    To the extent by law that any limitation or exclusion can not apply, the total liability of VFS in relation to the product is limited to:

    (i) in the case of services, the cost of having the services supplied again; or

    (ii) in the case of goods, the lowest cost of replacing the goods, acquiring equivalent goods or having the goods repaired.

    To the extent permitted by law, VFS has no liability with respect to damage to or arising out of, or the condition or performance of, theproduct resulting from (i) negligence or improper use, storage, installation, configuration commission, service maintenance or handling ofthe product (where 'improper' includes treatment other than in accordance with the product manual, these terms and conditions or theinformation provided at a training session); (ii) accident, unforeseeable circumstances or disaster; (iii) modifications to the product otherthan in accordance with VFS's instructions; (iv) attachment of or interoperation with features, software or products not approved by VFS inwriting; or (v) where the product has been serviced by persons not authorized by VFS in writing to service the product.

    Product Warranty ConditionsVFS International Pty Ltd (VFS) warrants that new products (excluding consumable items) will conform to its published specifications andremain in good working order during the warranty period of 24 (twenty four) months from the date an invoice is issued by VFS to itsdistributor.

    VFS also warrants that products serviced or repaired by its service department will remain in good working order for a warranty period of12 (twelve) months from the date of service. This service or repair warranty is only available on products less than 7 (seven) years old andonly covers those component parts of the products serviced, repaired or replaced.

    Should product under warranty not be in good working order, VFS will, at its option, either repair or replace the product or its componentparts at no additional charge.

    Spare parts and replacement product, covered under this warranty, will be furnished on an exchange basis and will, at the option of VFSeither be new, equivalent to new or reconditioned. Returned parts and products to VFS become the property of VFS.

    Codes and Standards Information

    We strongly recommend that this document is read in conjunction with the appropriate local codes and standards for smoke detection

    systems and electrical connections. This document contains generic information and some sections may not comply fully with all localcodes and standards. In these cases, the local codes and standards must take precedence.

    FM 3611 Hazardous Approval Warning

    Exposure to some chemicals may degrade the sealing of relays used on the detector. Relays used on the detector are marked "TX2-5V" or"G6S-2-5V" or "EC2-5NU".

    UL Warning

    The fire alarm threshold (signal) that initiates an evacuation procedure via the Fire Alarm Panel must not be set higher than 0.625%/ft. Thedetector can send this signal either via the Fire Alarm Panel Output signal or the Pre-alarm output signal.

    Safety Label

    This VESDA product incorporates a laser device and is classified as a Class 1 laser product that complies with FDA regulations 21 CFR1040.10. The laser is housed in a sealed detector chamber and contains no serviceable parts. This laser emits invisible light and can behazardous if viewed with the naked eye. Under no circumstances should the detector chamber be opened.

    1.1 Scope

    The VESDA PC Software Guide outlines the VSM3 and VConfig PRO Software packages, its

    features and instructions for installing it. It provides a guide to the different aspects of the

    software packages.

    The VESDA Software Guide is written for those involved with the commissioning, maintenance

    or management of a VESDA system. It provides an overview of the software and its application.

    It is assumed that the persons using VESDA PC Software are knowledgeable about the variousaspects of the VESDA Laser System and Aspirating Smoke Detection. It is suggested that

    persons using VESDA PC Software attend a VESDA accredited course.

    1.2 Introduction

    PC Software Packages

    VESDA offers a number of PC software packages. These packages allow for managing,

    commissioning and configuring the VESDA laser system to different degrees.

    VSM3 system monitoring software package allows centralized monitoring of the status of

    the smoke detection system. It allows single point analysis and configuration for large or

    small installations.

    VConfig Pro is the professional system configuration tool enabling easy system

    configuration.

    VESDA System Configurator (VSC) is the professional system configuration tool enabling

    easy system configuration for large or small installations.

    System Requirements

    For the software packages to function efficiently the minimum system requirements are:

    Intel Pentium 120 Processor

    64 mb RAM

    1.2 gb Hard Disk Drive

    800 x 600 SVGA Display

    Microsoft Windows 9x/NT/200/ME (or later) operating system High speed FIFO serial port (16550 serial chip or compatible)

    CD ROM

    1.44 MB, 3.5 inch floppy disk

    Installing the Software

    VSM3 - To start VSM3 place CD into a CD Drive. The Installation Wizard will guide the user

    through the installation process

    VConfig PRO - To start VConfig PRO place CD into a CD Drive. The Installation Wizard will

    guide the user through the installation process

    Connecting to VESDAnetThe PC loaded with the VESDA PC Software is connected to VESDAnet using the HLI (For

    details on VESDAnet and HLI please refer to the VESDA Communications Guide). VSM3 and

    VConfig PRO can be situated on-site, or at a remote location. If the PC is located at a remote

    location modems will be required at either end for communication between the software loaded

    PC and the HLI.

    VESDA PC Software Functions

    The functions offered by the VESDA PC Software packages are detailed below.

    Logging In

    The PC supporting the VESDA PC software package must be connected to VESDAnet before

    starting the software. If the PC is not connected the software will not run.

    Starting the software once the PC is connected to VESDAnet, will bring up the Logon screen

    User Access Levels and PIN

    User Access Level - The three User levels allow progressively limited access to users at lower

    levels. The level of authorization at each level is mentioned below in table 2,User Access

    Levels and Functional Authorization on page 5

    Personal Identification Number (PIN) - The default PIN for each level of user is set at the factory.

    The Distributor has access to the PINs for each level. After logging in the user has the option to

    change the default PIN.

    Looker View Only None. A Looker level is not displayed on the Log On screen.

    Clicking on OK without entering any Password will accessthe Looker level.

    USR Low This is the USER. The User can view the event log, change

    the date and the time. They can also perform selected

    VESDA Zone control Functions.

    ADM High At the ADMINISTRATOR level access is available to most

    functions. These include setting Alarm Thresholds and

    normalizing Air Flows.

    DST Absolute The DISTRIBUTOR level allows unlimited access to all the

    System commands and parameters.

    The sub-menus available may vary depending upon the devices connected to VESDAnet. For

    details of sub-menus please refer to the VESDA PC Software Online Help.

    1.5 The Tool Bars

    The Tool Bar is displayed on the screen below the Menu Bar. The Tool bar is accessible through

    the View Menu on the Menu Bar and can be activated or hidden through this menu. The Tool

    Bars for VSM3 and VConfig PRO are displayed below in figure 6, VSM3 Tool Bar,on page 6.

    1.6 Parameter Configurations Forms

    Configuration Parameter Forms allow the configuration of VESDAnet, VESDA Laser Detectors,

    LCD Programmer, HLI Interface and the Displays. These forms have a number of tabs, each tab

    corresponding to a parameter that can be configured through the relevant tab. To access the

    relevant Configuration Form, select the Device requiring configuration and click on the

    Parameters Tool Button. For further details on accessing Configuration Forms please refer to the

    VESDA PC Software Online Help.

    VESDAnet Configuration Form

    The VESDAnet Configuration Form configures the parameters for VESDAnet. It is possible to

    configure parameters for all the devices on VESDAnet through this form. Figure 8, VESDAnet

    Configuration Form,on page 8illustrates the VESDAnet Configuration Form showing the

    available tabs for configuring different parameters. For details on individual tabs and their

    parameters please refer to the VESDA PC Software Online Guide.

    Detector Configuration Form

    The Detector Configuration Form allows changing the parameters for the selected Detector. The

    Detector Configuration Form showing the available tabs is illustrated below in figure 9, Detector

    Configuration Form,on page 9. The parameters that can be configured in each tab is explained

    in detail in the VESDA PC Software Online Help.

    Programmer Configuration Form

    This allows configuring the parameters relevant to the selected VESDA LCD Programmer. The

    top of the form will identify the LCD Programmer that has been selected. The Programmer

    Configuration Form showing the available tabs is illustrated below in figure 10, VESDA LCD

    Programmer Configuration Form,on page 9. The VESDA PC Software Online Help explains the

    parameters that can be configured through the tabs of the Programmer Form.

    Interface Configuration Form

    The Interface Configuration Form allows configuring the parameters relevant to the selected HLI.

    The top of the form will identify the HLI that has been selected. The Interface Configuration Form

    showing the available tabs is illustrated below in Figure 11, Interface Configuration Form,on

    page 9. For detailed explanation on configuring the parameters please refer to the VESDA

    Software Online Help.

    Display Configuration Form

    The Display Configuration Form is used to configure the parameters of displays connected to

    VESDAnet. This Form allows configuring the parameters relevant to the selected Display. The

    top of the form will identify the Display that has been selected. The Display Configuration Form

    showing the available tabs is illustrated below in figure 11, Interface Configuration Form,on

    page 9. Please refer to the VESDA PC Software Online Help for detailed explanation of the

    Display Form.
