Monticello Schools Welcomes New Staff
Kenny Halloran is very excited to be the 7-12 PE and Health Teacher at Monticello. He was born
and raised in Mount Prospect Illinois, and is a big Chicago sports fan. This past May, he graduated
from UW Oshkosh with degrees in Physical Education, Health Education, and Adapted Physical
Education. At UW Oshkosh, he also competed in Cross Country and Track. He also just got married
this past June to his wife Kelly, who is an Elementary school PE teacher in Oregon, WI. His hobbies
include: running, playing sports, lifting weights, and doing anything outdoors.
Paul Burk is starting his 18th year as an instructor, having taught English at New Glarus High School
for 16 years. In addition, he taught Speech and Writing for the University of Phoenix for five
years. This past year Paul trained and taught for Madison College as a Fire Instructor and continues
to do so during nights and weekends. Paul graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with
a degree in English, graduated from Edgewood College with a teaching degree specializing in English,
and has a Master’s degree in English Education. When he’s not working he spends time with his
awesome children and wife, hunts when he can, plays volleyball, rebuilds Ramblers and Studebakers
and is a volunteer firefighter for New Glarus. Paul looks forward to becoming acquainted with the
students, parents, and staff at Monticello High School.
Carley Legler grew up in Belleville and currently still resides there. She has been a substitute
teacher for Monticello for the last two school years, before joining full time as the Middle School
Special Education Teacher. She graduated from Edgewood College with an Education Degree. Prior to
that, Carley took a course to get her Emergency Medical Technician license and is currently a
volunteer EMT for Belleville EMS. She is very excited to start her career at the Monticello School
District!

Erikke Grothaus is our new Director of Pupil Services. She spent the past 8 years teaching students with
Exceptional Educational Needs at the Early Childhood and early Elementary levels in the DeForest Area
School District. She comes from a long line of teachers and administrators including grandparents,
uncles, and cousins and feels likes this profession is in her blood. Erikke lives in DeForest with her
husband and 3 daughters; when she’s not providing transportation to school functions or watching the
kids' sports, she enjoys being with her family, doing yoga, mud runs, gardening, crochet, and
reading. Her philosophy about education is that all children can and will learn, provided they have the
right supports and environments. She believes the job of teachers is to find the best way to create that
ideal learning environment for each and every child. Every decision made in a school district should be
with the ever-present question of, "How will this improve the learning for the students?"
Elizabeth Willson is the new Monticello Middle School
Special Education Aide. She has lived in Monticello for 11
years with her husband Nathan, and two daughters Ella, 8,
and Gracelyn, 5. Elizabeth is also currently employed with
Kids Korner. Last year, she worked in the Monticello School
District helping in both the 4 Year Old Kindergarten and in
the 3rd Grade classrooms and says “it is truly rewarding
watching children learn and grow throughout the school
year.” She feels honored to be part of the Monticello School
District Staff.
A Message from the Principal by Mark Gustafson
The 2015-16 school year is off to a great start. Our teachers, students, and paraprofessionals returned to
school ready to teach and learn. We have a few new faces in our buildings, so please make sure to say
hello when you see them and make them feel welcome.
Our new staff members are: Erikke Nystrom-Grothaus-Director of Pupil Services, Paul Burk-High School
English, Carley Legler- Middle School Special Education, Kenny Halloran- Physical Education and Health,
Liz Willson- Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional. We are excited to have them on our team
at Monticello.
This school year starts the third year of our 1:1 laptop initiative for our 6-12 grade students. Our
teachers are able to prepare our students for the world of technology so that they can be better prepared
when they leave our district and venture into “the real world”. This year our 5th grade class and some of
our 7th graders are using Chromebooks instead of our Lenovo laptops. Chromebooks provide the
students with a new kind of technology that enables them to get logged in and working within 10
seconds. These Chromebooks are smaller and less expensive, and provide another avenue for our
students to use and prepare for the 21st century. We wouldn’t be able to supply our students with these
devices without the support of the Monticello community.
Our fall sports teams are in the middle of their seasons. Our football, cross-country, volleyball,
cheerleaders, and middle school girls’ basketball teams are working hard to be competitive with the teams
in our conference. They deserve a shout-out as they represent our school and community.
One of the goals that we have as a district is to open avenues of communication with our entire
community using social media. Make sure to check out and follow our school page on Facebook. We are
constantly updating events and celebrating the great things that are happening in our schools on our
Facebook page. Be watching for new announcements regarding social media outlets that will help to
celebrate our student successes within our school. Please don’t be afraid to contact the school if you have
questions.
As the school year hits full swing I would like to take a moment to thank our teaching and
paraprofessional staff. We have great educators in our schools who truly care about the success of the
students that they see on a daily basis. Our teaching and support staff deserve a great big thank you
from our parents and community members. The Monticello School District has a formula that will ensure
success for our students……great parents, great students, great teachers, and great community support. I

time/dates/place and other information your members and parents interested in joining should
know.
Provide flyers or other documents that we can either post or adapt to fit our web page
requirements. Plan ahead for anything that has a deadline!
We have a special page for information about fund raisers. This would be especially helpful when
parents contact the school because they don't have necessary forms or deadline information.
Photos will make keep our website and your organization's image fresh and appealing. Please take photos and send them to us. This will help showcase the great work you are doing!
Please give us enough advance notice to post your information. A good rule of thumb is to submit
information at least one week ahead of your event or deadline. We want to have enough time to do our
best work.

Dear Families,
Welcome back everyone! I
hope you are all settling into
the new school year. I would
like to take a moment to tell
everyone that Kids Korner is a
before and after school
program located here at the
school in the cafeteria. We
are open at 6:00 am until your
child goes to school. We
provide a morning breakfast
for your child. Then we
reopen at 2:55 after school
until 6:00 pm. We provide
afternoon snack. We are also
open on early release days
and no school days. We are
offering a new one hour rate
for those families that only
need care for just an hour
after school. We have lots of
enrollment options to help fit
your busy schedules.
If you need childcare, Kids
Korner still has openings
available for full or part time.
You may inquire about our

4 Year Old Kindergarten News by Kristy Auz
Welcome to school 4K Kiddos!
After about a month of school
we’re starting to learn
everyone’s name (even the
teacher’s new last name!).
We’re also learning how to
make friends. Making good
choices and practicing routines
are very important for us
every day! We bring in our
folders, and choose our milk
right away when we arrive.
From there we go about our
day and follow our schedule.
On Mondays we have library
with Ms. Denise (AM) and Ms.
Jodi (PM). We’re learning that
if we bring our book back, we
can check out a new one! On
Thursdays we have projects
with Ms. Paula. We’re
practicing important fine
motor skills while having fun
with Ms. Paula! In September
our themes were: getting
ready for school and apples.
We learned that apples grow
on trees and they grow from a
flower! An apple starts to
grow after the petals fall off
the flower. We’ve begun
learning about words and
letters and rhymes. We talked
about the first day of fall
(September 23rd) at school
and found out that fall is also
called autumn.
It’s so exciting to be starting
our second month of school!
Fall is such a great time of
year, but it does get chilly, so
parents please remember to
send warm jackets (maybe
even mittens or gloves) as
needed in October. We will
have outside recess every day
even when it’s chilly. It’s
important to make sure your
child has what he or she
needs to stay warm!
In October our themes will be
leaves, and pumpkins/harvest.
We also get to join the
kindergarteners for our very
first field trip to the pumpkin
patch! The Richard Smith
family has graciously offered
to have us come again this
year. Our field trip is on
Friday, October 9th. We can’t
wait to pick out some
pumpkins!

Trick or Treat hours in the Village of Monticello will be 2:30-5:30 p.m. on October 31. Information on
additional activities will be posted as it becomes available.

Did you know that October is
National 4-H Month? We have
a local 4-H club here in
Monticello named Washington
Center 4-H. Every year, we
show projects at the Green
County Fair. We show
animals, do archery and air
rifles, sewing, photography,
woodworking, etc. We do
community service to make
our community better. For
community service we help
the elderly, clean up the
community, and provide the
hospital with tie blankets. Our
meetings are one a month on
the second Monday of the
month at the school cafeteria
at 7:00pm. After each
meeting, we do a fun activity.
Once a year, we do a fun
activity such as roller skating
as a reward for working so
hard. 4-H is lots of fun, and
we would love to have more
members join our club. Any
students grade 5K and up are
able to join 4-H. For more

Safety First!!
Each year Monticello’s safety
team, made of teachers and staff,
works hard ensuring that we are using best practices to keep all of our student and staff members safe when at school. The team meets periodically to discuss, implement, and monitor safety
and crisis issues involving the Monticello schools. Safety team members are active in attending local and state professional developments opportunities and seminars. The district has
collaborated with the Monticello
Police Department, Monticello Fire
Department, and the Green County Sheriff’s Department on many safety procedures and initiatives. Since 2009, we have created or annually revised crisis plans, evacuation and tornado
procedures, lockdown procedures, playground safety, and numerous other issues related to school safety. It is an ongoing process because of changing information, expectations, and guidelines.
Entering this school year we
made some significant changes to
our active intruder procedures. In keeping with best practices, we discussed all information with our entire staff and now have shared the same message with all students. Please feel free to ask
your child what they learned about Monticello’s safety plan and contact us with any questions you might have.

Nursing notes
Hope everyone’s school year is off to a terrific start! Couple of things…
PLAY WITH THE PONIES! Our Fall 2015 night will be Wednesday, October 14th. Elementary
students are welcome to come on out and spend a few hours playing volleyball, basketball, and
football with our terrific high school student-athletes. Free t-shirts will again be given out to all
participants, along with some fun, active door prizes and healthy snacks! Come get some exercise
and have a great time! A permission slip to return to school is included in the newsletter.
GIVING HANDWASHING A HIGH FIVE! We are drowning germs by remembering to wash our
hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the bathroom.
Elementary students did some fun activities and experiments learning all about germs and how
hand washing helps keep us well! And ask them to show how we wash our hands in Monticello!
And encourage it at home, too.
Flu shots! Unfortunately, the Green County Health Department is not offering a school flu
immunization clinic this school year. I encourage you to make an appointment have your child
immunized for seasonal flu as it is the best way to prevent influenza illness and its complications.
The nasal spray is a great option for healthy school aged children. This season’s vaccines have
been updated to better match circulating viruses. The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for
everyone 6 months and older. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for protection to set in so
start thinking about getting vaccinated now.
We are working hard to keep ourselves healthy, but an occasional illness in kids that keeps them home
from school is inevitable. Below are some reminders for when to keep you child home from school.
When do I need to keep my child home from school?
Sometimes this isn’t always a clear-cut decision! Generally speaking, a student should be able to fully
participate in class (including gym and recess) when he/she is at school. If your child is not feeling well
enough to do this, he/she should stay home for the day. Some other general guidelines:
Fever >100: Fevers indicate a child is fighting off some sort of illness. Your child should be fever-
free for 24 hours (without any fever reducing medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen) before
returning to school.
Vomiting or diarrhea: Please keep your child home until he/she is able to keep down food from at
least the evening before and breakfast that morning.
Strep throat: Students can return to school after being on antibiotics for 24 hours.
When deciding if your child can go to school, use your best judgment and keep in mind that if your child is
uncomfortable, he/she won’t be able to concentrate or learn. You may also want to call your child’s
medical provider for further help deciding. Please remember to call the Pony Attendance line 938-4194 to
report when you child will be absent due to illness/injury.

Monticello Music Parents
Monticello Music Parents would
like to invite you to one of our
meetings! The group meets
every 1st Thursday night of the
month at 6:30 in the choir
room. There are many
opportunities offered to the
children through the music
programs, and with that
comes a responsibility from
the families and the
community.
What does Music
Parents do one
might ask?
Music Parents helps to provide
several opportunities for the
band/choir students of
Monticello. The money that
they raise throughout the year
benefits the students and
music program by helping to
cut the cost of travel and
performance opportunities for
the students, helps the music
program with costs during
host events held at our school,
helps with buying new
instruments for the band
program, and offers
scholarships to multiple
students at the end of the
year.
How much time do I
need to donate to be
a part of the group?
The meetings begin at 6:30
every 1st Thursday night of the
month. They last
approximately one hour, after
that it’s up to you how much
of your time you would like to
donate. There are a few
fundraising opportunities
throughout the year that we
need volunteers, but volunteer
opportunities are often split
into smaller slots of time. We
appreciate any time that you
are willing to give! And we
would love for anyone to join!
You don’t need to have a
student in school or in the
music program. Just a love of
music will do!
By joining this group you are
helping to alleviate the
responsibility of many small
tasks placed upon the music
teachers, giving those
teachers more time with your
child and betterment of the
program. The music program
has been extremely strong in
our community for many years
and it is something that
community member’s look
forward to seeing and hearing.
To continue this strong
tradition that so many of us
are proud of, the program
needs to have continued
support from the community.
Consider joining us this
upcoming 1st Thursday, on
October 1st at 6:30. There are
many exciting things
happening with these
programs this year and many
great opportunities for the
students of Monticello. Just to
name a few…a musical, a trip
to New York, and a year-end
revue of all of the talent that
our school has to offer. We
would love to see any new
faces and will take any time
that you are able to give!

Members of the high school
chapter have been busy
running the concession stand
during three volleyball games
in September. We will be
holding our annual Halloween
Food Drive on Oct. 31st with
members visiting homes in
Monticello during trick-or-treat
hours to ask for contributions
for Green Cares Food Panty.
Members will have the
opportunity to learn more
about FCCLA and increase
their leadership skills by
attending our regional
Leadership Academy on
Friday, October 16th at the
American Family Building in
Madison.
The middle school chapter will
be starting their annual
fundraiser on September 29th.
They will be selling frozen
cookie dough and items from
a catalog including holiday
decorations, wrapping paper
and gift items. Orders will be
due on October 13th with
delivery before Thanksgiving.
Members who sell at least ten
items will be invited to the
Green and Gold Experience on
October 21st. They will also
have the chance to win
additional prizes at the Green
and Gold Experience based on
their sales. Thanks for your
support of our fundraiser.

members – both middle school
and high school. If you did

FCCLA activities and events.

Monticello FCCLA Community
Connection is an organization
of parents and community
members who have come
together to provide support to
the Monticello FCCLA chapters.
We are beginning our fifth
year and invite anyone who is
interested to attend our
meeting on Sunday,
September 27th at 6:00 in the
FCS room. It would be
wonderful to have some new
members in our organization.
We only meet a few times
each year so the time
commitment is minimal.
Last year MFCC:
- provided scholarship monies to two FCCLA members who graduated in 2013.
- provided financial support to FCCLA State Officer, Dylan Beckwith.
- conducted our annual soup mix fundraiser.
- provided lunch for FCCLA members who shop for the Monticello Christmas Stocking Fund.
- held another successful raffle.
-provided judges for Region 6 STAR Events on Feb. 16th.
- paid $10 of the registration costs of the FCCLA members who attended state conference.
- paid an additional $10 of the registration costs for the FCCLA members who competed at the
state level of STAR Events during the state conference.
- provided national STAR Events qualifier, Emily Koch with $100 towards her expenses to travel
to Washington D.C. for nationals in July.
- provided a chaperone for state conference.
- provided a judge for state STAR Events competition.
- awarded three scholarships to graduating seniors.
We will once again be holding our soup mix sale in November. Details will be in the November newsletter.

notified of their achievement.
Application forms need to be
completed and turned in to
any NHS adviser by Oct. 1st.
Each candidate will be
evaluated based on their
leadership, service and
character. Those who meet
the criteria will be notified that
they are NHS candidates. The
first NHS meeting will be
October 5th during homeroom.
National Honor Society
members are involved in a
variety of service projects
including packing at Green
Cares Food Pantry twice a
month, assisting at Santa’s
Workshop and hosting a blood
drive. This year’s blood drive
will be held on December 21st
from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
The National Honor Society
Banquet will be April 27th.

Minutes of the Regular School Board Meeting June 10, 2015
I. Call to Order: Meeting called to order by President Tim Bruns at 7:30 p.m. Present: Tim Bruns, Randall Smith, Ron
Blumer, and Tyler Smith. Absent: Julie Havens, Joyce Hummel and Trina Zanow. Administration: Al Brokopp, Mark Gustafson, Ruth Voight, and Laura Curry. Audience: Mike Pollock and Aaron Rittenhouse.
II. Approve Agenda: Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Randall Smith to approve the agenda, motion carried.
III. Communications/Concerns from the Public: IV. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Randall Smith, second by Tyler Smith to approve the regular board meeting minutes of
May 13, 2015, motion carried.
V. Treasurer’s Report: Ron Blumer reported May cash receipts of $63,069.16 and expenses of $822,443.05. Food Service Report: None. Faculty Report: Mike Pollock reported that the year went well and summer was under way. Student Representative: None
VI. Administrative Team Reports: Pupil Services Director/Curriculum Coordinator: Mrs. Voight reported there were
no occasions in which the use of seclusion and restraint was needed on any students. She also reported that IDEA released the 2015-2016 financial allotments. Monticello will receive an increase of $283 for the Flow-thru funds while the Pre-K allocation remained the same. She also reported on the projected costs of OT and PT based on any known students needing services. Principal: Mr. Gustafson reported on Educator Effectiveness. Rollover for next year will take place in July at CESA 3. The PLC time is appreciated by staff as it allows collaboration. He also reported on the end of year activities of the students. There were many fun and exciting activities for each grade level of student. Summer meetings will take place for the teachers during July. District Administrator: Mr. Brokopp reported the baseball shed was complete except for painting. He attended a meeting with UW-Whitewater regarding hosting student teachers at Monticello. Mr. Brokopp reported on the senior banquet, graduation and the town hall meeting. All events went extremely well this year. Ms. Quade gave a wonderful speech as keynote at graduation and the town hall meeting had some very positive feedback for the administration. Kindergarten graduation was well attending and everyone thought it was a wonderful sendoff to the students. The new sign is installed and looks nice. There will be some additional landscaping thanks to the Tyler Smith family.
VII. Approval of Payroll and Vouchers: Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Randall Smith to approve vouchers 48100-48132, 49541-49592 and manual checks 1070-1076 and voided check 49465 in the amount of $686,230.27, motion carried. Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Tyler Smith to approve May payroll in the amount of $136,212.78, motion carried.
VIII. Old Business: Aaron Rittenhouse from Johnson Controls reported that work had commenced on the roof and HVAC
projects. He discussed some of the electrical proposals and gave an update on the progression of the work. Bootcamp 2015 preparations are continuing for the collaboration of Monticello, Albany and Mt. Horeb school districts. There was nothing new to report regarding the 2015-2016 budget.
IX. New Business: Motion by Randall Smith, second by Ron Blumer to approve a request for the band to take an out of state

I. Call to Order: Meeting called to order by President Tim Bruns at 7:31 p.m. Present: Tim Bruns, Julie Havens, Randall Smith, Ron Blumer, Trina Zanow, Joyce Hummel and Tyler Smith. Administration: Al Brokopp, Mark Gustafson, and Jean McMannes. Audience: Paul Berg and Aaron Rittenhouse.
II. Approve Agenda: Motion by Trina Zanow, second by Julie Havens to approve the agenda, motion carried.
III. Communications/Concerns from the Public: A thank you was read from Linn Lederman. Paul Berg and Aaron Rittenhouse from Johnson Controls gave an update on work being done this summer and the timeline for completion. The DPI is starting to have advisors to oversee school revenue limit refinancing in the state.
IV. Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the regular board meeting of June 10 were tabled.
V. Treasurer’s Report: Ron Blumer reported June cash receipts of $699,213.70 and expenses of $358,301.60. Food
Service Report: None. Faculty Report: None.
VI. Administrative Team Reports: PreK-12 Principal: Mr. Gustafson discussed Summer School and various staff activities during the summer including an EduClimber presentation, Pony Prep planning, Special Education meetings and Technology Boot camp. District Administrator: Mr. Brokopp reported on building updates and summer projects both inside and outside of the building. The new clock/bell system will be installed in August.
VII. Approval of Payroll and Vouchers: Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Julie Havens to approve vouchers 48135-
48201 and manual checks 1077-1084 in the amount of $183,839.58, motion carried. Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Tim Bruns to approve June payroll in the amount of $174,462.02, motion carried. Google training sessions currently have 85 registrants from Monticello, Juda, Albany, Mt. Horeb, Brodhead and Orfordville Parkview. Taher is catering both days. WTI will be paying for the food and presenters. Motion by Randall Smith, second by Julie Havens to approve a 66:0301 agreement for Librarian Mary Larson, motion carried. A 66:0301
agreement will also be made for the Director of Pupil Services new hire. Motion was made by Ron Blumer to approve the 2014-2015 Budget Revision as presented. Chris Collins and Scott Anderson will be teaching a class in Monticello on August 10 for teachers who will be teaching telepresence classes in JAM (Juda-Albany-Monticello Academic Co-op). The class will also be offered through WTI and will have people from around the state coming. The gym floor will be refinished the last week of July. Some work still needs to be done on the baseball scoreboard. Additional electrical service was discussed. IV. Introduction of New Teachers: New staff members Erikke Grothaus, Director of Pupil Services; Kenny Halloran, Physical Education/Health; Carley Legler, Middle School Special Education; and Paul Burk, High School English were introduced and told a little about themselves.

VI. Treasurer’s Report: Ron Blumer reported August cash receipts of $903,347.35 and expenses of $419,187.58. Food Service Report: None. Faculty Report: None. Student Representative: None.
VII. Administrative Team Reports: Director of Pupil Services: Mrs. Grothaus reported that she will be .60FTE in Monticello, .20 FTE in Albany and .20 FTE in Juda. We have hired a new teacher in Middle School Special Education and will be interviewing for a new Elementary Special Education teacher next week. She also reported that we currently
have 58 students with IEPs which is slightly higher than the nationwide average. She will be working on streamlining the IEP process and is working on forms in Skyward. There will be training for support staff working with SPED students and Educator Effectiveness training at the end of the month. PreK-12 Principal: Mr. Gustafson reported that we have had a great start to the school year. Laptops and Chromebooks are in the hands of all students that have the returned the proper paperwork. The first PLC meeting has been targeted for working on Educator Effectiveness forms. Mr. Gustafson and Mr. Brokopp completed recalibration training last semester and Mrs. Grothaus will be taking the calibration training throughout the first quarter of school. Elementary students are in RtI each day. Middle School RtI takes place during Homeroom each day and students completed the first round of STAR testing. We are waiting to hear from DPI regarding state testing for this year. All Seniors will need to pass a civics exam starting in 2017 in order to graduate. They must score at least 60 per cent on the exam, and are able to take it as many times as necessary to graduate. ACP (Academic and Career Planning) will be implemented by the 2017-2018 school year. District Administrator: Mr. Brokopp reported that our Music Department (Mr. Pollock and Ms. Becker) along with High School English Teacher Mr. Burk, are planning to produce a musical this year. This will replace the Senior Class Play. We will be involved in a mass casualty drill being planned for October 3. This will involve students, staff, and numerous police and fire departments in the county along with the Monroe Clinic.
VIII. Approval of Payroll and Vouchers: Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Julie Havens to approve vouchers 48265-48337 and manual checks 1093-1099 in the amount of $292,911.25, motion carried. Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Trina Zanow to approve August payroll in the amount of $126,276.33, motion carried. There were no Fund 49 vouchers to approve.
IX. Old Business: Staff attended an inservice in Brodhead and listened to speaker Pat Quinn. The district bought copies of his book Maximum Tier One: Improving Full-Class Instruction, for all staff. The afternoon inservice was spent in
Juda working on PLC goals. The following day teachers had an inservice in Monticello with various meetings and sessions and Open House that evening. Plans for the shared inservice on October 21 were also discussed.
X. New Business: Open House and In-service were discussed. Motion by Randall Smith, second by Trina Zanow to
approve a facility lease to Rachel Rufer and Kid’s Korner daycare at a rate of $.85 per child per day. Motion carried. Motion by Ron Blumer, second by Trina Zanow to approve a contract for Director of Pupil Services to Erikke Nystrom-Grothaus, motion carried. Motion by Julie Havens, second by Joyce Hummel to approve a 66:0301 agreement for the Director of Pupil Services to be in Monticello .60 FTE, Juda .20 FTE and Albany .20 FTE, motion carried. Motion by Julie Havens to accept with regrets, the resignation of English teacher Anna Schwerke. Motion was seconded by Trina Zanow and carried. Motion by Ron Blumer to accept the resignation of Jen Germann, Middle School Special Education. Motion was seconded by Tyler Smith and carried. Technology updates were discussed. Dual enrollment tuition for CAPP classes was discussed. Motion by Tyler Smith, second by Joyce Hummel to pay the full cost per credit for dual credit classes taken this year, motion carried. Motion by Randall Smith, second by Julie Havens to approve the adoption of Academic Standards, motion carried. Summer School was discussed previously in the Principal’s Report. We hosted a telepresence class to teach other educators the telepresence system. The class was taught by Monticello teacher Chris Collins and Scott Anderson of Juda. The office air conditioner needs repair. The lighting project and roof project will be completed by the end of next week. Clocks and bells will be done soon. The HVAC project has been completed. The refinishing of the gym floor was done by custodial staff this year. The student handbooks were printed
prior to the update of several board policies. A disclaimer was made starting that our website has the most recent board policies.

the sale of property and set
the date and time for the
next year’s Annual Meeting.
There is also an opportunity
for citizens to speak and ask
questions about the district
budget.
Annual Native American Indian Artifact Show
The Badger State
Archaeological Society will
hold its 32st Annual Native
American Indian Artifact
Show on Sunday, October
25th. The event will be held
at the Rehmstedt Gym at
Monticello Schools, 334 S.
Main Street, Monticello,
Wisconsin from 8:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. Cost of
admission is $2.00 and free
for ages 14 and under.
The show was started by
Ralph Hammerly with only 5
tables in Monroe. The show
has grown to over 80 tables
of artifacts on display or for
sale, including points, stone,
bone, copper artifacts,
Eskimo items, prints, books,
pottery, jewelry, rugs and a
whole lot more.
The show itself is a history
lesson, and there will be
experts on hand to identify
your artifacts.
There will be awards for
best of show, best personal
find, judge’s choice, and
best educational display.

Our seniors are busy submitting their college
applications. They should also be applying for a PIN number & have their parents also apply for a PIN so they will be able to sign their financial aid form
electronically. Apply for a
PIN number, before December 1st at www.pin.ed.gov . Even if you don’t feel that you will qualify for any FREE (scholarships, grants, etc.)
money, but you intend to
apply for a student loan, you will still want to apply for financial aid using the
FAFSA. Most colleges are requiring that you file a FAFSA before you may be considered for any financial aid through their college (this includes student loans). The process is free and the
online form is easy to use. You cannot submit FAFSA forms before January 1st, so if you apply for your PIN by December 1st, you should receive it in plenty of time
before you need to use your PIN number. There will be an informational financial aid meeting on January 4, 2016 from 6:30-7:30 PM at the New Glarus High School.
All of our juniors will be taking the ACT Plus Writing test in March of 2016. This is a requirement by the Wisconsin DPI so it will be paid for by the state. Encourage your child to take
this testing seriously because their scores may be
used for college admissions. If your son or daughter chooses to retake the ACT
test after the March date, to
try and achieve a higher score, you will have to pay for the retake. The cost of
taking the ACT ONLY is $39.50 or the ACT Plus Writing is $56.50. You need to register by a certain date to avoid late fees which would be an additional $25.00.

If your son/daughter decides to take the ACT again they

There are ACT Prep classes
offered at Belleville (late fall & winter) & Evansville (winter & spring) schools for
our students who would like to prepare for the ACT. The course fee for this 7 week, 16-hour course is $155 and covers all materials. I have $20 coupons which may be used when registering for
the class, as long as the registration is sent in 7 days prior to the class start date. Session 1—Belleville High School—Wednesdays
