Derby Public Schools Launches “No One Eats Alone”

Derby Students arrived to be greeted by all staff in the schools sporting a red t-shirt with the logo and words “No One

Eat Alone” on the front of the shirt, signifying the kickoff of a new program that several education organizations hope to

launch across every district in the state. Logos of the partner organizations are displayed On the back of the shirt. –

Connecticut Education Association, Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents, Connecticut Association

of Schools/Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, Beyond Differences and Derby Public Schools

No One Eats Alone is a student-led lunchtime initiative. No One Eats Alone, Beyond Differences' most popular program,

is a stand-alone event that takes place during lunch at school. During your event, students make a difference on their

own school by making sure that everyone is included at lunch

and students sit with new friends and classmates.

Beyond Differences is carrying a simple message to cities across

this nation: We believe that a new day is dawning. A new day in

which all kids feel included, valued and accepted by their peers.

At Beyond Differences we are dedicated to helping teens and

schools make social inclusion the new reality.

Superintendent Conway said, while there is an official national

“No One Eats Alone” day in February, the message is every

student and staff member is paying attention to this every day

and all day, beginning on the first day.

CEA UniServe Representative Mr. Breen said, “As a parent, a

former teacher, and an advocate for the teaching profession,

I’m proud to see Derby’s teachers encouraging all students to

reach out to each other and build positive, caring

relationships.”

Dr. Nieoff, Executive Director "The Connecticut Association of Schools applauds the Derby Public Schools for their

commitment to the No One Eats Alone program. We know that loneliness can be a tremendous barrier to a child's

development- emotionally, socially, mentally and physically. Loneliness can be not only stressful, it can be lethal. To see

the Derby faculty and staff, in their entirety, dressed in their t-

shirts, excited to embrace this initiative is heartwarming. What

this initiative will do for any child who might feel alone will be

lifesaving. Congratulations Derby Public Schools!"
