St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith.

We are a family of diverse people with various ministries:

healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community.

With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

FAMOUS QUOTES BY ABRAHAM LINCOLN

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to

test a man's character, give him power.”

“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their

minds to be.”

“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count.

It's the life in your years.”

Some Spiritual Exercises from Joe Paprocki and Julianna

Stanz: Put them in your backpack, they are designed to

deepen your commitment to the church. Please share

them with a friend or your family.

Think of your oldest church-related possession. Is

it your First Communion prayer book and rosary?

Is it a scapular? Is it your baptismal gown? Read

John 17, Jesus' prayer for the church.

In the coming week, pray each day for a different

person who was instrumental in passing on the

Catholic Faith to you. Pray for the leaders of the

Church: the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops, Clergy and

the Lay Ministers. Also, pray for vocations.

Pray for all of our students in both St. Ann School

and Religious Education. Pray for all the children

of the world.

Pray for the U.S.A. I think President Lincoln

would always agree with that one.

Read the Apostles and Nicene Creeds. These hold

the core of our beliefs.

2017 Annual Catholic Appeal

“Love Your Neighbor as Yourself”

Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annu-

al Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your

bulletin. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Ap-

peal is much different than a one-time special collection.

It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift paya-

ble in installments.

The ACA theme, “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself,”

was selected to remind us that our contributions to the

Annual Catholic Appeal enable the funded ministries and

services to share God’s love with many others in our par-

ish, our Archdiocese, and throughout the world. Each

pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate

in the campaign, and the gifts of many enable our Archdi-

ocese to deliver needed ministries and services.

After our parish goal of $34,787 is reached in cash, 100%

of any additional funds come back to St. Ann’s to help to

fund our needs.

If you received your pledge form in the mail, please com-

plete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend.

For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have

not had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew

pledge process at all Masses next weekend. Thank you

for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

Alumni Update February 12, 2017

Dear St. Ann Parish Family,

Happy Valentine’s Day Wishing you

a happy Valentine’s Day. I know it’s

a commercial holiday; however, a day

celebrating love accompanied by

chocolate is always a good day! The children and I will

have a bit of fun by dressing down in red or pink on

Tuesday. Do you remember making your Valentine

mailbox or bag to receive those little class valentines?

That tradition is still in place.

This Friday is our Home and School Association’s annu-

al Daddy/Daughter Dance from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in our

school hall. Young ladies in the parish are invited to

attend this dance with their fathers or father-like individ-

uals in their lives. Please call 708-895-1661 for ticket

information.

“A Night at the Palace” Fundraiser – March 4 Please

be sure to join us at our school/parish fundraiser on Sat-

urday evening, March 4 at the Dream Palace in Lyn-

wood. We are ONE parish and this will be ONE fantas-

tic evening! Tickets are on sale for $50 each before/

after masses, at the school, or at the parish office. We’re

planning for a wonderful auction, raffle baskets, and

much much more. There will be something for every-

one; I hope you can attend.

Catholic Schools Week a Success We had such a faith-

filled and festive Catholic Schools Week recently.

Highlights included our special Mass on Sunday fol-

lowed by a dance performance by our PK-8 students.

The Sisters of St. Paul were in the building to share vo-

cational conversations, information on utilizing social

media for the greater good, and to present a Catholic

book fair. We “appreciated” special people who assist

us to do all that we do including our Pastor, parents,

teachers, and students. Last but not least, our Penny

War, targeted at raising funds for our Student Council,

went above and beyond our wildest expectations. We

opened our doors for open houses and greeted new fami-

lies interested in providing their children a Catholic edu-

cation.
