Page 1: Your next steps - a guide for applicants

Next steps…STEP 1 Offers and Decisions Once you have received all your offers, you will need to make a ‘Firm’ and an ‘Insurance’ choice. The firm acceptance should be the institution you want to go to. The insurance acceptance is the second choice in case you do not meet the requirements of your firm choice.

As soon as you have accepted a firm offer from us you can apply for a place in our accommodation. The sooner you apply the more choice you will have of where to live.

We will stay in touch with you from time to time over the summer to remind you of important deadlines and keep you up to date with all we have to offer.

STEP 2 Results If your results meet all the conditions of your ‘Firm’ offer, the university will confirm your place. If you have not met all the conditions of your firm choice and you have not been accepted there, but have met the conditions of your ‘Insurance’ offer then that university will confirm a place.

If you have firmly accepted an offer from us we will send you a text on results day. We will also send you a letter to confirm your place.

If you have not met all the conditions of your firm choice or insurance choice, then you may enter Clearing.

STEP 3 ClearingThis process starts on A Level Results day. Clearing is the opportunity for applicants who are not holding a place at a university to communicate directly with universities which have places available and discuss their options and suitability for a course based on the applicant’s qualifications.

We have staff on hand seven days a week after results to answer calls from applicants looking for a place and to help get students into places on our courses.

The university or college will inform the applicant whether or not they can offer them a place. If you decide to accept the place you will need to confirm via UCAS Track. The University will then send a confirmation letter.

STEP 4 Arriving at University Once you have got a place you can breathe a big sigh of relief. But the planning is not over just as yet. On the last leg, you have to consider things like finances, accommodation, transport, things to pack, and most importantly, induction and registration dates. Universities should send you all this information as soon as you have confirmed your place.

If you decide to study at Bedfordshire you will get a welcome pack from us with all the information you need to get started. If you have any questions don’t forget you can visit the FAQ page of our website which has lots of information for new students about registration, induction and timetables:

There are different dates that you should be aware of when applying and waiting for decisions from your chosen universities and colleges. You have already done the most important thing which is to get your application in on time.

Timetable for 2013 applications

25 February 2013 UCAS Extra Opens – you may be entitled to use UCAS Extra if you have: • already made five choices • received decisions from all these choices • and either had no offers or declined all the offers you have received.

31 March 2013 If UCAS receive an application by 15 January, the universities and colleges should aim to have sent their decisions by this date (but they can take longer).

8 May 2013 If UCAS receive all decisions from your universities/colleges by 31 March, you need to reply to any offers by this date (unless you are applying through Extra). If UCAS don’t receive your replies, it will decline the offers on your behalf.

9 May 2013 This is the deadline for Universities to make decisions on applications received by 15 January.

6 June 2013 You need to reply to any offers by this date (unless you are applying through Extra). If UCAS don’t receive your replies, they will decline the offers on their behalf.
