Resurrection Begins with Death
The kingdom of Christ is a distant reality, but it is taking place right now. Theology gives hope that resurrection begins in death. Jesus did not say to the wrongdoer: "You will be in paradise at the end of time, but only TODAY! He did not mean a paradise that can be lost. We will not return to any old paradise. Jesus spoke about a completely new arrangement of close-ness between God and the people, in which there will be no place for any "snake"! Such a system, devoid of the possibility of sin and death, is possible, when in this life our choice of clinging to Jesus becomes irreversible like death. Revelation speaks of the blessing of those who are already dying in the Lord (14:13). It is about sticking to Jesus so much in love that it can only be compared to death. It is simply irreversible. Who does not remember these words from the Song of Songs: “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave” (8:6)? So there is such a love for Christ that even makes wrongdoers enter paradise TODAY! We can hope that the resurrection of the whole person, with his specific world, feelings, a wealth of experiences and thoughts, deeds, words, with self-awareness, and above all with his relationships of love, which he gained not only in relation to Christ, but also to his brothers and sisters. The event of resurrection will not take place until all have attained resurrection, when Heavenly Jerusalem, the new world of interpersonal relationships, arises. When God will be everything in everyone, meaning, when every-one will fulfill Him with the full capacity of their existence. The resurrection of the body on the day of death cannot be understood as the resurrection of the existing physicality of the body. Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene in bodily form is not subject to the laws of physics. He Has a body that is beyond physicality. He can disappear, move from place to place, even penetrate walls and closed doors, speaking invisibly to Saul on a galloping horse near Damascus. Although he can also manifest hunger and eat fish, or even allow to touch his painless wounds. Such a non-physical body, as can be hoped, we can receive as well, when we cross the chasm of death, to fall into the arms of the One we have chosen on this Earth. The power of communion with Jesus will prove to be stronger than death, because love is powerful as death, and jealousy, or the relentless and invincible desire to not lose someone you love, will be stronger than dying. The more complete the resurrection, the more complete the communion, and I mean not only the communion with Jesus, but also with our brothers and sisters. To have a body is to be capable of having a communion of love. It is no accident that we experience Holy Communion when consuming the body of Christ.

Zmartwychwstanie zaczyna się w śmierci
Królestwo Chrystusa rzeczywistością odległą, ale dokonuje się teraz. Teologia pozwala mieć nadzieję, że zmartwychwstanie rozpoczyna się już w śmierci. Jezus nie powiedział do złoczyńcy: "na końcu czasów będziesz w raju", tylko DZIŚ! Nie miał na myśli raju utraconego. Do żadnego starego raju nie wrócimy. Jezus mówił o zupełnie nowym układzie bliskości między Bogiem a człowiekiem, w którym nie będzie miejsca dla żadnego „węża”! Taki układ, pozbawiony ewentualności grzechu i śmierci, jest możliwy, gdy w tym życiu nasz wybór przylgnięcia do Jezusa stanie się nieodwracalny jak śmierć. Apokalipsa mówi o błogosławieństwie tych, którzy już teraz w Panu umierają (14,13). Chodzi o tak silne przylgnięcie do Jezusa w miłości, że da się je jedynie porównać ze śmiercią. Jest ono po prostu nieodwracalne. Któż nie pamięta tych słów z Pieśni nad pieśniami: „połóż mnie jak pieczęć na twoim ramieniu, bo jak śmierć potężna jest miłość, a zazdrość jej nieprzejednana jak szeol” (8,6)? Jest więc taka miłość do Chrystusa, która sprawia, że nawet złoczyńcy wchodzą do raju DZIŚ! Możemy mieć nadzieję, że zmartwychwstanie cały człowiek, ze swym konkretnym światem, uczuciami, bogactwem przeżyć i myśli, czynów, słów, ze świadomością siebie samego, a nade wszystko ze swymi relacjami miłości, na jakie się zdobył nie tylko w stosunku do Chrystusa, ale też do swych braci i sióstr. Wydarzenie zmartwychwstania dokona się całkowicie dopiero wtedy, gdy wszyscy osiągną zmartwychwstanie, gdy powstanie Niebieska Jerozolima, czyli nowy świat więzi międzyludzkich, gdy Bóg będzie wszystkim we wszystkich, to znaczy, gdy każdy wypełni się Nim całą pojemnością swego istnienia. Zmartwychwstania ciała w dniu śmierci nie możemy pojmować jako zmartwychwstania dotychczasowej fizyczności ciała. Jezus ukazujący się Marii Magdalenie w cielesnej postaci nie podlega prawom fizyki. Ma ciało, które jest ponad fizycznością. Potrafi znikać, przenosić się z miejsca na miejsce, nawet przenikać mury i zamknięte drzwi, przemawia niewidoczny do Szawła na galopującym koniu pod Damaszkiem. Choć też potrafi zamanifestować głód i spożywa rybę, albo pozwala dotykać nawet swe bezbolesne już rany. Takie niefizyczne ciało, jak można mieć nadzieję, otrzymamy i my, gdy przekroczymy przepaść śmierci, by wpaść w ramiona Tego, którego wybraliśmy na tej ziemi. Moc komunii z Jezusem okaże się silniejsza niż śmierć, gdyż miłość jest potężna jak śmierć, a zazdrość, czyli nieustępliwe i niezwyciężone pragnienie nieutracenia kogoś, kogo się kocha, będzie silniejsza niż umieranie. Tym pełniejsze zmartwychwstanie, im pełniejsza komunia, i mam na myśli nie tylko komunię z Jezusem, ale też z braćmi i siostrami. Mieć ciało to być zdolnym do komunii miłości. To nie przypadek, że Komunię świętą przeżywamy jako spożywanie ciała Chrystusa.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Today’s solemnity, the final feast of the Church year, is a youngster as feasts go. In 1925, Pope Pius XI was distressed by global political upheaval and the de-Christianizing of society. That year was a “Holy Year,” keyed to the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, when the words “and of his kingdom there will be no end” were added to the Creed. The Pope explained that although most feasts had developed over many centuries, the Church sometimes provided a new feast to address new needs. He pointed to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing Christ’s love and compassion in a time when many people embraced a cold and gloomy spirituality. Originally on the last Sunday of October, in the late 1960s the solemnity of Christ the King was moved to the last Sunday of the year. Fresh from baptism’s waters, we are anointed with chrism “as Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king.” This feast is a key to our identity. On this feast, we recognize Christ as a king who breaks the usual mold of kingship, and who shapes his kingdom with our hands, our words, our deeds of love and service. —James Field, Copyright © J. On the first Sunday of each month, St. Fabian Parish offers a blessing for expectant mothers, fathers and their unborn children, immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Mass and we’ll meet in the Chapel. The blessing is given to strengthen mothers & fathers during the time of waiting and to pray for the health and
safe delivery of their child. This blessing may be received monthly throughout the pregnancy. ~ Deacon Ron

Thirty-Fourth Week of Ordinary Time
Sunday is the Thirty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time and the last week of the liturgical year. As always on this last Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. The readings remind us of God's faithfulness to us as he promises to shepherd the people of Israel. In Luke's Gospel we are taken to the crucifixion and Jesus being mocked as “King of the Jews.” The man crucified next to him asks Jesus to remember him when he gets into his Kingdom. Jesus replies, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
In the US, Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, with its own set of readings. Saturday is the Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle.
The first reading this last week of the liturgical year is from the Book of Daniel. These apocalyptic and mystical read-ings were written to give encouragement to the Jewish peo-ple in the face of persecution.
The stories in the Gospel of Luke this week offer a look at the meaning of generosity as the poor widow offers her two small coins. Jesus cautions against those who will come in his name promising salvation: “Do not follow them!” The cost of following his teaching is made clear, “You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.” In a dramatic look at the end time, echoing the Daniel readings, Jesus says, “And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Jesus continues the “end time” message saying, “know that the Kingdom of God is near. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.” He cautions, “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap.”
The First Sunday of Advent begins a new liturgical year and the beginning of a season filled with the riches of our scripture readings. For the next few weeks, the main focus will be on the first reading, with the gospel chosen to ac-company it. Isaiah offers the people of God a promise of peace: “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” Matthew's gospel is the story of Noah and a caution from Jesus to prepare “for an hour you do not expect.”
Daily Prayer This Week
The old and the new come together this week as we bring this liturgical year to a close and look ahead to Advent, which begins Sunday. We reflect that Jesus is our Savior and King. This means we are called to help build up the kingdom by loving Jesus in our poorest brothers and sisters. We will en-counter readings about the generosity of a poor widow and the warning of the approaching end of time. This is meant to help us begin our preparations for Advent. The actual end of the world may not be at hand, but the Kingdom of God is always at hand for us. It takes focus and paying attention to notice the signs, the ways the Lord makes himself available to us in the midst of our busy days.
We prepare for Advent this week when we can begin a small, but honest prayer, “Come, Lord, Jesus. Come into this place and into the conflict in my life. Let me be attentive and open to see the places where I am restless, distracted and too busy. Come into my real situation - not the way I present myself to others. Come to me - the real me that needs you.” We need this kind of preparation. These are challenging times. Holi-days stretch us and test us. Sometimes, under the stress of it all, we regress into behaviors that are bad and destructive, because they are familiar and what so many others are doing. Relationships get strained. Alcohol rarely brings cheer with-out at times risking bad patterns. So, praying these days - while very busy - praying out of our needs and even our pain - roots us in relationship with the One who always comes tosave us.
For those of us in the U.S., we shouldn’t miss reflecting on the meaning of Thanksgiving Day. It is an important time to be grateful for what we have received and to accept our re-sponsibility for being good stewards of what we have, sharing God's gifts to us in loving service to others.
For all of us, this is a week to be grateful and to experience the beginning of Advent on Sunday. We can prepare to walk into Church more alert, more ready to explore our longing. We can take advantage of the many resources offered on the “Praying Advent” pages.
As we grow in our practice of con-necting with our Lord and friend in brief moments throughout each day, we can develop the habit of giving thanks each night for what we have received.

“The Little Blue Book” An Advent Prayer Book
Advent begins on Sunday, December 1st, which is just around the corner. By the way, “Happy New Year”, the first Sunday of Advent begins a new year for the Church based on the Church’s calendar. Advent is a time of preparation for and reflection upon the birth of Jesus. To aid in the prayerful preparation for Advent “The Little Blue Book” written by Bishop Untener of Saginaw Michigan offers a brief prayer for each day of Advent. “The Little Blue Book” will be available in the Narthex beginning November 18th. Please take one and use it for daily prayer during Advent. A donation of $2 is requested to pay for “The Little Blue Book”.

Next week the Church will begin in the Advent Season. The generous Parishioners of St. Fabian are once again asked to help bring Christmas
cheer to someone in need. Our Sharing trees will be set up on the first weekend in Advent, Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st. They will be filled with colored tags bearing the names and ages of someone in need of cheer this Christmas. For those of you who like to shop early and take advantage of the great early Christmas bargains, below are some gift idea’s that are sure to be listed on a tag or two (or possibly many more!). Popular items are always Barbie dolls, Disney Princess dolls, baby dolls and doll accessories, Trans-formers, wrestling figures, action figures, basketballs, footballs, remote control vehicles (cars, Motorcycles or trucks), Slime kits and men’s or women’s clothing in XL, 2X, and 3X sizes. Hats, gloves and scarfs are popular as well. Many of these items will be on sale during the coming weeks. Please note: All items gifted must be new! When the trees appear in church, simply check the back of the tags and match them to the gift you’ve al-ready purchased. Many of you will choose to wait until you feel drawn to a tag and shop specifically for that person. Either way, know that your gift will brighten someone’s Christmas. For many of these people, your gift will be the only one they receive! If you can’t find the gift on the tag or are short of time, remember, Gift Cards to Wal-mart or Target are totally acceptable.
