An atlas of the transverse dimension, Craniofacial growth series, volume 37 Ahmed A. Basyouni and Surender K. Nanda Center for Human Growth and Development and Departments of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Needham Press, Ann Arbor, Mich; 2001; 200 pages; $75.

The authors are to be commended for gathering, measuring, and computing sufficient information to fill 200 pages with figures, tables, growth curves, and diagrams. The longitudinal

normative data should bridge the gap between lateral cephalometric data and the transverse dimension, leading to a clearer understanding of craniofacial growth. The scope of the data is vast, particularly in the

light of the current interest in arch expansion and the recent advances in 3-dimensional craniofacial mapping. The book represents a major contribution to craniofacial biology.
