Nationally Recognised Training
RT
What is Nationally Recognised Training?
Training is nationally recognised if it is developed underthe formal Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and isdelivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such asHIA. Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) meets the standardsrequired by industry. The Qualification or Statement of
Attainment you gain when your training with the HIA iscomplete will be recognised across Australia.
When you are looking for NRT training, keep your eye out forthe official NRT logo:
How much time do I need to dedicate to NRT?
At HIA, NRT is delivered face-to-face. The duration of eachtraining course will be indicated on all training calendars, directories and information sheets.
Please keep in mind that when you undertake NRT, you willneed to factor in some addition time outside of the face-to-
face classes. This additional time should be used by you forresearch and assessment preparation. As a guide, you mayneed to allocate up to 3 hours for every 1 hour you spend ina face-to-face class.
What are the pre-requisites to attend training?
All training at HIA is delivered in English. There is a certainlevel of language, literacy and numeracy required to be ableto successfully participate in NRT Training offered by HIA. Ifyou feel that you may require language, literacy or numeracysupport you should contact your regional HIA TrainingServices team and potentially undertake a
Pre-Course Evaluation to determine your needs. Each short course has additional requirements for itemssuch as tools, stationary and/or protective clothing. Thisinformation will be provided to you by your regional trainingteam upon registration into the course or can be requestedby you prior to registration.

The process of recognising your priorlearning is commonly known as RPL.
This process, put simply, is therecognition of your current skills andknowledge, regardless of how, when orwhere you gained them. This includesthrough a combination of formal orinformal training and education such as:
squalifications
snon-accredited short courses
sCPD training certificates
spre-vocational coursessschool qualifications
RPL also recognises the importance ofyour skills and knowledge being currentin the context of industry proceduresand standards.
For example, business managementskills in the construction industry learnt
15 years ago would differ greatly fromthose of today in terms of technology, industry practice, regulations, etc. HIARPL assessors will take this factor intoconsideration when carrying out RPLassessment services on behalf of HIA.
Examples of evidence that may beprovided can take a variety of formsincluding:
s references from colleagues, employers, qualified builders, clients, architects, certifiers or engineers
s related licenses from any state orterritory
sawards or prizes you have receivedrelating to your work or relevantactivities
s relevant documents related totrade or building projects thatyou can prove you havesupervised or managed such ascorrespondence with:

sjob descriptions, work experience, letters of appointment, log-books
swork journal or diary, photos orvideos of your work
swork samples such as:
