Results ResumesResults Lead to Results!
A Few Introductory Notes about Resumes…
A resume won’t get you a job by itself, but it can keep you from getting one.
No more than two pages are necessary
It is your way to market yourself; don’t be shy about successes!
Do NOT, however, ever fabricate the truth!
The Paradigm Shift The Old Way
• A focus on tasks performed on the job
• A concern over which style of resume (chronological, functional) was right for you.
• Only tasks performed on the job or skills acquired through a paying job are relevant to your resume
The New Way
• A focus on results achieved on the job
• A realization that the style isn’t as important as what the resume says about you.
• Results achieved through a paid position or volunteer experience are relevant
Shift your thinking!
1. Ask yourself: “What am I proud of accomplishing?”
2. Record these accomplishments. Quantify whenever possible!
3. Translate Accomplishments into Key Skills
4. Use your Accomplishments and Key Skills to record the Situation, Action and Results
5. Write Results Statements
6. Match Results Statement to the job in which you are applying

3. Generate Situation, Action,
and ResultsOur example Dee:
Situation: People were complaining about how the schedule was handled at CVS. People were getting scheduled when they had other commitments and those commitments had been communicated to management. The manager began to complain about everyone complaining.
Action: Dee offered to help the manager by looking at the schedule, asking co-workers for their schedule and revising to see if could fit everyone’s needs.
Result: Implemented a scheduling system that made the process easy and stopped complaining of staff which reduced management’s stress. Less absenteeism.
3. Generate Situation, Action,
and ResultsOur example Sam:
Situation: Big Brothers and Big Sisters experienced significant loss of revenue due to fraudulent activity of a staff member. A board member knew Sam and his ability to figure out complex financial situations, so he called Sam to help.
Action: Sam came in and audited the financial records of the organization at no charge.
Result: Sources of revenue lost and fraud were found and it did not cost the organization any money to complete the audit. Sam implemented a checks and balance system for the organization so that a similar situation would not occur again. The organization is now on its way back to being a trusted source for donations in the community.

5. Write Results Statements
Our example Dee:
Organized and implemented a new staffing scheduling system which decreased absenteeism by 20%.
• How would you draft a statement for Sam?

6. Match Results Statement to Job in which you are
applying
Our example:
What if Dee wanted to apply for an HR generalist role at a retailer?
What if Sam wanted to apply for an Auditor position at an accounting firm?
Which key accomplishments would they focus on to generate results?
