The Worship of Father, Son & Holy SpiritOctober 30, 2011

The Lord’s Day

Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passedbefore the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lordrichly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

Lo, He Comes WesleyEvery eye shall now behold Him, robed in dreadful majesty.

Those who set at naught and sold Him, pierced and nailed Him to the tree.Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, shall the true Messiah see.

Lo! He comes with clouds descending, once for our salvation slain.Thousand, thousand saints attending, swell the triumph of His train.

Alleluia! Alleluia! God appears on earth to reign.

Lo! He comes in glory shining, saints arise and meet your King.Glorious captain of salvation, “welcome, welcome” hear them sing.

Shouts of triumph, Shouts of triumph, make the heav’ns with echoes ring.

Now redemption long expected, see in solemn pomp appear! All his saints by man rejected, now shall meet Him in the air.

Alleluia! Alleluia! See the day of God appear.

Yea amen let all adore Thee, high on thine eternal throne.Savior take the power and glory, claim the kingdom for thine own.

O Come quickly, O come quickly, alleluia, come Lord, come!

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipImagine the Lord designs and manufactures all kinds of cars: a sports car that does 185 m.p.h., a muscular truck, a spaciousvan, and an efficient family sedan. The maker will not berate the van for failing to go 120 m.p.h. he does not blame thesports car for poor gas mileage. Each car is pleasing when it performs the task that suits its design. When the sports car flies, when the van carries seven passengers safely, when the truck hauls timber and boulders, when the sedan travels the milesefficiently, the designer is pleased. Raw power or productivity matters little. The Lord is pleased with us when we do whatwe can with the abilities he gives. ~ Daniel Doriani

To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. ~ The Lord Jesus

Is it not the number of our talents that matters; it is the use that we make of them. He does not expect as much from theman with two talents as from the one to whom he has given five; what he does expect is that they should both be faithfulover the few things he has committed to their care. ~ C.H. Spurgeon

The Lord Gives Us His PresenceResponsive Call to Worship2 Psalm 34:1, 3I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let usexalt his name together!

Prayer of Adoration & Praise

Hymn of Praise

All Glory, Laud, and Honor TheodulphAll glory, laud, and honor to Thee, Redeemer, King,

To Whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David's royal Son,

Who in the Lord's name comest, the King and blessed One!

The people of the Hebrews with palms before Thee went; Our praise and prayer and anthems before Thee we present:

To Thee, before Thy passion, they sang their hymns of praise; To Thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.

Thou didst accept their praises; accept the prayers we bring,Who in all good delightest, Thou good and gracious King!

All glory, laud, and honor to Thee, Redeemer, King,To Whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!

Epistle Reading: Gifts of Grace Romans 12:3-8For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, butto think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we havemany members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, andindividually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: ifprophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts,in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

The Lord Gives Us His Grace

Call to Confession: Psalm 51:1Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love.

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.2

Page 4: DPC Bulletin - October 30, 2011

God, Be Merciful to Me RedheadGod, Be Merciful to me, on Thy grace I rest my plea;

Plenteous in compassion Thou, blot out my transgressions now;Wash me, make me pure within, cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin.

My transgressions I confess, grief and guilt my soul oppress;I have sinned against Thy grace and provoked Thee to Thy face.

I confess Thy judgment just, speechless, I Thy mercy trust.

I am evil, born in sin; Thou desirest truth within.Thou alone my Savior art, teach Thy wisdom to my heart;

Make me pure, Thy grace bestow, wash me whiter than the snow.

Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true.Cast me not away from Thee, let Thy Spirit dwell in me.

Thy salvation’s joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart.

The Sinner’s Boast Galatians 6:14Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

Indescribable StoryFrom the highest of heights to the depths of the sea,

Creation’s revealing your majesty.From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring,Every creature unique in the song that it sings;

All exclaiming,

Indescribable, uncontainable,You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.

You are amazing God!All powerful, untamable,

Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim,You are amazing God!

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?Or seen Heavenly storehouses laden with snow?

Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light,Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?

None can fathom,

Incomparable, unchangeable,You know the depths of my heart and you love me the same.

You are amazing God! You are amazing God!3

I Need Thee Every Hour HawksI need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord

No tender voice like Thine, can peace afford.I need Thee every hour, stay Thou near by,

Temptations lose their power, when Thou art nigh.

O bless me now, my Savior,I come to Thee.

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain.Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

I need Thee every hour, teach me Thy willAnd Thy rich promises, in me fulfill.

I need Thee every hour, Most Holy One.O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.

XCVIII. On Doing Something Courageous and EpicMatthew 25:14-30

We Respond The Apostles’ Creed4

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. Hesuffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again fromthe dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will cometo judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection ofthe body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord Gives Us His SacramentThe Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Satisfied DigernessAll my life long I had panted for a drink from some cool spring

That I hoped would quench the burning of the thirst I felt within.

Hallelujah! He has found me, the One my soul so long has craved!Jesus satisfies all my longings through his blood I now am saved.

Feeding on the filth around me ’till my strength was almost gone;Longed my soul for something better, only still to hunger on.

Poor I was and sought for riches, something that would satisfy; But the dust I gathered ’round me only mocked my soul’s sad cry.

Well of water ever springing, Bread of Life so rich and free;Untold wealth that never faileth, my Redeemer is to me.

3 4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.4 Although not written by the apostles, the Apostles’ Creed is a concise summary of their teachings. It originated as a baptismal confession, probably inthe second century, and developed into its present form by the sixth or seventh century.

The Lord Gives Us His BlessingBenediction5 Ephesians 2:8-10By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, sothat no one may boast. For you are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God preparedbeforehand, that you should walk in them. Go in peace.

Blessed Be the Lord God Almighty FittsBlessed be the Lord God Almighty,Who was, and is, and is to come.

Blessed be the Lord God Almighty,Who reigns forevermore.

5 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.
