Low light conditions– Low vision

performance?Not with the

Page 2: Dr. Gregory Parkhurst Visian ICL Night Vision

Study groups were younger patients with lower to moderate myopia

• The two sub groups were matched by age and refraction

In normal lighting conditions, the Visian ICL delivered outstanding visual outcomes as did the LASIK procedures1

A recent study compared both the normal and low luminance visual acuity and contrast sensitivity of patients previously treated with the Visian ICL and nomogram optimized Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK1*

• LogMAR visual acuity and contrast sensitivity on the Rabin Super Vision test chart were presented under normal and low density light levels

- The Rabin Super Vision test–a unique test card that allows for both visual acuity and contrast sensitivity measurements on a single chart

- Top portion of the chart tests for visual acuity while the bottom half includes highly calibrated levels of contrast

• For low luminance simulation, a fi lter was placed in front of the illuminated Rabin Super Vision test chart, providing the same green color as a night vision goggle display while reducing the luminance from 60-70 cd/m2 to 5 cd/m2

• Low luminance contrast sensitivity improved in both groups with a statistically signifi cant gain of 1.5 lines with the Visian ICL group1

• The Visian ICL low luminance visual acuity improved signifi cantly by 1.5 lines1

• There was no statistically signifi cant improvement in the LASIK group1

1.5 Lines Better

• No signifi cant increase in higher order aberrations, with the Visian ICL2

• Lower level of HOA in the Visian ICL group may account for the superior quality of vision seen at low luminance2

At an average correction as low as 6.0D the custom LASIK procedure induces higher order aberrations (HOA) that can impact quality of vision

• The LASIK procedure increased HOA by over 60%2

Low luminance visual acuity and contrast sensitivity signifi cantly improved following the Visian ICL procedure, and were signifi cantly better than those observed after Wavefront optimized LASIK

• Even at 6.0D the custom LASIK procedure increased total higher order aberrations by over 60%2

• The Visian ICL demonstrates superior low luminance visual acuity with a signifi cant improvement of 1.5 lines1

• The Visian ICL demonstrated greater improved contrast sensitivity compared to wavefront guided LASIK in low light luminance1

• Lower level of HOA in the Visian ICL group may account for the superior quality of vision

seen at low luminance2

This capability is clearly important to younger more active people that take part in activities of low light conditions
