Operations Management Is Time Consuming

Would like to simplify OS installation and deployment

Would like to recover from failures in less time with less effort

Does operations management cost you time and effort with increasing numbers of machines?

Page 2 © NEC Corporation 2011

Would like all terminals to be updated daily

DeploymentManager offers you to reduce total operations management cost through remote management under the

guidance of administrators without creating work on the managed machine side!

Minimized Patch Management!Complete edition for forced installation of in-demand patches

Revolutionary Patch Installation with DeploymentManager

PointsPoints

Covers All Machines

Minimizes Operations

Manages using unique distribution method, independent of power & right status. Can be efficiently installed to all machines.

Only uploading patches to be distributed to a dedicated server.Automatic classification of machines that need installation and those that don’t, distribution and installation using automatic update function (Automatic update not for Linux)

Management

Effortless System Recovery

Backs up disk image as is.Achieves fast backup/restore performance using proprietary technology!

Fast

Restores backup image as is, making complicated restore steps unnecessary. No need to worry about human errors like “wrong steps” or “missing driver and other restore operations.”

Reliable

Time and effort are very different between traditional recovery methods and the DeploymentManager!

Traditional Recovery Methods

PointsPoints

Page 7 © NEC Corporation 2011

Only backup data run by DeploymentManager is required at restoration!→ Also, no media is needed.Backup data in drive units requires a drive size same as the backup source in the target HDD and a formatted drive in the same way as the backup source at restore, making preparations before recovery necessary.

Recovery in 1 operation! No work & no procedural errors

 Multicast/Unicast can be selected

Introduction to Functions — Distribution Methods

Various Distribution Functions

Multicast

Can be flexibly applied to a variety of customer environments by selecting Multicast/Unicast according to the network environment used.

PointsPoints

Common Functions

Page 20 © NEC Corporation 2011

Multicast• Distributes image to all machines together while reducing network load.

→ Can distribute to all machines with 1 image distribution.

Unicast• High reliability TCP/IP communications

→ Can distribute to different network machines without setting network devices.

[ [ Can control time differential distribution and distribution data volumes beforehandCan control time differential distribution and distribution data volumes beforehand ]]• Considering the network load, the number of machines distributed simultaneously can be regulated

even when multiple machines are being distributed. The amount of data distributed at this time can also be set.

New feature from Ver6.1

▐ Searching DPM Server from DPM Client In case that DPM Client can not connect to DPM Server due to DPM Server IP address change,

DPM Client searches DPM Server automatically, which realize to migrate from test environment to production environment without any setting on DPM Client side.In addition to that DPM Client searches DPM Server even if DPM Server IP address is not set during DPM Client installation process. By this feature, master image created one DPM Server can be used from another DPM Server if you make master image doesn’t include IP address information.

▐ DPM port customization You can modify port number for DPM connection, which enable to avoid port confliction

with another application. You can modify port number changing specific file in DPM Server. Port number used by DPM Client is also managed on that file. DPM Client connects to DPM Server Port number used by DPM Client is also managed on that file. DPM Client connects to DPM Server using default port number on booting process. In case DPM Client can not connect to DPM Server, DPM Client downloads port number configuration file(Port.ini) and then get port number in connection with DPM Server using Well-known port.

▐ Full sector option on backup/restore scenario can be set from web console.▐ Multiple machine group or scenario group can be deleted at one time.▐ Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 is supported as managed machine.▐ Take over ‘Deply-OS setting information’ in process of DPM Server version up.
