Page to Increase Your
Business
Facebook has grown by leaps and
bounds over the past few years and it is a great place for a business to pick up some recognition
and spread the word and advertise, the cost is wonderful, because it is free and there is no cost
associated with it.
However, Business have to know that if they are in fact a “business”, then they need to set up
their Facebook account as a business and not as a personal account. If they set up their
business account as a personal account it goes against Facebook’s rules and they are at risk of
their account being terminated without question.
That means that all of the hundreds of friends, all of your content, customization of your page
that you spent time on building up will be gone in a flash….poof, your account has been
deleted without warning.
Facebook’s rules clearly state: “Profiles represent individuals and must be held under an
individual name, while (Fan) Pages allow an organization, business, celebrity, or band to
maintain a professional presence on Facebook.”
Granted, if you are a gambler, you could take the chance that you would never be found out
considering there are over 400 million users on Facebook. However, it has happened and there
have been many companies that lost this gamble and their accounts were eighty-sixed in just
an instant.
If you use a Profile to represent yourself as a professional associated with a business or
organization, you’ve got no worries. This does not mean actually having two accounts, one for
business, one for personal, because that is against the rules as well.
Moving forward, if you are in fact breaking the rules and using a personal account for business,
here is what you can do:
1. Create a Fan Page for your business or organization.
You can create a fan page for your business. Now granted, you can’t just invite friends to a
business account because friends are not allowed on a business page. What you can do is invite
your friends from your personal account to become “FANS” of your business account. This will
build up your fan base on your business page.
2. Building your fan base on your business page.
They best way to do that is to let all of your current friends that you will be changing your current
account as a business over to a personal account and refer them to your newly created
business Page to continue to interact with your business/organization.

3. Continue to send invitations to “Friends” to become a “Fan.”
You probably build up new friends quickly, so don’t forget to send them an invitation to become
a “Fan” of your business page. I assume your friends were picked for one reason or another
because they have something in their profiles that would attract them to your business in the first
place, so they should accept the invitation. This is how you can now build up a larger fan base
and drive traffic to your business within the Facebook rules.
In addition, if you are not on Facebook yet, knock yourself in the head and ask yourself why? 400
million other humans all around the world must have a reason, right? And besides, it’s free!
