St. Patrick is the

patron saint of

Ireland.

He was born in the fourth century and he was a bishop who introduced

Christianity into Ireland.

He used the shamrock, with its three leaves, to explain the Holy Trinity (the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost) to Irish pagans.

Shamrocks are three-

leaved clovers that

grow on the grass.

wear a green suit with a big hat. They have

big pots full of gold. If you find a

leprechaun, he will reveal

where he hides his pot of

gold.

The village of Blarney is in the southwest of Ireland. It has got a very famous castle. In the castle, there is a stone, the Blarney Stone. If you kiss this stone, you will receive the gift of eloquence – to have beautiful speaking abilities.

On this day, many people in Ireland dress up as leprechauns with their big green hats!
