industries contribute about 24% of the GDP. The

Government should give stimulus to these sectors

so that growth can be created in other sectors. To

keep the growth rate of the country at 7% over the

next couple of years, the economy would require 1

to 2 trillion USD”

EPC Conferences 2009 Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) industry provides a range of services in design and construction of plants for chemicals, petrochemicals, fertilizers, refinery and pharmaceutical industries. The goal of any EPC agreement is to manage the risk, prevent cost over-runs, and deliver the project on time. The conference discussed the challenges and opportunities in the turbulent times for EPC contractors be it hydrocarbon sector or infrastructure such as tighter budgets, schedules, global competition, very large project sizes, overloaded vendors, volatility in commodity prices and single point responsibility. The modus of executing the EPC contract involving the right enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and EPC LSTK approach for mega projects, cost conversion to LSTK and LSTK contract conditions were also discussed.

“This current economic recession is not driven by the demand-supply situation but financial crisis. Government spending on stimulus may meet 50-60 percent of current requirements. The type of money required in India to maintain the

momentum is of the order a trillion dollars”

floods in the rivers, affecting the production of food grains. Rise in temperature even by 2% will

make the sea level to rise, contaminating the ground water. India has 4 % of world water resource and houses 17% of world population. With increasing population, water is going to be a scare commodity and hence needs to be recycled. We also need to think about rain water harvesting and desalination. In India 80% of water is used for agriculture. More than one third of the agriculture is carried out by using ground water, which is depleting at a fast rate. India has vast amount of irrigational land and our irrigation efficiency is only 16%. Hence we need to increase our efficiency of water management.”

German Day Seminar 2009

German Day Seminar 2009CHEMTECH Foundation and VDMA coorganized seminar on “German Technology for Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry”. Walter Stechel, Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Indian industry is on a fast growth track and is emerging as one of the favored destinations for supply of plant and process machinery by German equipment manufacturers. The number of participants from Germany has increased with each event in the series. CHEMTECH 2009 witnessed record number of participation from Germany.
