Its mission – to promote the long-term health and effectiveness of the container port industry as part of the maritime supply chain. This year the Go Green campaign planned to see the world’s top four terminal operators - DP World, Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), PSA International and APM Terminals and the Shanghai International Port, China, linking arms to make our planet a better place to live. Campaign to address three issues – Re-use, Recycle and Climate Change and Community - through different activities that will be run locally by individual Business Units.

It’s time to act. Let’s “Go Green”

The 2015 Go Green campaign is an initiative of the environmental section of the Global Ports Group (GPG), an alliance of leading port operators. Its mission – to promote the long-term health and effectiveness of the container port industry as part of the maritime supply chain. This year the Go Green campaign planned to see the world’s top four terminal operators - DP World, Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), PSA International and APM Terminals and the Shanghai International Port, China, linking arms to make our planet a better place to live.

Campaign to address three issues – Re-use, Recycle and Climate Change and Community - through different activities that will be run locally by individual Business Units.

DP World Nhava Sheva planned various initiatives under “Go Green” campaign involving employees, contractors, external truck drivers and students from local school to extend the awareness. We invited APMT to participate in the initiatives we planned during the week.

We planned the initiatives –

Tree Plantation outside the gate Awareness campaigns at local School – Phunde School, Aware School, St Mary

School. Beach Cleaning – Local beach Cleaning the Terminal – Swachhata Abhiyan Awareness campaigns within the terminal, outside gate, at NSIGT project site. Awareness to employees through emails, posters display.

Highlights

School Visits –

15 Sept 2015 - T. H. Wajekar School, Phunde, Uran( participated by 370 students)

14 Sept 2015 - Ramachandra Mhatre School, Aware, Uran (participated by 50 students)

14 Sept 2015 - St. Mary School, Uran.(Participated by 275 students)

The awareness campaigns covered the topics on reduce, recycle, reuse, the importance of energy saving, our contributions for pollution control by reducing the carbon emission, use of energy efficient appliances, planting more trees.

To make the session more interesting, a quiz was arranged and the winners were provided with prizes. Also all the participants were gifted with a token prize.

Various posters were displayed within the terminal for awareness on reduce, recycle and reuse concept. The posters design was basis on the ideas shared by DP World GSE. These posters were also shared to employees through daily safety thought e-mails.

Tree Plantation –

As a commitment to the protection of environment, a special drive is take to plant trees outside the gate at the road dividers between the roads towards NSICT and Land Lord Terminal. 50 palm trees were planted as a part of GO Green drive. The opportunity was used to spread the awareness regarding the environment protection with the gathering and the ways of contribution to save environment. The event was arranged on 15th and 16th Sept 2015.

RSEA and Regional Ops Head also got involved in the tree plantation.

Swachhata Abhiyan -

Swachhata Abhiyan was arranged on 14th Sept 2015 in the terminal with an initiative of cleaning the terminal premises along with the housekeeping staff. The opportunity was used to spread the awareness on environmental protection and importance of good housekeeping to support the environment care with the gathering.

Beach Cleaning –

After initiating the Swachhata Abhiyan at terminal, the drive was extended to outside the gate and the terminal representatives visited local beach at Uran (village Nagaon) on 15th Sept 2015 to get the area clean. The beach was cleaned and the debris was transferred to the dustbins at the beach for disposal. 32 staff from NSICT participated in the campaign. Around 30 kgs of debris was removed from the beach by the team.

Tool box talks - Various tool box talks were arranged at different parts of work area to spread the awareness on GO Green campaign with a message of environment protection by promoting reduce, recycle and reuse.

The areas covered were contractor’s rest area, external truck drivers gathering, parking plaza outside the gate, NSIGT project site, survey point. These awareness campaigns are planned during the entire week.
