Red Hat eNteRPRISe VIRtUaLIZatION FOR deSKtOPS SUBSCRIPtION MOdeLRed Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops (RHEV for Desktops) is an add-on to your exist-ing Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers (RHEV for Servers) subscription. Desktops are licensed on a per-concurrent-desktop basis, in packs of 25 concurrent desk-tops. The subscrip-tion includes support for supported desktop operating systems, the SPICE remote rendering protocol, the Connection Broker, and for supported thin clients and PC browsers on Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms.
This model allows customers to freely mix server and desktop virtual machines without requir-ing segregation of desktop and server workloads for licensing purposes. Desktop operating sys-tem licenses from Microsoft, Red Hat, or other providers must be licensed separately.

PRICING eXaMPLePurchasing RHEV for Desktops is easy. Here is an example:
This customer has ten (10) servers with two (2) sockets each running as hypervisors, and a sin-gle two (2) socket server for the RHEV Manager. They have already purchased RHEV for Servers subscriptions for each hypervisor. Desktop operating systems are running on five (5) of the servers. The maximum number of concurrent desktop users is 250. (See Figure 1 below.) The customer is deploying in production and wants 24x7 support.
To support 250 concurrent desktop users, we need 10 packs of 25 concurrent desktops. The customer needs to select RHEV for Desktops Premium because they need 24x7 support.
