PROVIDE ENOUGHVENTILATION�

Pianos need ventilation, but thewrong kind of ventilation candamage them. The best locationfor your piano is in the center ofthe room or against a wall whichdivides two rooms. If possible,avoid placing it next to an exte-rior wall where outside weatherconditions might cause tonequality and volume to suffer. Ifthere is no other choice, how-ever, at least make sure that thepiano has adequate ventilation onall sides.

AVOID WINDOWS�

Try not to place the piano near awindow. Its cabinet is made ofwood and must be protectedagainst direct sunlight, humidityand sudden changes in tempera-ture. Windows which open onthe out-of doors offer the leastprotection. If you must place thepiano near a window use a heavycurtain over the window for pro-tection.

AVOID HEAT�

Keep the piano away fromsources of heat such as radiatorsor hot air registers. They maydamage the finish and internalparts causing tone and balance todeteriorate. Make sure that noradiant heat or hot air draftstrikes the piano directly.

ATTENTION AUXFENETRES�

Pianos work best and sound bestwhen the temperature and hu-midity are right. Proper ventila-tion is also important. Generallyspeaking, a relative humidity ofbetween 50 and 60 percent isideal for pianos. The use of ma-terials such as wood, felt andcloth in piano constructionmeans that many parts are quitedelicate. If not properly caredfor, they can be damaged easily.Therefore we are unable to as-sume responsibility for damageresulting from abuse or harshtreatment.

HOW HUMIDITYAFFECTS A PIANO�

Felt, cloth, leather and the preci-sion wood parts – some of themmachined to tolerances as fine as1/100 mm – used in such criticalparts of the piano as the actionare extremely sensitive to humid-ity. Too much humidity will re-sult in dull hammer action andunclear tones, rusting of internalparts and sticking keys. Beforethis happens the piano should berepaired.

HOW TO PROTECTAGAINST EXCESSIVEMOISTURE�

Your dealer can advise you howbest to compensate for climaticconditions in your area. How-ever, here are a few general tipsfor proper care. On cloudy orrainy days close all windows inthe piano room. Also, be sure toclose the top board each time af-ter playing. The piano’s thickcloth cover absorbs moisture indamp or rainy weather and shouldbe taken off and dried on cleardays. Be especially careful aboutexcessive moisture if you live inone of the following places:�Along a seacoast or in a

rainy or humid region.� In a valley, in a house facing

hills, or in an area with poordrainage.

� In a concrete building notmore than one or two yearsold.

� In an area where air exhaustsare directed into a room or ina dark, dank room.
