SailingSailing is the main variety of yachting, and competitive sailing the main variety of yacht racing. A

sailing competition is known as a regatta, usually consists of multiple individual races, where the boat

that performs best in each race is the overall winner. There is a broad variety of kinds of races and

sailboats used for racing from large yacht to dinghy racing. Much racing is done around buoys or

similar marks in protected waters, while some longer offshore races cross open water. The Racing

Rules of Sailing govern the conduct of yacht racing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, model boat racing, dinghy racing and virtually any other form of racing around a course with more than one vessel while

 powered by the wind.

The Yachting Union of Latvia is the national governing body for the sport of sailing in

Latvia, recognised by the International Sailing Federation.

WakeboardingWakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over

the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing,

snowboarding, and surfing techniques. The rider is usually towed behind a motorboat, typically at speeds of 30 – 40 km/h

(18-25 mph), depending on the board size, rider's weight, type of tricks, and rider's

comfort. This speed could also depend on the year, make, and model of the boat

because some boats, which are not designed for wakeboarding, create a different size

wake which the rider may not feel comfortable with.

  anoe

A canoe is a lightweight narrow boat, typically pointed at both ends and open on top,

propelled by one or more seated or kneeling paddlers facing the direction of travel using a single-

bladed paddle. In some European countries, like the United Kingdom, the term canoe is often used for

both canoes and kayaks, with canoes called Canadian canoes then. This is seen in the InternationalCanoe Federationnomenclature. Canoeing is water sport on calm or stagnant water. As an individual

kind of sport canoeing formed in the end of 19th the century.

Canoes are used for  racing, whitewater canoeing, touring and camping, freestyle, and general

recreation. The intended use of the canoe dictates its hull shape and construction material.

Historically, canoes were dugouts or made of bark on a wood frame, but construction

materials evolved to canvas on a wood frame, then to aluminum. Most modern canoes are made of

molded plastic orcomposites such as fiberglass. Until the mid-1800s the canoe was an important

means of transport for exploration and trade, but then transitioned to recreational or sporting use.

Canoeing has been part of the Olympics since 1936.
