supportofintegratedpestmanagementsystems.Domestically,heconcentratesonbiological,socialandeconomicissuesinintegratedpestmanagement,beemanagementandpollination,pestmanagementinunder-servedurbanneighborhoodsandfruitIPM.Internationally,hehashadprojectsinSouthAsia,SoutheastAsia,EasternEuropeandNorthAfricaprimarilydesigningandtestingIPMapproachesintropicalvegetables,IPMinformationsystemsandimpactanalysis.
AsIPMCoordinatorforPennsylvaniaCooperativeExtension,herepresentsandpromotesIPMwithfederal,stateandmunicipalgovernments.HealsorepresentsPennsylvaniainstateandfederalpolicy-makingbodiesonpestmanagementissues,andhecoordinatesIPMinschoolsandurbanenvironments.

DrAbderrahimOuarghidihasoverdecadeofexperienceworkinginsustainabledevelopmentandconservation.Heisbeeninvolvedinresearchon:conservationofnaturalresources,traditionalecologicalknowledge,medicinalplants,genderandnaturalresourcesmanagement,communityprotectedareas.Hisworkindevelopmentandresearcharebothdrivenbyparticipatoryapproaches.HehasconductedtraininginparticipatorymethodsandapproacheswithuniversitiesandgovernmentalorganizationsacrossMorocco.Hehadextensiveexperienceinmonitoringandevaluationofresearchanddevelopmentprojects.HehasaPhDinEthnoecologyandConservationfromtheUniversityofCadiAyyadinMarrakech,Morocco.

Dr.Powell’sresearchexaminesthesocial,culturalandenvironmentaldriversofhumannutrition,dietandfoodsecurity.Specifically,herresearchisfocusedontherelationshipbetweenbiodiversityandhumannutrition:howdopeopledrawonwildandagriculturalresourcesanddiversitytoimprovedietarydiversity,foodsecurityandnutrition?Muchofherrecentresearchexamineshowlandscapestructureandbiodiversityfromdifferentland-usetypesinfluencehumandietandnutrition.Sheisinterestedinhowtheconceptofhealthyfoodenvironments,whichhasbeenwidelyexploredinurbananddevelopedcountrysettings,canbeappliedinruralAfricansettingstounderstanddietarychoice.
Whileavailabilityandaccessibilityarewidelyacknowledgedasimportantaspectsofthefoodenvironmentthatinfluencedietarychoice,sheisalsospecificallyinterestedinthe(oftenoverlooked)socialandculturalaspectsoffoodenvironments.Sheusebothquantitativeandqualitativemethods.Drawingonqualitative,ethnographicandparticipatorymethods,herresearchusesEcohealthandComplexSystemsapproachestoexaminesocio-culturalfactorsthatmediatepeoples’relationshipwithanduseoftheirenvironmentstomeettheirlivelihoodneeds.

[email protected]’sresearchprogramfocusesontwosubstantiveareas.First,heexaminestherelationshipbetweenenvironmentalchange,demographicbehavior,andeconomicdevelopment,primarilyinlow-andmiddle-incomecountries.Hiscurrentprojectsexaminetheeffectofclimateshocksoninternalmigrationandlivelihoods.ThesecondareaofresearchfocusesonpovertyandinequalityintheUnitedStates.Recentandongoingstudieshaveanalyzedpovertydynamicsamongnewbornchildren,ethno-racialinequality,andtheworkingpoor.

Dr.Jensen’sresearchinterestsarefoundwithinthreebroadareas.Thefirstissocialstratificationwithemphasisonpoverty,employmentandunderemployment,andinformalworkandotherhouseholdeconomicsurvivalstrategies.Muchofthisworkfocusesonruralpopulationsandrural-urbandifferences.Dr.Jensen’ssecondareaofinterestisdemographywithspecialattentiontomigrationandimmigration.Finally,I'malsointerestedinthesociologyofeconomicdevelopmentwithafocusonLatinAmerica.
Whilehedoesnothaveaformalextensionappointment,hedoesenjoyopportunitiestoofferpresentationstocommunitygroups,advocacyorganizationsandothers.InrecentyearshehasgivenoutreachpresentationsonsuchtopicsasthedemographyofPennsylvania,andimmigrantsinnewdestinations.
Dr.MargreetvanderBurgissenioruniversitylecturerandresearcherGenderstudiesoffood,agriculturalandruralresearchanddevelopmentatWageningenUniversity,Netherlandssince2002.From1984onwardsMargreethasbeenactiveinthefieldof(rural)genderstudies,especiallyfocusedonfarmwomenandgenderinruralandagriculturaldevelopment(programming)processes.Genderisconsideredinintersectionwithothersocialdimensions.OvertheyearssheexpandedherfocusfromNLtothegloballevel,fromhistorytothecontemporary.
ShegraduatedatNijmegenUniversity,NL(1985)insocialeconomichistorywithsocialsciencesanddevelopmentstudiescourses,andtaughttherewomen’shistoryand‘scienceandsociety’.From1989shewasatWageningenUniversityintheRuralHistoryGroupwhilecollaboratingwiththeGenderinAgricultureGroup.In2002shegotherPhDforherresearchoneducationandotherdevelopmentinstitutionsfortheintegrationofwomeninagriculturalmodernisationandagricultural-basedruraldevelopmentintheNetherlands,1863-1968.In2006shewasalsoRuralGenderStudiesGuestProfessorintheMariaGoeppert-MayerProfessoriateProgram,InstituteforRuralDevelopment,AgriculturalSciences,GeorgAugustUniversity,Goettingen,Germany.FromOct2015tillApril2016shewasvisitingscholarwithCarolynSachs,ProfessorinRuralSociologyandWomen’sStudiesatPennStateUniversityUSA.

Duringmystudies,Ifocusedmyresearchonfertilityanddevelopment,andwasprimarilyinterestedinmonitoringandevaluatingdevelopmentinterventions.AfterjoiningtheWorldBankasanEvaluationSpecialist,myareaofinterestbroadenedtoevaluatingdevelopmenttrainingprogramsaswell.Ialsooffertrainingonthemethodsandtechniquesofmonitoringandevaluationofdevelopmentinitiativesatcountrylevel.
Icurrentlyworkasanindependentconsultant,conductingmonitoringandevaluationstudiesofdevelopmentprogramsworldwide.MymainclientsconsistoftheWorldBankandUNagencies.AsateamleaderIcollaboratewithlocalconsultantsandhavecompletedseveralcountry-levelprogramevaluationsinMongolia,Myanmar,PapuaNewGuinea,Turkmensitan,andothercountriesfortheUnitedNationalPopulationFund(UNFPA).Thekeyfocusareasarepopulationanddevelopment,sexualandreproductivehealth,HIV/AIDS,youthandgenderequality.IalsoconducttrainingworkshopsforUN,theWorldBank,andotherdevelopmentprofessionalsonresults-basedmonitoringandevaluationmethods.
