DESCRIPTION
Dr. Wei-Jen Huang 黃維仁博士 is a clinical psychologist and a faculty member at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Huang is internationally-renowned for his work on couples’ therapy, relationship education, and multicultural issues. He has been a repeated invited speaker for the Governments of China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, as well as the Qatar Foundation, providing training and consultation on relationship issues. Dr. Huang was the 2004 United Nation International Family Conference Keynote Speaker, as well as the 2014 Rotary International Assembly Keynote Speaker (RI has over one million members, consisted of business leaders from 250+ nations). He is the recipient of the 2013 AACC Diversity Award, and the 2015 Northwestern University Distinguished Service Award. He was recognized as a national leader and invited to meet President George W. Bush at the White House. Generations of Northwestern students have been raving about Dr. Huang’s insightful and heartwarming lectures, affectionately referring to him as “Dr. Love.” Dr. Huang has also created the highly acclaimed 12 session “Journey to Intimacy: Emotional Intelligence and Personal Growth” Relationship Enhancement Program (JTI 親密之旅). This 12 session Chinese Language Relationship Skills Training Curriculum has integrated the active ingredients of several state of the art empirically validated therapy approaches, such as CBT, DBT and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). The JTI Curriculum includes 12 DVDs, Leader’s Manual and Participants’ Workbook. JTI focuses on developing insights regarding intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics, enhancing communication and conflict management skills. The goal is to equip Chinese mental health professionals and paraprofessionals to reach out and serve millions of Chinese people in need (especially for those who normally have difficulty accessing mental health resources due to cultural stigma, financial difficulty or the lack of trained Chinese people helpers). Over 20,000 facilitators in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, South Africa, Canada and USA have received JTI facilitator’s training, and through the small psychoeducation groups they conduct, JTI has already reached thousands of Chinese families. All JTI group participants are encouraged to focus on their own personal growth rather than changing others, develop emotional intelligence, learn relationship skills, and seek professional psychological services as needed. Everyone has power to hurt or to heal others, good intention is not equal to good impact and Love can be Learned. Listening is Loving, Empathy is Healing. To Love is to Bring Out the Best in Each Other. Let's learn to be students of life, for life. My mission in life
• Serve the underserved Asians with the Best Available
Psychological Resources
• Due to cultural barriers and mental health stigma, people
in need are reluctant to seek help, therefore we must reach
out to them, disseminate high quality psychological
resources and inspire them for life long learning
• Integrate empirically supported treatment approaches
(CBT, DBT, EFT, Interpersonal, Psychodynamic, etc.),
transform the key therapeutic components into culturally
sensitive layperson language and practical skills everyone
can learn and benefit.
