Studio Art/Printmaking Position
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR STUDIO ART: The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank for a Studio Artist with specialization in Printmaking. Teaching experience and strong evidence of a developed professional studio career is required. RESPONSIBILITIES: UTSA offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in both Studio Art and Art History (B.A., B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Studio Art and B.A. and M.A. in Art History). The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work in an integrated studio and lecture environment, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. The regular teaching course load is 2-2, plus creative/research activities and service/committee obligations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MFA degree in Studio Art or related field and at least two years of university level teaching experience, as well as a strong record of professional activity. Knowledge of current practices, techniques, processes and issues as related to printmaking is essential. The applicant must be able to develop, refine and teach courses ranging from non-majors to majors and from freshman through Graduate levels.
THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND ART HISTORY: UTSA is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Department offers Art History and criticism programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) and the Master of Arts Degree (MA). Additionally, Studio art programs in ceramics, new media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture lead to the Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA), the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (BFA) and the Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA). The Art and Art History faculty is composed of 18 full-time and 16 part-time faculty members. The Department serves approximately 2100 students per semester with approximately 420 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students enrolled in the Studio and Art History programs. The Department also has two exhibition spaces: the UTSA Art Gallery on the 1604 Campus and Terminal 136 at Bluestar, near downtown San Antonio.
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO: Approximately 30,000 students are currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at the University. San Antonio has many multicultural attributes. While best known for its historical attractions, the San Antonio Missions and the Riverwalk, it also supports a lively, thriving arts scene that includes the international residency program at Artpace, the nationally acclaimed Blue Star Contemporary Art Center; Southwest School of Art, San Antonio Museum of Art, and McNay Art Museum, as well as a growing number of other galleries and exhibition spaces.
