Welcome to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music!

Thank you for joining us for a season of world-class music in a variety of genres, performed by our nationally-recognized faculty members, resident ensembles, and exciting guest artists!

It’s chilly outside so we recommend warming up with some some smokin’ hot Latin rhythms performed by our newest resident ensemble Orquesta Tumbao, plus some of the best jazz in town! Our Friday Night Jazz Jams provide opportunities to perform and hear other jazz musicians in the Milwaukee area. On the classical side, composer Harold Meltzer will be joining Prometheus Trio for their February concert and talk. Looking ahead to March, our Piano Faculty presents an afternoon of musical wonder and pre-performance arts activity with a family concert featuring Babar and Mother Goose.

If you’re in the mood to dance, we have two special events designed just for you! On Valentine’s Day, “Noche Latina” (Latin Night), an evening of Latin Music and Dance featuring our newest resident ensemble Orquesta Tumbao, takes place at the United Community Center. On May 4 we return to the 1940s with “Swing!” and our Conservatory Big Band at the Astor Hotel Ballroom. On the third Friday of every other month you can also get dance lessons and hear great music with the Vista del Lago Social Club. There’s something for everyone at the Conservatory!

Our Annual Campaign continues this spring and we ask for your financial support as we serve nearly 20,000 infants, children, and adults in our community. Your contribution provides financial aid, merit scholarships, musician residencies in schools, music therapy programs in service agencies, and so much more. Eric Jacobson Quartet: Music of Tom Harrell

Praised by Newsweek for his pure melodic genius, Tom Harrell is widely recognized as one of the most creative and uncompromising jazz instrumentalists and composers of our time. Even with a discography of over 260 recordings and a career that spans more than four decades, Harrell has managed to stay fresh and current as he continues to actively record and tour around the world.

The Eric Jacobson Quartet honors this jazz icon, who inspires legions of musicians and devoted fans.

Eric Jacobson, trumpet WCM faculty member since 2008. Eric Jacobson is a professional trumpet player, clinician, composer and private instructor residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Eric freelances in the Milwaukee and Chicago area playing in groups such as Luis Diaz Quintet, D’CalleSon, De La Buena, Kings Go Forth, Tristan Royalty Squad, Orquesta Tumbao, We Six and leading his own jazz Quintet. Eric has been fortunate to experience performances and lessons with well-known artists, such as Maynard Ferguson, Slide Hampton, Brian Lynch, Jim Rotondi, Tim Hagans,Tito Puente Jr., Joan Rivers, Eric Benet, Mayer Hawthorne, Robert Randolph and Wynton Marsalis. Eric was recently recognized in Jazzscope magazine By David Hoffman as having “[a] gorgeous round sound on both the trumpet and flugelhorn” and being “on his way to being a jazz giant.” In 2001 Eric released his debut jazz CD entitled Inspiration which features some of Milwaukee’s best jazz musicians as well as New York trumpet sensation Brian Lynch. Eric released his second album in 2011 called Two A.M. Live at the Jazz Estate and his third album will be released in Fall 2012, featuring Brian lynch and piano legend Barry Velleman. Eric has been busy performing and touring around the world the past two years with Soul band Kings Go Forth featured in “Time” as being 2011’s best Soul band.

Paul Silbergleit, guitar WCM faculty member since 1996. B.A., Oberlin College. An accomplished jazz composer as well as performer, Mr. Silbergleit has played clubs, concert halls, and festivals throughout the area as both a leader and a sideman. He has appeared with Jack McDuff, Jon Faddis, Richie Cole, Tierney Sutton, Melvin Rhyne, Brian Lynch, David Hazeltine, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, among others. Both his 1996 debut CD Silberglicity (on which other Conservatory faculty members are featured) and his 2003 release, My New Attitude, have made it onto the jazz charts with nationwide airplay, and he can also be heard on the 2005 We Six CD Bird Say. Mr. Silbergleit also teaches at Cardinal Stritch University, and is a featured instructor in Hal Leonard’s Guitar Licks Goldmine DVD series.

Jeff Hamann, bass WCM faculty member since 1998. A member of the Conservatory’s We Six jazz sextet, Mr. Hamann attended the Wisconsin Conservatory

of Music, winning first place in the Jazz Studies Scholarship competition four years in a row. He has worked as a clinician and jazz festival judge in the Milwaukee, Kenosha and Waukesha public schools as well as at UW-Milwaukee, UW-Madison and UW-Green Bay. Performing with such well-known artists as Frank Morgan, Marlena Shaw, Steve Allen, and Eric Alexander, he has toured throughout the Midwest and has appeared at Jazz Yantra in Bombay, India. Jeff is also the bassist on

Michael Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know show, airing Saturdays on Wisconsin Public Radio and broadcast nationally on NPR stations. He can be heard on the 2005 We Six CD Bird Say.

David Bayles, drums WCM faculty member since 1997. B.F.A. Music Education UW-Milwaukee. A member of the Conservatory’s We Six, Mr. Bayles has worked with such jazz artists as Slide Hampton, Barry Harris, David Hazeltine, Vincent Herring, Brian Lynch, Jack McDuff, Bob Mintzer, Frank Morgan, James Moody, Jim Pugh, Melvin Rhyne, and Ernie Watts. Dave performs at jazz clubs and music festivals throughout the Midwest. Recording credits include the Luis Diaz Quintet (On the Edge), the Curt Hanrahan Quintet (Hang Time), the Juli Wood Quintet (Movin’ and Groovin’), and the We Six CD (Bird Say), Steve Wiest (Excalibur), Doug Lawrence (Kid’s Are Pretty People). Dave’s orchestral credits include timpani with the Rome Festival Orchestra and percussion with the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. As a clinician for Yamaha Music Corporation and Zildjian Cymbals, he travels and teaches widely throughout the U.S. and Canada. Dave also teaches percussion at UW-Parkside in Kenosha, WI., UW-Milwaukee, and Concordia University (Milwaukee).

Rubens QuartetThe Rubens Quartet—whose members come from the Netherlands, Israel and the US—has become one of the finest young quartets of its generation since being founded in 2000. The quartet has impressed audiences throughout its home country of the Netherlands and abroad, and is praised for its warm sound, remarkable sense of rhythm and harmony, and ability to communicate with an audience. Through its rich knowledge of string quartet culture, the mission of the Rubens Quartet is to combine the old with the new, by interpreting lesser known works of the past and present and placing them alongside the great standards of the quartet repertoire. The quartet plays in dance choreographies, connects literature and music, and initiates music theatre performances. In its concert programs, the ensemble regularly pairs classic with contemporary (Haydn with Dutilleux, Shostakovich with Roukens), and is dedicated to promoting new music, having worked closely with such composers as György Kurtág, Louis Andriessen and Sofia Gubaidulina.

Stefanie Jacob, pianist WCM faculty member since 1987. Stefanie Jacob made her solo debut with the Boston Pops at age 17 and her Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1984. An avid chamber

musician, she was twice awarded second prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and was awarded Indiana University’s Leo Weiner Prize for Chamber Music. Ms. Jacob has performed as a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and the Waukesha and Manitowoc Symphonies, and has appeared as a collaborating artist

on Milwaukee’s Artist Series at the Pabst and WFMT-Chicago’s nationally broadcast Dame Myra Hess Series. She has recorded for the Arundax, CRI, Fleur de Son and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music labels. A graduate of Harvard and Indiana Universities, Ms. Jacob taught at the University of Tampa from 1985 to 1987, and since then at the

Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, receiving an award for Excellence in Studio Teaching from the Milwaukee Civic Music Association in 2007. In addition to her work with the Prometheus Trio, she also performs as the Duo Coriolan with husband Scott, and as the Duo Cosi with violinist Susan Waterbury.

Jeanyi Kim, violin Jeanyi Kim is the Associate Concertmaster (Third Chair) of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, the Toronto native has performed in illustrious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre, Salle Pleyel and the Concertgebouw. She has been a Guest Assistant Leader of the London Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. The recipient of the Yale Bach Society Award and the Stuart Walker Memorial Scholarship, Kim holds a doctorate degree from Yale University, from which she also earned her MMA, MM, and BA degrees. Her major teachers include Erick Friedman, Kyung Yu, Berl Senofsky and Rebecca Henry. Dr. Kim has been a faculty member of the Elm City ChamberFest and the Eleazar de Carvalho Festival in Brazil. Alexander Mandl, violin Brazilian violinist and conductor, Alexander Mandl, maintains a diverse career as soloist, conductor, chamber and orchestra musician, and educator. A versatile musician, Mandl has performed worldwide at renowned halls, including Alice Tully, the Memorial of Latin America, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Carnegie Music Hall. As a soloist and orchestra musician, he has collaborated with notable conductors, such as Eleazar de Carvalho, Gunther Herbig, Claudio Santoro, Lawrence Leighton Smith, Robert Shaw, and Krzysztof Penderecki. Most recently, he has conducted and soloed with the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, and the Paraiba Symphony Orchestra. A dedicated and passionate chamber musician, Mandl has collaborated with eminent artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma, Jian Wang, Humberto Lucarelli, Erick Friedman, Sidney Harth, Nai-Yuan Hu, Aldo Parisot, Frank Morelli, João Carlos Martins, Amit Peled and Todd Levy. He is a founding member of the Philomusica Quartet, Yale Piano Trio, and Quintessence Piano Quintet, which performs in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, with live broadcast on WFMT, Chicago. Currently, Mandl is the Concertmaster of the Kenosha Symphony and the Beloit-Janesville Symphony orchestras, Assistant Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Conductor of the Elm City ChamberFest orchestra, Music Director/Conductor of the Lakeshore Youth Philharmonic, and guest conductor of the Paraiba Symphony in Brazil. A recipient of Andrew Carnegie Tradition Award, the Yale Alumni Award and the prestigious Ivan Galamian Award,

Dr. Mandl serves on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Elm City ChamberFest, the MIMU International festival in Brazil and performs at the Sunflower Music Festival. In 2002, Mandl recorded for CD Baby’s Heavenly Lullabies dedicated to the orphans of 9/11, produced in New York City, and J.S. Bach’s E major concerto with the UFPB Chamber Orchestra (Brazil) under the direction of maestro Sidney Harth.

A graduate of Carnegie Mellon, BFA; Yale University, MM and AD; and UW-Madison, DMA, Mandl has recently edited Leopoldo Miguez’s Violin Sonata Op. 14. Nathan Hackett, viola Violist Nathan Hackett is a proud member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. During the 2007-08 season, he served as its Co-Assistant Principal violist. He is Principal violist of both the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and Milwaukee Chamber

Orchestra. Also very active as a chamber musician, Mr. Hackett performs with many of Milwaukee’s leading musicians in recital series for the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Wisconsin Lutheran College and most recently Chamber Music Milwaukee, with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faculty and MSO musicians. While a student at UWM, Mr. Hackett studied viola with Jerry Horner and chamber music with members of the Fine Arts Quartet. Other influential teachers have been Peter Slowik and Burton Kaplan.

Adrien Zitoun, cello Cellist Adrien Zitoun joined the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in 2001. That year, as a member of the Eusia String Quartet, he was awarded the Gold medal at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. In his native land of France, Mr. Zitoun studied musicology at the University of Sorbonne in Paris for one year, before being accepted into the National Superior Conservatory of Music in Lyon, where he studied cello with Yvan Chiffoleau. At this time, he also played with the Ensemble Orchestral de Mâcon and Symphony Orchestra of Lyon-Villerbanne and taught at the Privas and Brignais School of Music. In 1996, he obtained scholarships that enabled him to continue his music studies in the United States. Here, Mr. Zitoun earned his Artist Diploma and a Masters of Music from Indiana University, where he studied with Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Janós Starker. An active teacher, Mr. Zitoun is on the faculty at Wisconsin Lutheran College, and has a handful of dedicated private students.

Studies and Multiple Woodwinds). Valuing diversity in music, Eric performs in a variety of styles from bebop to classical to pit orchestras to funk/ rock. Eric can be heard regularly in Milwaukee’s jazz venues such as The Jazz Estate and Caroline’s as well

He is also on the faculty of Wisconsin Lutheran College, Cardinal Stritch University and Alverno College. Mr. Davis can be heard on the We Six CD Bird Say.

B IOGR APHIES

Timothy Klabunde, violin WCM faculty member since 2005. Mr. Klabunde is the Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and has been an orchestra member since 1980. He was a violin and chamber music student of Leonard Sorkin, Abram Loft, Bernard Zaslav and George Sopkin (the Fine Arts Quartet) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mr. Klabunde has served as Concertmaster for the Milwaukee Ballet and Milwaukee Civic Orchestras and has appeared as violin soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and the Manitowoc Symphony. Chamber music appearances have included the Festival de Belles Artes in San Miguel, Mexico, live on WFMT Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Series, WPR broadcasts from Madison’s Elvejem and Chazen Art Museum and the Fourth Annual International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France. This year includes concerts at the Washington Island Music Festival and as a member of the Prometheus Trio at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Mr. Klabunde is an adjunct instructor of violin and a member of the Clarus piano trio at Cardinal Stritch University. Scott Tisdel, cello WCM faculty member since 2000. Associate Principal Cellist of the Milwaukee Symphony, has also served as Principal Cellist of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra since his arrival in Milwaukee in 1987, and has appeared as soloist with both ensembles, as well as with the Waukesha and Manitowoc Symphonies and the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra. Prior to his arrival in Milwaukee, Mr. Tisdel served as Principal Cello of the Florida Orchestra in Tampa and was a member of both the Oakland and San Jose Symphony Orchestras in California. In addition to being the founding cellist of the Prometheus Trio, he was a founding member of the Conservatory’s Paganini Trio and the Strings in the Mountains Chamber Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Mr. Tisdel has recorded for Arundax, CRI, Fleur de Son, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and Oris Records.

Stefanie Jacob, pianist WCM faculty member since 1987. Stefanie Jacob made her solo debut with the Boston Pops at age 17 and her Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1984. An avid chamber musician, she was twice awarded second prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and was awarded Indiana University’s Leo Weiner Prize for Chamber Music. Ms. Jacob has performed as a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Milwaukee

Chamber Orchestra and the Waukesha and Manitowoc Symphonies, and has appeared as a collaborating artist on Milwaukee’s Artist Series at the Pabst and WFMT-Chicago’s nationally broadcast Dame Myra Hess Series. She has recorded for the Arundax, CRI, Fleur de Son and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music labels. A graduate of Harvard and Indiana Universities, Ms. Jacob taught at the University of Tampa

from 1985 to 1987, and since then at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, receiving an award for Excellence in Studio Teaching from the Milwaukee Civic Music Association in 2007. In addition to her work with the Prometheus Trio, she also performs as the Duo Coriolan with husband Scott, and as the Duo Cosi with violinist Susan Waterbury.

Nathan Wesselowski, narratorWCM faculty member since 2010. Nathan received his Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas and his Master of Music in Voice Performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland, Ohio. Since moving to Milwaukee in 2002 Nathan has been writing operas with 6th graders at Tippecanoe School through Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s ACE program. Nathan has been performing opera and music theatre professionally for 16 years. Some of his credits include singing with Lyric Opera Cleveland, Cleveland Opera, Skylight Opera Theatre, Florentine Opera, The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, Ash Lawn Highland Summer Festival, Mill Mountain Theatre, The Fireside, In Tandem Theatre, First Stage Children’s Theatre, Bialystock and Bloom, and Sunset Playhouse. Nathan currently serves as Vice President to the Board of Directors at Milwaukee Opera Theatre, where he is seen regularly onstage as well.

Marcya Daneille, soprano WCM faculty member in the Jazz Institute beginning the summer of 2012. B.A. in Philosophy/Voice Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL; Patricia Roberts Harris Graduate Fellow in Voice Performance at the University of Iowa. Marcya is a cross-genre performer/educator who has worked in Jazz, Classical, Gospel and R&B. Marcya’s first voice teacher, Mrs. Barbara Herron of Olympia Fields, IL was highly influential in the early stages of her career. Her undergraduate voice studies were with Dr. Roger Scanlan and Mrs. Maria Lagios, both of Roosevelt University and graduate level studies at the University of Iowa were with Dr. Katherine Eberle and Dr. Rachael Joselson. Marcya’s voice coaches include Carlos Montane (Indiana University), Dr. George Shirley (University of Michigan), as well as Jazz pianist Burt Eckoff (Dakota Staton and Eddie Jefferson). Marcya completed private voice studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England as well as the Centro di Studi Italiani in Urbania, Italy. She performed principle and understudy roles with Lincoln Opera Chicago and Lyric Theater of Illinois and is the recipient of numerous awards, including Young Artist of the Year with the Lakeview Music Society in Chicago, the Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee as well as an Honorable Mention with N.A.T.S. (National Association of Teachers of Singing). Marcya maintained a popular voice studio in the New York City’s Times Square/Theater District for more than a decade and has performed on the stages of many New York venues such as Rose Theater (Jazz at Lincoln Center) and Alice Tully Hall, Miller Theater (Columbia University), the Apollo Theater, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar, Crash Mansion and a host of other popular Manhattan night spots. Marcya is the featured vocalist on various Dance Music and R&B tracks distributed in the U.S. and abroad. Her current solo CD Keeping it Simple was co-produced by Wycliffe Gordon. In addition to teaching, Marcya performs regularly for private events, benefits, club dates and is a sought after session singer.

Jenny Gettel, sopranoWCM faculty member since 2002. M.M. Vocal Performance, University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana; B.M. Choral Education, Lawrence University.

Ms. Gettel is soprano soloist with the chamber group Great Lakes Baroque. She also served as principal soprano soloist with Ensemble Musical Offering, where she worked with Stanley Ritchie, Marion Verbruggen, Joshua Rifkin, and other

Baroque specialists. Ms. Gettel has appeared as soloist with Present Music, Bach Chamber Choir, Racine Symphony, and Skylight Opera, where she performed in a cycle of Monteverdi operas under the direction of Stephen Wadsworth. Ms. Gettel taught voice at Alverno College, general music at New World Montessori, 81st Street School, and in the Whitefish Bay Public Schools. She is a founding member of the a cappella group Polyhymnia and

is director of contemporary music at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Mequon.

Kathleen Matts, sopranoWCM faculty member since 1993. M.M., Wisconsin Conservatory of Music; B.M., UW-Madison. Soprano and choral conductor. Soloed with most Milwaukee choruses and orchestras throughout Wisconsin, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and has performed many leading opera and musical theatre roles. Among her Skylight Opera Theatre roles are Eurydice/Musica roles in Wadsworth’s original “Orfeo,” “The Stronger” by H. Weisgall—an opera for solo soprano—and the title role in Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta.” Credits include: co-founder, Circlestage Musical Theatre Academy; Theatre Arts coordinator, Congregation Emanuel B’nai Jeshurun; Cardinal Stritch University Choir Director and voice instructor; and many years of directing music for area Lutheran Churches. Currently, she is Founder and Artistic Director of the Ad Hoc Vocal Ensemble.

Robin Pluer, mezzo-sopranoWCM faculty member since 2004. Ms. Pluer is a perennial WAMI Award winner as well as the Shepherd Express’ Best Female Vocalist. She has composed and performed music with Paul Cebar and John Sieger. With Juli Wood, Connie Grauer and Kim Zick (Mrs. Fun) she created The Rhythm Club to perform an eclectic array of jazz, pop, R&B and French songs. Robin collaborated with Peter Buffett, recording a song for his album, Songs from an East Side Attic. Robin combines vintage French chansons from the 20s, 30s and 40s with contemporary songs which she performs each year at Bastille Days in



Milwaukee. Robin studied with Martha Artis (at WCM), Jessie Hauck, and Sylvie Frere. She has also studied at L’Alliance Francaise of Manhattan and at UWM.

Kathleen Sonnentag, mezzo-sopranoWCM faculty member 1990-1999; 2006-present. A recipient of the prestigious Eleanor Steber Award for Excellence in the Concert Field, critics have described Kathleen’s mezzo-soprano voice as “Enveloping” and “Lovely.” She has been heard in Handel’s Messiah in over seventy-five performances from Chicago’s Orchestra Hall to Tokyo’s Hitomi Memorial Hall. She has sung with the Japan Shinsei Symphony, the Virginia Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic, and the Florida Symphony among others. Ms. Sonnentag is known locally for her appearances with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, the Florentine and the Skylight Opera Companies. Opera News praised her as “vocally commanding” for her role of Maddalena in Rigoletto and she received national acclaim for her role of Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro. Ms. Sonnentag was selected by Marilyn Horne to sing in her first master class series at Carnegie Hall. She was the First Place winner of the district Metropolitan Opera Auditions and a finalist in the International Belvedere Competition in Vienna. She is the featured soloist in dozens of recordings released by the Hal Leonard Corporation and was repertoire consultant for the Mezzo-Soprano Oratorio Anthology, published in 1994. Ms. Sonnentag currently serves as the Chair of the Voice Department at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.

J. Mark Baker, baritoneWCM faculty member since 2006. DMA, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; MM, Illinois State University; BM, University of Montevallo (AL). J. Mark Baker is an experienced singer, choral conductor, church musician, and music educator. As a professional member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus he sang under the direction of today’s leading conductors and was a recipient of the CSC’s Margaret Hillis Foundation scholarship for continuing vocal studies. Locally, he has been the baritone soloist in performances of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, Fauré’s Requiem, and Ariel Ramirez’s Misa Criolla, among others. As a music editor, Dr. Baker has prepared a five-volume Anthology of Italian Opera, a four-volume set of Mozart opera arias, and the collected songs of Maurice Ravel.

Phillip Pearl, baritoneWCM faculty member since 1994. M.M. Opera, University of Wisconsin; B.F.A. Music and Theatre, UW-Milwaukee. Mr. Pearl has studied with Karlos Moser, Kammersanger Jean Cox, Anna Reynolds, Mimmi Fulmer, Lenore Lynde Horsman and Richard Winter. He was one of eleven people chosen nationwide to participate in “Masterclasses in the Art of Singing Wagner,” has sung major operatic and oratorio roles throughout Wisconsin and has recorded for Wisconsin Public Radio and The Symposium for Church Composers. His directing credits include extensive work with children’s theatre and many opera company productions.

Mark Davis, piano WCM faculty member since 1992. B.S., with honors, Skidmore College. Mr. Davis is Chair of the Jazz Institute and a member of the Conservatory’s We Six. His WCM instructors included Adelaide Banaszynski and David Hazeltine. Later studies included work with jazz legend Barry Harris. He has performed with many jazz luminaries, including Jimmy Heath, Charles McPherson, Slide Hampton, Brian Lynch, and Frank Morgan. He is also on the faculty of Wisconsin Lutheran College, Cardinal Stritch University and Alverno College. Mr. Davis can be heard on the We Six CD Bird Say.

Teresa Drews, pianoWCM faculty member since 2003. MM in piano performance, Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University; BM cum laude in piano performance, Northwestern University. Member, Pi Kappa Lambda. At the Conservatory, Ms. Drews maintains a large private piano studio and also teaches group piano classes for children through adult. Through Conservatory Connections, she has taught general music and piano to K4-12th grade students at Holy Redeemer Christian

Academy and the Daniels-Mardak Boys and Girls Club, as well as serving as the piano teacher for the “Mature Musicians” program at Alexian Village. An active performer in the Milwaukee area, she often collaborates with WCM faculty and other area musicians and is the staff accompanist at Alverno College. She has studied with Sylvia Wang, Ann Schein, and Seth Knopp, and performed in master classes by David Burge and Menahem Pressler. Prior to moving to Milwaukee, Ms. Drews taught piano in Baltimore, Maryland at the Friends School and The Music Workshop.

Michael Thiele, pianoWCM faculty member since 1993. D.M.A. University of Iowa; M.M. Northwestern University; B.M. UW-Oshkosh. A frequent performer as both soloist and ensemble pianist, Dr. Thiele has taught piano at Iowa State University, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, University of Nebraska, Cornell College in Iowa, Northwestern University, University of Wisconsin Center-Fox Valley, University of Wisconsin Center-Fond du Lac, and Concordia University. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Milwaukee Music Teachers Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda.


Paul Silbergleit Trio: A Tribute to the Great Organ-Guitar Groups

The phenomenon of Hammond organ together with guitar, in trios or larger groups, has long been an exciting part of the jazz tradition. Our own regional virtuoso keyboardist Dan Trudell joins Conservatory faculty and We Six members Paul Silbergleit (guitar) and David Bayles (drums) to pay homage to Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Melvin Rhyne, Larry Young, and more!

Paul Silbergleit, guitar WCM faculty member since 1996. B.A., Oberlin College. An accomplished jazz composer as well as performer, Paul has played clubs, concert halls, and festivals throughout the area as both a leader and a sideman. He has appeared with Jack McDuff, Jon Faddis, Richie Cole, Tierney Sutton, Melvin Rhyne, Brian Lynch, David Hazeltine, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, among others. Both his 1996 debut CD Silberglicity (on which other Conservatory faculty members are featured) and his 2003 release, My New Attitude, have made it onto the jazz charts with nationwide airplay, and he can also be heard on the 2005 We Six CD Bird Say. Paul also teaches at Cardinal Stritch University, and is a featured instructor in Hal Leonard’s Guitar Licks Goldmine DVD series.

Dan Trudell, organDan Trudell has performed in a wide range of venues ranging from his funk/jam group the B3 Bombers, featuring the original “funky drummer” from James Brown fame Clyde Stubblefield, to having been featured as a Hammond Organ soloist with big band. His organ/piano trios are in constant demand. Dan’s organ style is greatly influenced by the greats who came before him, such as Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson, and Brother Jack McDuff. His piano style has been compared to Ahmad Jamal, McCoy Tyner and Red Garland. Dan has been voted “a rising star” by Downbeat Magazine and has recently toured with Matt Wilson’s “Arts and Crafts” quartet, featuring Terrell Stafford and Dennis Irwin, in Italy. Dan’s group the B3 Bombers was featured on the main stage

of the 2007 Chicago Jazz Festival. Dan holds the piano chair in the Chicago Jazz

Orchestra and has performed as a sideman with Aretha Franklin, Kenny Burrell, Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Buddy DeFranco, Roy Hargrove, Jeff Hamilton, Kurt Elling, Anne Hampton Calloway, Joe Williams, Jimmy Heath, Doug

Lawrence, Jerry Weldon, Jim Rotondi, and Eric Alexander among others. Dan resides and performs in the Chicago area and has toured and performed throughout the world.
