“A negative mind will never give you a positive life.

A positive mind looks for ways it can be done; a negative mind looks for ways it can’t be

done.”

Dear DPS Dehradun Families,

It's hard to believe that it's already the end of May! The time is just flying by. First of all, I

would like to thank you all for your participation in the April Parent/Teacher Orientation

Conferences. We are so glad to be in this partnership with you and look forward to a very

successful year.

Thank you for the support I have received earlier, and I am thrilled to be a part of a school with

a legacy, history, and commitment to student success. Parents, you are vital partners to our

work. As a parent of two children myself, I know the struggles of balancing professional and

family life. I know you will continue to support our school and provide parental support that is

necessary to sustain high academic standards in an environment conducive to personal, social,

and emotional success.

You have been kept abreast of the happenings in our school through my monthly ‘letter to the

parents’ in the School Newsletter as well as through the local newspapers.

Our school’s aim is to provide an education of the highest quality, blending the resources of the

home, school, and society. We are committed to empowering students to reach their full

potential with rigorous academic standards. We develop confident children who can

collaborate, create, and communicate in a constantly evolving world. My commitment is to

support our staff, students, and society to make this mission come to life.

Education creates opportunities for students to achieve their highest potential and to become

the best versions of themselves. We must collectively take the journey to foster the social,

emotional, and educational growth our students need to be the outstanding and productive

members of our society.

It is disheartening to see many students, who are academically bright, hesitate to participate in

all activities giving the excuse that they will hamper in their studies. Time management is a

must and students must be encouraged by the parents to come forward and make optimum

use of the opportunities given to them

Delhi Public School, Dehradun is already a dynamic place of progress, learning and growth. As a

result of everyone’s contributions, our school has a recognition given to high performing

schools. We, as educators, will continue to learn, grow, collaborate, and plan to optimize our

learning on behalf of our students.

I would like to also wish you a very happy and peaceful summer vacations. It's a wonderful

time of year to get together with friends and family to get together and be thankful for all of

the wonderful people in our lives.

Again, I wish everyone a wonderful, restful and enjoyable summer holiday!

Be safe, have fun and don't forget to come back to school when the summer is over......

"Always remember to fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose."

Sincerely,

Principal, DPS Dehradun

WHY IS ART EDUCATION IMPORTANT?

Educators discover that painting becomes much more than just a simple activity. Painting is a way for

children to do many important things: convey ideas, express emotion, use their senses, explore colour,

explore process and outcomes, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences.

Children form many connections and ideas of how the painting process works for them, as well as what

they enjoy about it. Watch a child painting and you will see a fully engaged child. While we listen and

observe, we may begin to understand the way a child perceives his world, his developmental abilities,

and his needs or interests.

• It's been proven that early exposure to visual art, music, or drama promotes activity in the brain.

• Art helps children understand other subjects much more clearly—from math and science, to

language arts and geography.

• Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a process that aids in the development of

self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation.

• Participating in art activities helps children to gain the tools necessary for understanding human

experience, adapting to and respecting others' ways of working and thinking, developing

creative problem-solving skills, and communicating thoughts and ideas in a variety of ways.

Drawing is one of the most important activities students can do. Drawing not only provides the basis for

other creative activities - like painting, sculpture and printmaking - but it also provides a direct link with

reading, writing and especially mathematics. The connection between drawing and geometric shapes

and measurements simply cannot be denied. And do you know what else? Drawing is the single most

accessible form of art available. All you need is a pencil and a sheet of paper.

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.

Imagination encircles the world

‘A picnic is more than eating a meal; it is a pleasurable state of mind’

It was time for fun and frolic yet again as the students of Classes IV to VII enjoyed a joyous

day at the Crystal World. The extravaganza began with assembling in the ground and children

settled in the buses according to their groups which were already allotted to them along with

their group teacher.

Post lunch children were allowed to go in the water park which they eagerly waited for. They

were thrilled to have water rides and also enjoyed the rain dance. It was a day well spent for

students of classes IV to VIII. It was a break from the humdrum routine of the everyday life

that let everybody yearning for more.

The teachers themselves created bonding with their children by enjoying rides with them. The

older students took care of the younger ones as they felt sense of responsibility. The picnic was

thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

In school with other activities, picnic has its own specific importance to provide special

pleasure and serenity in tough scheduled student life. A picnic is a short trip for pleasure to a

beautiful place. Picnics add spice to our life. They provide the much sought after relief from our

routine life.

They refresh tired nerves. Picnic gives students a temporary relief from their studies. After

enjoying a picnic they feel fresh and renewed vigor. Not only this, students get to know one

another and teachers get know their students. Altogether to say it’s a short retreat.

Outdoor education, training and recreation promote active learning through direct personal experience

and offer excitement, fun and adventure within a framework of safety.

Methods used include skills-focused learning, problem solving, team building and self-reliant journeys

and activities, with residential experience an especially valued feature.

Outdoor activities provide valuable alternative, often non-competitive, avenues for achievement, as well

as opportunities to develop independence and self-reliance. Through successfully facing up to the

challenges which outdoor activities provide, overcoming fears and apprehensions along the way, young

people make major strides in confidence, with implications for all aspects of their development.

Our relationship with the environment is a key issue facing tomorrow’s citizens.

Active learning and adventure outdoors introduces young people to the environment in a way which

develops understanding appreciation, awe, wonder and respect. It fosters sensitivity to the

environment, helps young people to see themselves in a global context and helps to develop citizens

with an awareness of the need for sustainable use of the world’s natural resources.

Tomorrow’s successful citizens will possess the adaptability to cope with a rapidly changing world of

work and the responsibility to be an effective member of a community.

Challenging outdoor experiences promote the development of communication, problem solving and

decision making skills which have currency across a range of occupations. They encourage a positive

"opting in" and "can do" attitude. Young people’s horizons are broadened, new challenges come to be

relished rather than shunned, and perseverance and determination are reinforced. Values and attitudes

developed in a context of shared endeavour help to form a sound basis for responsible citizenship.

On May 14, 2016, astronomy clubs, planetariums, and other groups of sky lovers band together

to share the wonders and excitement of astronomy with their communities. The theme of

Astronomy Day is “Bringing Astronomy to the People,” and amateur astronomers and science

fans the world over can hardly wait to share their excitement about the sky with the general

public.

Doug Berger, then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California, founded

this annual event in 1973 as a way of drawing attention to the science and the hobby through

exhibits and activities at urban centers. Since then, the celebration has mushroomed in size and

scope. Hundreds of astronomy clubs, observatories, museums, colleges, and planetariums

worldwide now host special Astronomy Day events. Delhi Public School, Dehradun also

celebrated the day with Quiz & presentations about the related theme.
