First Generation 1. John Mersereau was born on 30 Jun 1735 in Staten Island, N.Y. He died on 9 Jul 1814
in Maugerville, New Brunswick and was buried in the Maugerville Anglican Church Cemetery. John’s obituary in the Royal Gazette indicates that he was 93 years old at the time of his death. He was likely only around 79, although there remains some debate about this, an about who his parents were.
John married Charity (Gertrude) Van Horne daughter of Jacob Van Horne and Janetje Van Buskirk in about 1755 in Staten Island, N.Y. Charity was born on 9 Dec 1737 in Bergen Co. or Hudson Co., New Jersey. She died on 18 Apr 1822 in Maugerville, NEW BRUNSWICK. and was probably buried in the Maugerville Anglican Church Cemetery. John and Charity had the following children:

3. Lawrence Mersereau (John) was born on 28 Mar 1761 in Staten Island, N.Y. He died
on 9 Jul 1814 in Maugerville or Blissville, New Brunswick. It is indicated in at least one genealogy that Lawrence died in 1818 at the age of 57.
Lawrence married Hester (Esther) Tayler, daughter of James Tayler about 1786 in Sunbury County, New Brunswick. Hester was born in 1767 in Staten Island, N.Y. She died in 1828. They had the following children:

Andrew Mersereau was likely of the Sunbury County Militia; Captain 8 July 1806 to 25 Aug. 1823; resigned 25 Aug. 1823. Second in command on the march of the 104th Regiment to Quebec in 1812 (I have not been able to verify this information from Louise Hill.)
