SmartPlant Materials DBA Settings 11

This document describes all relevant DBA settings, their usage, and valid values. The DBA settings are global settings and preferences that control the general behavior and processing of SmartPlant Materials, independent of the login project or product group. Only a system administrator who is familiar with the database and Oracle SQL should make changes. Changes can be made while logged into any product group or project, provided the user role grants write access.

SmartPlant Materials DBA Settings 13

The purpose of this document is to explain the specific tasks for setting up DBA settings in SmartPlant Materials. This section describes the steps required for setup of general and application-server specific settings. DBA settings are maintained on the A.60.04 DBA Settings screen. This screen is used to maintain global settings and preferences, which control the behavior and processing of other modules. Most of these settings relate to options that should be configured by an experienced DBA, as they may affect the use of server resources or general application performance. Other settings determine what options the user may choose from in other modules. The screen has three tab pages: General Database Settings Application Server Specific Settings Active Application Server Settings

General Database Settings The General Database Settings tab lists all the settings that control database resources and behavior. All general DBA settings are listed in the General DBA Settings (on page 19) section.

In the first (DBA Settings) block, the DBA settings are displayed with name, language-dependent short description and description. The Add indicator controls whether values can be added for this DBA setting or not. The Delete indicator controls whether values of this DBA setting can be

deleted or not. The Edit indicator controls whether values of this DBA setting can be changed or if these values are fixed. The Data Type indicates whether the setting value must be a character, number, date, or special value. The general DBA settings are categorized into the following groups: Administration settings SmartPlant Reference Data-related settings JCS-related settings Discoverer-related settings SAP-related settings Rollback control related settings

There are several job types which, depending on the volume of data they are processing, may require a special rollback segment dedicated to them which is large enough to hold their undo information. By configuring these settings, the DBA can assign individual segments on a per job type basis. These types and corresponding setting names are RBS_...

Report-related settings Log file-related settings Interface directory settings

These directories can either be configured here on A.60.04, which means that the definitions are global and independent of projects, or you can configure them on a more detailed basis, that is, on the project group, on the project, or on the project/discipline level on A.20.11/12/13, respectively. Definitions on one of these screens, however, take precedence over definitions on this screen when a particular directory parameter has been set up in both places. For further details, refer to the SmartPlant Materials Project Defaults document, available from the Printable Guides page in the software, or the online help on the A.20.11/12/13 screens.

All directories must be configured in the database instance initialization file so that they are available as UTL_FILE_DIR directories.

You should include an appropriate configuration line for each single directory. You should never use the 'UTL_FILE_DIR=*' configuration option, as this option severely affects the overall database security.

Web-related settings In the second (DBA Setting Values) block, you can set and maintain values for the selected DBA setting. The value is entered in the Setting Value field. The Comment field can be used to enter explanatory comments for the setting value. You can define multiple predefined values for each setting, but only one of them can be set active by selecting the Active check box.

Application Server Specific Settings The Application Server Specific Settings tab lists all the settings that control application server specific resources and behavior. All application server specific settings are listed in the Application Server Specific Settings (see "Application Server-Specific Settings" on page 43) section.

In the first (DBA Settings) block, the DBA settings are displayed with name, language-dependent short description and description. The Add indicator controls whether values can be added for this DBA setting or not. The Delete indicator controls whether values of this DBA setting can be deleted or not. The Edit indicator controls whether values of this DBA setting can be changed or if these values are fixed. The Data Type indicates whether the setting value must be a character, number, date, or special value. The application server specific settings are categorized into the following groups: Administration settings Discoverer related settings Report related settings Web related settings

In the second (DBA Setting Values) block, you can set and maintain values for the selected DBA setting. The value is entered in the Setting Value field. The Comment field can be used to enter explanatory comments for the setting value. You can define multiple predefined values for each setting, but only one of them can be set active by selecting the Active check box. If you are working with only one application server or if the value is valid for all application servers, you can leave the Server Name field empty. In case of multiple application servers used for your SmartPlant Materials application, enter the application server by selecting a value from the LOV in the Server Name field. The list of values is only available if you have defined the application server names on the third (Application Server Specific Settings) tab.

Active Application Server Settings The Active Application Server Settings tab lists all the available application servers in the first (Application Servers) block with their server name, IP address, and description. The DBA settings assigned to the selected application server are displayed in the second (DBA Settings and Values) block with the setting values.

A.60.63 Valid Settings

You can open the A.60.63 Valid Settings screen using the icon on each screen in SmartPlant Materials and SmartPlant Reference Data. The second tab on A.60.63 shows the DBA settings that are relevant for the screen from which it was called. If you have permissions to enter or change DBA settings on A.60.04, you can update these values here on A.60.63 as well.

When this screen is called, it shows the current DBA settings. Double-clicking the value or using the LOV icon or F9 opens the List of Values, wherever available. When a value is changed and the A.60.63 screen is closed, you are prompted to specify if the changes should be made. To be sure that the changes are in effect, the screen from which A.60.63 was called must be closed and re-opened.

This setting tells the system that it must download the OMI import file from the application server's BOM_UPLOAD_URL to the DB server. SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: B4001 Valid values: Y

BOM_IMPORT_PATH DB server path for BOM Import. If OMI Import is running in JCS batch, this setting specifies the directory in the file system of the Oracle Server where import files are being stored. This setting will be displayed as the default physical path on screen B.40.01. SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: B4001 Valid values:

C30_JOB_STATUS Use the job status functionality from A.60.85 in the Forecast/Reservation Run. When this DBA setting is set to 'N', no job status is created (A.60.85). This might be switched off for performance reasons. SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: C3001, C3011 Valid values: N

C30_OPTIMIZER_MODE Optimizer mode that C3001/11 should use. Specify either CHOOSE, RULE, FIRST_ROWS, or ALL_ROWS here. COMP_LOGIN_HELP Help for supplier login. URL for customer specific help about the supplier login. SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: ./. Valid values:

COMP_REG_QLF Display setting for P.20.03 if called via eSupplier Login. In P.20.03 Questionnaire, this setting affects the visibility of top-level nodes in the questionnaire tree if the screen has been called from the eSupplier Login (it is meaningless if the screen is called from the menu). Value '1-Step' will not restrict the number of top-level nodes displayed in the tree at all; that is, the company that has opened the screen via eSupplier Login is able to answer questions below all three top-level nodes from the very beginning. Values '2-Step' and '3-Step' will cause P.20.03 to show the top-level nodes 'Login Details' and 'Company Profile' only. After a company has submitted its answers to all the (mandatory) questions below those top-level nodes, and after these answers (also known as company profile) have been approved, a new call of P.20.03 by the company (via eSupplier Login) will yield the complete questionnaire tree. The difference between the values '2-Step' and '3-Step' will become evident on P.20.02 Login Requests only; that is, when set to '3-Step', the submitted login request must be approved via approval sequence before answers for the company profile and/or qualifications can be entered on P.20.03 Questionnaire via Supplier Entry. SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: A2049, P2002, P2003 Valid values: 1-Step, 2-Step, 3-Step

DISCOVERER_APP_SERVER Discoverer Application Server. You must specify a valid value, for example, myservername.mydomain.com. Ask your web server administrator before setting this value. The value will be used to generate the URL to call Discoverer from the web. You can easily validate with your web browser. Try to reach Discoverer on your application server using the following URL: >> http://myservername.mydomain.com/discoverer/viewer << SmartPlant Materials module(s) affected by this setting: DIS1001 Valid values:

DISCOVERER_LOGON_TIME_LIMIT Time limit for Discoverer to get valid login information. This value is the amount of seconds the system waits for the discoverer session to be established . If you specify a value of 30, the timer will start after pressing the button and reserve session information for your discoverer session. This session information allows you to query data of the same project or projects that your current account allows you to. While you are trying to log on, other users will be blocked from starting Discoverer. This is until your Discoverer session is successfully started or your time limit of 30 seconds is over. Fast application servers and network connections allow a low value for this DBA setting. You will have to try different values until you find a value that fits your environment.
