Translated from the 15th century French by Monsieur John Pierre-Benoist:

I, Perraud Pillot, son of Niquilly Pillot, citizen of La Neuveville, make known to all that I affirm for myself and for my heirs, certify and am recognized by those present that I hold for my lord, the count, a vine situated in the castle vineyard, owned by the lord of Neuveville, in the direction of the Vaul Street towards the village (public?) containing two trenches (rows of vines?) along the public way, in front of the vine held by Father Rudin, bounded? by the vine held by Jorain, and the vine held by Jehan Buchin to the east under the yearly and perpetual tax of 6 1/2 Neuveville measures (barrels?) of white wine per year to be paid according to these terms.

Confessed to me as the first, in which I have no conflict of interest, I swear the testimony as given above is true. The same *(signatures and marks)* ... De Passibus ...

Genealogy Translation Problems:

Not translation from Modern Language to another Modern Language15th Century French is different from Modern FrenchAs in example, Gothic was the language in the original document

No modern equivalent – Hence not supported by GoogleCommon contemporary words may have no modern equivalentAbbreviations used then may be meaningless todayHandwriting may be difficult to interpret Surnames may confuse the translation

Hope your findings are in Latin The Language is little changed except for punctuation

Searching Across Languages - 1

Problem:

Search Terms entered in English will not necessarily provide hits on foreign URLs

Say ancestor was a shoemaker in the old country

Solution:

Perform search in country’s native language
