VocabularyVocabulary
Triboelectric or Friction Charging
– Friction is the primary means of generating static electricity. Whenever two surfaces in close contact are separated, one surface loses electrons and becomes positively charged while the other surface gains the same electrons and becomes negatively charged. The total charge on the two materials remains the same and may even be zero. After separation, however, each surface retains its positive or negative charge, unless the surface is
conductive and a path to ground is provided.
VocabularyVocabulary Charging Through Induction
– Inductive charging occurs when a charged object creates a stationary electrostatic field. It is difficult to charge non-conductors by induction. However, grounding a conductive object when it is in the field causes it to take on static charge of opposite polarity to the field without having touched the original charged object. The electrostatic field from the original object attracts (or induces) opposite polarity charge to the surface of the new object placed within the field. If that object is then isolated from ground and removed from the field, it will hold an electrostatic charge.
Example: Ungrounded idler roll or conductor (operator) in presence the of web
VocabularyVocabulary
Alternating Current (AC) Ionizers
– High voltage is applied to a number of closely-spaced emitter points, which cycle alternately-negative and positive- at the line frequency (50/60 Hz). AC technology is used in grids, ionizing blowers, guns and bars.
VocabularyVocabulary
Steady-state DC Ionizers – With this method, separate emitter points are provided
for each polarity. Positive high voltage is continually applied to one half of the emitter points while negative high voltage is continuously applied to the other half. Steady-state DC is used in room systems, laminar flow hoods, ionizing blowers and ionizing blow-off guns. Steady-state DC work with low as well as high air flow providing the emitter points are spaced far enough apart to reduce ion recombination, without creating hot spots.

What is an AirKnife
AirKnivesAirKnives
How an AirKnife works– AirKnives use a stream of air under high pressure
– AirKnives can also assist Static Bars by increasing their limited range.
AirKnivesAirKnivesHow an AirKnife works
1. Compressed air flows through an inlet into the plenum chamber of the Ionizing Air Knife. Multiple channels inside direct the flow to a precise, slotted orifice.
2. Air is pulled in from the surrounding room
3. As the primary airflow exits, it creates a uniform sheet of air across the entire length.

AirKnife & Static Bar1. Compressed air flows through the

2. As the primary airflow exits, it creates a uniform sheet of air across the entire length pulling in surrounding room air.
3. A Static Bar fills the curtain of air with positive and negative charges.
4. The air stream delivers these static eliminating ions to the product surface neutralizing and cleaning it.

WebVacsWebVacs
What is a WebVac?– Side Draft Feature/Standard
WebVacsWebVacs
How does it work?1. Electrostatic attraction caused by static charges on the web binds
particles, like slitter dust, to the web surface. This attractive force is strong enough to resist cleaning by rotary brushes or blow-off nozzles.
2. The contact cleaning brush gently brushes the web, barely making contact with the web surface, to dislodge particles embedded in the surface of the web. The adjustable knobs and mounting brackets enable the user to adjust the positioning of the brush, even lifting out of the way entirely in applications involving delicate webs that could be damaged by contact cleaning.
WebVacsWebVacs
How does it work?3. The static neutralizing bar mounted on the front of the WebVac hood
neutralizes static electricity on the web, eliminating the electrostatic attraction holding contamination in place.
4. The vacuum collector draws a powerful suction through a narrow slot in the WebVac hood, lifting contaminants from the web surface as it passes within cleaning range less than an inch below. The tapered shape of the hood distributes the vacuum evenly across the entire width of the web for uniform edge-to-edge cleaning.
WebVacsWebVacs
How does it work?5. A perforated stainless steel air tube mounted along the trailing edge of
the cleaning hood directs a stream of compressed air across the web at right angles to the web surface. The resulting turbulence kicks particles from the web surface into the air where they are captured in the envelope of suction created by the hood instead of contaminating the surrounding environment or recontaminating the web.
6. As the web moves away from the hood, contamination has been lifted from its surface and it will remain cleaner because the WebVac has left it static free
