Contract Location: Km 0.00 to Km 120.46 Monthly Update: North
Embankment construction:
- Embankment construction continued with focus on sections up to km 96.20. - 16 trucks were operational and hauling material from pit 170. - Contractor continued construction from km 96.20 to 103.88 and km 104 to 111.54. - Survey, staking slope, stockpiling, and hauling embankment material is ongoing. - Approximately 315,000 m3 (estimated) hauled in December.
Winter road construction:
- Snow clearing continued on lakes KP91, KP86, KP82B and KP82A. Flooding with typhoon pumps on lakes 82A and 82B.
- Flooding access ramp at KP 96. Culvert installation:
- 100m CSP drainage culvert (800 mm) installed: 20m at km 103.699, 21m at km 103.519, 25m at km 103.279 and 34m at km 109.480
- 45m CSP culvert (1200 mm) installed at km 99.062 Pit development:
- Winter road construction and maintenance continued to provide access to pit 170. - Winter access road construction to pit 174 under progress. - 3 blasts occurred at pit 170 in December.
Other:
- Approximately 92,160 m2 of geotextile material was installed from km 96.200 to 103.880 - Shut down for major works from December 21 to 28, 2014.
South
Embankment construction:
- Embankment construction continued to approximately km 5.70. - 16 trucks hauled material from I401A pit. - Survey, staking slope, stockpiling, and hauling embankment material is ongoing. - Approximately 67,000 m3 (estimated) hauled in December.
- Winter road construction:

- Continued maintaining all season access to I401A pit. Culvert installation:
- None Pit development:
- Moved overburden piles to pit corner as per the pit development plan. Others:
- Geotextile installed: None - Shut down for major works from December 22 to January 2, 2015.
Environmental Spills or Incidents/Safety: Spills:
- On December 2, about 1 litre hydraulic fluid spilled at the north spread. Contaminated snow/soil was hauled to EGT yard.
- A small leak from a packer at km 4 reported by operator. A mechanic was called immediately and repairs/clean-up completed.
Safety Incident:
- No incidents to report.
Quality Compliance:
- Material from Navy Road pit noted to contain large frozen lumps. Contractor responded positively. NCR # 4 closed.
- Lift thicknesses greater than 300mm noticed at locations in southern spread. Contractor responded positively. NCR # 5 closed.
- Material gradation from Navy Road pit out of specification. Contractor responded positively. NCR # 6 closed.
- Material gradation from I401A pit out of specification. Contractor responded positively. NCR # 7 closed.
- Material gradation for culvert backfill North spread out of spec. NCR # 8 in process.
Emerging Issues: - Revised Quality Control plan submitted by EGTNW. - Revised Quality Assurance plan uploaded to Buzzsaw. Both plans to be finalized by the end of January
2015.
- IFC drawing for the north roadway reviewed and comments sent to EGTNW. EGTNW responded back - under review.
- IFC drawing for south-roadway under review. - IFC drawing for south-structures to be submitted - EGTNW. - DOT is working with Environment Canada officials to review a sediment breach at 170 and apply
adaptive management approach. - Sedimentation and Erosion control implementation in progress on north and south sections. - Remediation Plan is in progress and a formal report to be produced.

Employment and Training: Employment
- 233 workers were employed during the month of December with 144 of the individuals working at the north end of the project and 79 individuals at the south end
- 158 of the employees were from the Inuvik region and NWT with 96 of the individuals working at the north site and 62 at the south site
- 29,921 days of employment have been achieved up to December 28, 2014 with 17,885 of the employment days delivered at the north site and 12,036 at the south site
- 21,919 (or 73%) of the total days of employment achieved up to December 28, 2014 were delivered by Inuvik Region and NWT residents with 12,813 days delivered at the north site and 9,116 at the south site.
- No. of ILA monitors = 2N/2S Training (North and South)
- Training is continuing for 1 administrative assistant, 1 HSE trainee, 2 apprentices (one first year
welder and one first year mechanic apprentice).
Communication:
- Monthly meeting conducted on December 10, 2014 via teleconference. - Quality Summit follow up meeting held on December 11, 2014. - Peter Clarkson, Director of Regional Operations for the Beaufort Delta and Sahtu; and Regional
Management Committee visited the site on December 18, 2014. - Next monthly meeting scheduled on January 28, 2015 in Inuvik. - A Belgium Reality show has expressed interest to visit the site this winter. - A SCEDI visit is planned for March, 2015.
