupled with real learning. That is why you should not buy your way to progress. Work it up.

THE COST OF LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE

training saw unprecedented growth especially with the commencement of scholarship programs in 2010. The cost of such training is often high (sometimes north of SR 4,000 per month) but the quality of the outcome does not always match the price. I personally recommend that no training should be attempted without discussing the objectives and course methods first.

Many students pay large fees expecting quick results. When it does not work, all they remember is the financial cost.

For best results, Maha Noor Elahi (@MahaNoorElahi), an English Language Lecturer at Dar Al Hekma University, offered the following tips:

ISLAM AND SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP It’s that time again when being kind is more gratifying!

Ramadan is when praying becomes more special, Qur’an becomes an extension of one’s arm, and people become kinder and selfless.

The Islamic values become clearly reflected into the heart of social entrepreneurship. For instance, sadaqa comes in many ways, not exclusive to money or clothes, but rather the smiles of passers by and the infinite kindness of all.

Social entrepreneurs aim to create a sustainable social business as a solution to a societal problem regardless of profit maximization. Itis all about giving without receiving, enough profit to sustain the solution. Hence, the main focus is the effectiveness and longevity of the helpful solution.

The best gain is that feeling that you’ve done something right, something beneficial to others and contributing to the greater scheme of things. Strikingly similar to the feeling you get after performing sadaqa.

This feeling is not exclusive to the creators of social businesses; it extends to the many contributing employees, making them wake up in the morning with a better conscience. It is about knowing your daily 9 hours are adding to the community and is encouraging social empathy.

Islam views aiding others as one of the most highly recognized hasanat-filled deeds. To lend a hand to your brother is a beloved act to Allah, similarly, benefiting society with all your intentions and actions is of the purest concepts. To make such a concept the path of your career can cause a ripple effect of virtue in the community and can inspire others to follow.

Social entrepreneurship not only celebrates this concept in all its steps, but also enforces it as a priority and a main factor. When the social business acts as an innovative and a positive solution to a social problem then it’ll ease a present need and develop the community together. This is in comparison to helping only one less-privileged person by giving

money; meanwhile a social business will help several and create a lasting impact. Kind of like sadaqa jariyah.

All deeds are great deeds, but surely some can hold a greater value than realized.

Kindness is another quality that Islam values and a trait we’ve learned from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Social entrepreneurship is many things, and kindness is one of them. To take notice of what the environment requires, then taking initiative by brainstorming and planning possible solutions that you implement resiliently for the sake of the cause itself and nothing else. Now, that’s the true spirit of kindness. Ramadan sure is the perfect month to overdose on good deeds.

Become more productive at work.

By Anne-Marie Argile

Feel as though you’re putting in endless hours at the office without seeing the results you’d like? It might be time to evaluate your productivity in the work place. Here’s how.

2. Plan Ahead Deadlines can be stressful, so plan and aim to achieve them ahead of time. This not only takes the pressure off, but also allows you to cope with the unexpected: that last minute presentation request or that sudden meeting out of town.

1. Manage Your To-Do ListAn out of control ‘to-do’ list can be demoralizing and can shift your focus away from the priorities. Be realistic about what you can achieve and only include items that are relevant to what you need. Review and update your list on a daily basis.

3. Stop Procrastinating Tackle tasks (especially ones you’ve been avoiding) head-on and cross them off your ‘to-do’ list. Chances are the task won’t seem as arduous as you’d feared, so enjoy the sense of accomplishment after completing it.

4. Focus Multi-tasking can be an effective way of working, but sometimes it’s more advantageous to focus on one task at a time. You’re likely to feel most productive in the mornings, so dedicate this time to completing the more complex tasks. Avoid distraction by putting your phone on silent.

6. Take Control of Your Inbox An overflowing inbox can be overwhelming. Take control of emails by creating folders marked "Urgent," "Action," "Information" as well as additional ones for specific projects. Dedicate times for responding to emails.

7. Use Helpful Apps Pen and paper are fail-safe, but if you’re a lover of apps then there are many available to inspire you to be more productive, such as Clear, Evernote and Any.do.

5. Delegate Delegating isn’t a sign of weakness, but an indication of efficiency. Outsourcing work to your team is a good way to free yourself to focus on your priorities.

MUSLIM HEROESNo, we don’t mean Marvel characters. This is a round up of real people worth looking up to. By Areeb Al Shathri

ABDEL KADER HAIDARAMalianOver the course of nine months, Haidara and his team scoured Timbuktu and collected 350,000 manuscripts from 45 libraries. At the time, militants were destroying historically and culturally important books claiming they violate Islam. As a result of Haidara’s actions, some of Mali’s most priceless treasures remain intact.

HOSAM ZOWAWISaudiIn medicine, time is often of the essence. This fact spurred the then 29 year-old microbiologist to develop a diagnostics tool to speedily identify infections. With fast diagnostics, patients’ survival rates can increase and the chances of it spreading can decrease. For his efforts, Zowawi received Rolex’s 2014 Young Laureate award.

She is the winner of the Human Defenders Award, the U.S. State Department’s International Women of Courage Award, as well as the Nelson Mandela Award in 2016. At 13, she was a child bride and endured physical abuse for 20 years. After attending a women’s empowerment program, the mother of four set out on a mission to empower her gender. Upon being rejected by the all-male jirga (an informal judicial council) she started her own. She later became the country’s first woman to serve in a male judicial council and spearheaded the country’s successful campaign to abolish child marriages.

CanadianAlong with a team of four other MBA students from McGill University, Ashour won the Hult Prize for young social entrepreneurs. They used the money accompanying the prize to start Aspire FG. It aims to address food security in the world’s urban slums. This earned Ashour a place on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list.

ASLAM BULBULIASouth African Bulbulia is an advocate for community projects and is currently planning to teach English to migrant women in his community, as well as to put together a storytelling event in the same community to share a little bit about who lives there. The concept is to encourage diversity and acceptance and shall take place under a banner of artists called AwethuArt. Inspired by writer Aman Ali and filmmaker

Bassam Tariq who traveled across America to break their fast at a different mosque every day during Ramadan a few years ago, he decided to pray taraweeh in 30 mosques over the 30 days, in 2013. He did that to promote solidarity amongst Muslims and immerse himself in the calmness of taraweeh prayers. Bulbulia’s major aim is to bring Muslims together and to focus on all the similarities between people rather than their differences.

On Jan. 9, while stacking shelves at a grocery store in Paris, Bathily heard gunshots. He quickly ushered a dozen shoppers into a walk-in fridge in the basement, and shut off the exhaust fan to reduce noise. As he was comforting panicked customers, an armed terrorist took hostages in the grocery store above and opened fire killing four people. Despite being left out of the Legion of Honor ceremony for heroes of the terror attacks in Paris, Bathily became a full French citizen and currently works at the mayor’s office.

An Islamic scholar and role model, Sheikh Al Sumait helped build 5,700 mosques, four universities, 860 school and 9,500 wells in Africa. That is just the tip of the iceberg. He decided to leave behind his profession as a medical practitioner and head to Africa in order to dedicate his time, energy and money to the less fortunate. In 1981,

FALLEN HEROESTUGCE ALBAYRAKGermanOn Nov. 6, Albayrak defended two girls who were being harassed by a group of men. Unfortunately, one of the men delivered a single blow to her head after an exchange of words, causing her to fall unconscious. Albayrak was pronounced brain dead on Nov. 26 and was taken off life support two days later.

he helped establish the Africa Muslims Agency, later named Direct-Aid. Even as a high-school student he was always kindhearted, he had helped collect provisions for poor drivers and drove them to their workplace everyday. He lived a life of gracious giving and passed away leaving a legacy of prosperity and wellbeing. He is an inspiration to all.

SHEIKH ABDUL RAHMAN AL SUMAIT Kuwaiti

FARMAN ALIPakistani Jeddah’s floods were an unfortunate event that took away the lives of people along with their homes and cars. Farman Ali, former martial arts champ, showed extraordinary courage when he saved 14 people trapped in flashfloods. He received an award posthumously from Pakistan and The World Assembly of Muslim Youth, WAMY, had announced it would sponsor the widow and his daughters.

SALAH FARAH Kenyan During his commute to work, Al Shabab militants ambushed Farah’s bus. The terrorists asked commuters to separate according to religion. Farah knew doing so would surely lead to the deaths of all the Christians so he refused, because he knew it was his duty to help save those around him no matter what religion they follow. In turn, the militant shot him and two other passengers before abandoning the bus. He sadly died in the hospital a month later.

1. Never disrupt your parents’ viewing habits.Unless you have a death wish, stay clear of the remote control while your elders are present. To the untrained mind this might appear to be their routine of keeping up with their shows, but we all know that it’s tradition.

2. There always has to be enough food. Some families put out all the iftar at once, while some wait until after everyone returns from prayers. Whichever one it is, we all know that the following meal will be the loudest your family will ever get; conversations never waiver. That is until (insert your family’s Ramadan show here) comes on… Traditions.

3. You’ll probably see your family (extended especially) twice as much as you usually do.Ramadan is just as much about family as it is about religion. Extended family you only see once a year come out of the woods with invitations. Dust off your jalabiyas ladies -gents you pretty much wear the same thing anyways- and bring on the azeemas (gatherings).

4. Traffic is insufferable during the hours before maghrib prayer.Occasionally while we’re seething because athan is seconds away and containing our road rage like good Muslims, a stranger will tap on your window with a boxed iftar to remind you what Ramadan is really about.

5.“Be home by 11 p.m.,” is a phrase no parent has likely ever said in Ramadan.Like we said earlier, everything changes in Ramadan, even social norms. After isha prayer people either perform taraweeh or carry on with their plans, so the social scene is pushed back later. But the moment the clock hits midnight on the eve of Eid, coming home at 2 a.m. is no longer an option. Besides, we have to be up for Eid prayers.

But it’s mostly the online

The first Ramadan I spent abroad was in Manchester in 2012. Maghrib prayer was almost after nine, so we only prayed the night prayer on the weekends since its timing was late. There was an old British Muslim man in our institute, who was overjoyed with our presence and he’d join us for iftar at times. He became a friend and even saw us off at the airport.

Inspired by Humans of New York, Humans of Ramadan was initiated by Usama Malik last year. Malik traveled to different Texan state cities to visit several mosques and asked people about their backgrounds and experiences, hoping to shed light on the time when Muslims are closest to their faith and to show their diversity, beauty and wisdom. He plans to continue his project with a wider audience.

SPIRIT OF RAMADAN

HUMANS OF RAMADAN

Spirit of Ramadan has been bridging cultures through visual story telling and curating images from people’s Ramadan around the world since 2011. The project tapped into the artistic abilities of millions of people across the globe in an effort to share the beauty of our holy month.

The initiative began as an annual photography competition with a prestigious judging panel including its founder Dr. Basel Almisshal, an award winning architect and United Nations (UN) Photographer.

Eyad Mashat How Did He Make It?

Eyad Mashat discusses his entrepreneurial passion and femi9’s success.

Why fashion? Having the know-how surely has a strong influence; Al Mashat family has been working in fashion and retail since 1934. I have been involved hands-on in all related processes from a very young age, and I have grown to love it.

What was your ultimate goal behind launching femi9? My dream was to have a widely spread womenswear brand, with many branches across Saudi Arabia, I wanted to be serving women in all cities. My vision was to grow a powerful entity in my country.

How did the idea of femi9 first spark? I was 25 years old, finished with my college degree in Switzerland, back in Saudi Arabia and driven to launch my own fashion business; and so I did, but that was not femi9. I launched another fashion brand that lived for only 8 months – tried and missed. I did not succeed in exploring the psychology of my target market and understand its needs. That was the time when I had a serious reality check, where I assessed my experience and derived learnings which set me to create femi9 with more confidence and experience.

To you, what is success? In my opinion, you succeed when you achieve milestones towards your vision and as it evolves, you set new milestones and track your accomplishments along the way. That is what makes success so rewarding, it validates your potential and raises your bar.

Tell us about the femi9 brand revamp. Why and how? We rebranded femi9 in 2012, introducing the market to a clearer brand identity and an enhanced shopping experience. It was a key milestone that we had to undertake; the market is evolving, we understand our customer better, and femi9 was ready to go to the next level. The new logo merges between English and Arabic, communicating that the brand comes from an Arabian origin and operates with international standards. The stores and all other brand

touchpoints were refreshed to convey the brand feel and serve our customers better.

Tell us about your experience in Tedx Jeddah. A lot of the achievements I work towards are inspired by my family, Tedx was one of them. My eldest daughter, Tala, was looking forward to my Tedx talk; knowing that, I was eager to truly deliver – to Tala and to the audience attending. The topic I addressed was titled ‘Decoding Your Fears’; fear holds us back and limits us. My talk focused on how you can decipher your fears and eliminate them, in order to achieve your vision and reach your potential.

Your vision for femi9 by 2020 We plan to have reached 100 branches; femi9 will be available with 72 stores by 2017 and we are working on mega-expansion projects.

your inspiration, here are crafty tips on how to bring festivity into your home using some of the collection items.

During Ramadan gatherings, most of the action takes place during iftar and suhoor and at the table. Add Ramadan-flavored tablecloth and napkins for a complete set while placing lanterns around the

table during iftar to further add a feel of the holy month. From drinking laban or re-fills of soobia to break your fast, use IKEA’s glass carafe to quench your thirst, mess free.

Post iftar, families and friends gather around the television for some entertainment. Use DOFTRIK’s colorful floor cushions and rugs as an Arabesque seating majlis. Place lanterns and tea light holders to keep the ambience soft and serene, and don’t forget the cozy throws!

TO GET RID OF THE WEIGHT

Let’s face it: we’re all lazy when it comes to just thinking of diets or anything related to activity. Sometimes making little changes, such as the following, can make a difference.

1. Chew your food properly; an average of 20-32 times before swallowing.

2. Wear fitted clothes/jeans; this will act as a reminder that you are uncomfortable, limiting food intake.

3. Plate food properly; the smaller the plate, the less food you will eat.

4. Drink more water; 1.5 - 2 liters per day.

5. Try staying in colder room temperatures. According to research in the journal Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism, spending time in chilly temperatures can boost calorie burn by 30 percent.

6. Limit variety. Research conducted by Dawn Jackson Blatner, a Chicago dietitian and author of Flexitarian Diet, claims that variety actually makes you eat more. The research was backed by studies, including one that found participants ate more fries when offered ketchup and mayonnaise for dipping.

Page 73: DR Issue 40

71DESTINATIONKSA.COM

7. Admire your reflection, especially while eating. This actually tends to minimize your calorie intake, and lets you think twice about consuming the extra calories.

8. Turn off the TV, limit distractions while you munch.

9. Determine whether you’re hungry or simply bored. Think before heading to the fridge: what will you get? If nothing comes to mind, then you’re probably just bored.

10. Surround yourself with fit and health-oriented friends. This will definitely encourage you to eat healthy and workout.

11. Eat in dimmer lights. In a Cornell University study, researchers found that people who ate a meal under darker lighting consumed 175 fewer calories than those who ate in bright areas.

12. Always keep your eyes on fruits and veggies. Usually seeing nutritious food will trigger your cravings for them.

13. Follow health-oriented fitness professionals on Instagram and other social media. It will definitely make you re-evaluate your choices and motivate you to make better choices.

14. Weigh yourself daily. According to a Cornell University study, frequent self-weighing and tracking results can help people lose weight and keep it off.

15. Eat within a 12-hour window. A study published in the Cell Metabolism journal showed that eating within a 12-hour time frame (e.g.: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) benefitted weight loss, blood cholesterol levels and blood sugar control.

16. Eat and write; keep a food diary. It will help you keep track of your food intake.

17. Keep unhealthy foods away. Out of sight, out of mind.

18. Whenever you think of going back to your old eating habits, distract yourself. Practice your hobbies.

H E A LT H Y L I V I N GH E A LT H Y L I V I N G SPIRITUALITY

I’tikaf is the Prophet’s sunnah; the profound spiritual practice of secluding oneself during the last 10 days of Ramadan for meditation and prayers. Prophet Mohammed PBUH would stay in the mosque away from his family and friends during the entire last 10 days.

Meditation during i’tikaf gives your mind calm and focus; instead

of becoming preoccupied with your life and external

world, we focus on our iman (faith) and inner spiritual world.

Conditions of I’tikaf: Similar to other manasek (rituals), you should be a

capable and sane Muslim, with the correct intentions, in addition to staying at the mosque - for men only. Fasting is an obvious prerequisite. Once your intention is set,

i’tikaf can be done in any mosque.

I’TIKAF DURING RAMADAN

DOs:• Take care of your health by eating and sleeping well.• Recite Qur’an and supplications and avoid disturbing others. • Remember to pack smart with all your essentials; necessary medication and a first aid kit, along with clean clothes and sanitation supplies. • Be considerate of others at all times; the Prophet (PBUH) advised his companions to not eat strong-scented food to avoid disturbing others during prayers.

DON’Ts:• Talk about worldly affairs; your focus should be entirely on the afterlife. • Stay online all the time or waste time.

If you plan to go to Al Masjid Al Nabawi, you

should register online and take the printout with you.

Link to register for I’tikaf in Madina:

eservices.wmn.gov.sa(Please note: The Masjid Al Nabawi website is primarily

in Arabic. You can navigate to “Visitors’ Services” on the menu and select “I’tikaf

Request”. The registration page itself is available in four

different languages).

The last 10 days brought alive with stronger faith, prayers and du’aas.

No Problem! Here are five ways to connect with the Ramadan spirit in your own way.By Anne-Marie Argile

NotMuslim?

Page 77: DR Issue 40

75DESTINATIONKSA.COM

FASTWhat better way to connect with the spirit of Ramadan than by fasting? Fasting is a way for Muslims to develop empathy with the less fortunate. You don’t have to adhere to all the rules, just do whatever you can. If you get the opportunity, break fast with a Muslim family. We learn more about a people when we share a meal with them.

TAKE UP MEDITATIONRamadan is a time for reflection. Meditation boasts both mental and physiology benefits from reducing stress, blood pressure and aging, to increasing happiness and self-awareness. Download the app Calm or Headspace to help you get started. If you have the time, head west on Makkah Road and find your own meditation spot.

PERFORM AN ACT OF KINDNESSShow consideration or appreciation for someone with an act of kindness no matter how small. In making others feel valued, we make ourselves feel valued; which in turn encourages us to have a more positive approach to life. Focus on the important things this month and don’t worry about the immaterial.

MAKE IT A DATEAs the Muslim community around you fasts by day and feasts by night, don’t miss out on the festivities. Arrange to meet with friends for dinner at a Ramadan tent and feel the buzz of the celebrations. Hotels like the Four Seasons, Al Faisaliah and the InterContinental are well known for their iftar tents.

START A DINNER CLUB Nothing beats taking the time to gather people around a table to break bread. Sharing platters work well for large groups, and can help people feel more social. You can even ask guests to bring dishes of their choice. Whether you decide to make it a weekly or monthly occurrence, just make it happen this month.

So grand it is, in every sense of the word that it can easily boast a similar grandeur to that of national mosques of other Arabian countries; the likes of Al Fatah mosque in Bahrain or the Sultan Qaboos mosque in Oman. I came across this huge mosque that was gleaming under the noon sun. It was spellbinding, with its lofty minarets, sprawling courtyard and lucent white stone with grey lines running across it. I could imagine multiple football fields being able to fit in the entire complex including its vast parking area. The mosque sits on the intersection of the 3rd Ring Road and Prince Sultan Street. A huge residential project is being undertaken right next to

it, considering its size it can easily accommodate all the eventual dwellers. After parking in the tree-lined parking area, we climbed a set of stairs to reach the courtyard. There is even parking space in the basement, normally in use during Ramadan and Eid occasions when the mosque sees thousands of worshippers gathering at it. The grand mosque seemed to dwarf other things around it. Transfixed by its beauty and sheer size, we just stood there staring at it for a while. It shone brightly under the sun and is illuminated beautifully at night. Two towering minarets measuring 71 meters flank its main entrance.

The mosque was built by prominent Saudi

businessman Sulaiman Al Rajhi and was inaugurated

fairly recently in 2013. Having a capacity to accommodate up to 47,000 worshippers,

it is the 2nd largest mosque in Makkah and amongst the

largest in the Middle East. The mosque features elevators, escalators and a conference

hall. There is even a functioning water treatment

plant on site and efficient lighting systems that seek to reduce its carbon footprint.

Page 86: DR Issue 40

DESTINATION RIYADH JUNE 201684

After crisscrossing the wide courtyard we reached the main door of the mosque. Above the door is a towering arch that has a beautifully crafted latticed window at its center. Inside we noticed that the mosque is extremely wide. The high ceiling just adds to its opulence. The dome in the center is rather small, compared to the mosque’s large size. An ornate chandelier hangs from it. The overall style of the mosque is contemporary Islamic and the aesthetics ooze of tranquility. For a mosque of such opulence, the mimbar (prayer niche) is very simple with its marble and minimalistic designs.

Alongside the mosque runs a portico with carved arches. After passing through the arches, we reached the mosque’s library. It houses a decent collection of Islamic books. The mosque is popular amongst locals of Makkah, but remains relatively unknown to visitors of the city because it is overshadowed by Al Masjid Al Haram. Had it been in any other city, it would have been a tourist magnet. In all aspects, it is worthy of becoming a popular tourist site and a place that umrah and Hajj tour groups definitely need to add to their itinerary.

SAUDI POSTAL HISTORYFrom camels and caravans to express delivery.

By Mohammed Mirza

• •Before the introduction of postage stamps and the railway, the limited amounts of mail that

was sent traveled mainly by camel.

In Riyadh, shop owners volunteered to complete mail services

by gathering at Safa Square, putting sacks

of cloth labeled by city or village.

The senders would then put their letters

in the respective sacks, which would be sent

along with caravans or travelers going to that

particular city.

• • • •The Hijaz in the early

20th century had developed postage

stamps, postal services and operations on a

small scale; they even sent mail internationally.

Recognizing the importance of postal services, King Abdul Aziz set up the Posts,

Telegraphs and Telephones (PTT)

Directorate in 1926.

1926 1926 1934

1952 1970's 20162000's

In the same year, King Abdul Aziz issued stamps, featuring the King’s tugra,

the ruler’s signature and emblem.

After the country’s unification, the first

stamps marking Saudi Arabia were issued

in 1934.

•Later on in 1952,

the postal activities were moved to the Ministry of

Communications.

Post-1969, Saudi Post witnessed many developments, most

importantly, an independent budget being announced for Saudi postal services.

Many more postal services were

introduced, such as EMS and Naqel, which expanded their operations

substantially.

Today, Saudi Post has a postal network that

covers all locations of The Kingdom,

with over 475 main branches and
