Period OneEgyptian EmpireTimelineEgyptian Empire6000BC In 6000BC early people settled in the Nile valley. Egyptians began to use clay and silt from the river to make pottery vessels like those in the museum gallery.

5000BC Around 5000BC many Egyptians farmed sheep and cattle. Some Egyptians grew wheat and barley on the fertile land on the Nile valley.

4500BCAround 4500BC, sails were used on Egyptian ships for the first time. Boats were the main form of transport in Ancient Egypt.

3500BCAround 3500BC craftsmen began to create the first wall paintings using hieroglyphic symbols in the Egyptian writing system. You can see some examples of these in Gallery 34 at the museum.

3000BCAround 3000BC walled towns and villages were built in Egypt. The first buildings were made of mud brick. At the museum you can see a terracotta model of an Ancient Egyptian House

2500BCAround 2500BC Egyptians built the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramid at Giza.2500BC to 2000BC was the 'Old Kingdom' period.

1550BCIt was around 1550BC that many of the royal tombs were built in the Valley of the Kings. 1500BC - 332BC was the period of the 'New Kingdom'.

1325BCAround 1325BC, King Tutankhamen was buried in the Valley of the Kings. In 1922 his tomb was discovered, inside were wonderful treasures and the mummy of the Pharaoh covered by a beautiful gold death mask.

332BCIn 332BC Egypt was invaded by Alexander the Great and was then ruled by Greek Kings. The era of the New Kingdom ends.

Pharaohs came to power through succession; if someones father or mother was the previous pharaoh, then they are next in line for the throne.Although Egypt went through many drastic changes as far as wars and treaties go, Egypt was always ruled by a pharaoh, up until Cleopatra, the last pharaoh.

Years later the New Kingdom also known as the Egyptian Empire (1570-1070BC) had begun. Fall of the EmpireThe empire came to an end when the Persian conquest had begun. It was called The Battle of Pelusium, It was fought between Achaemenid Empire and of course Egypt. It was fought near Pelusium in 525 BCE and with this win the Achaemenid empire took the throne of pharaoh. But they governed Egypt as a country. The Battle Of Kadesh: The Egyptian Empire was under the control of Ramesses II. Generally dated to1274 BC this battle is known as one of the earliest recorded battles. Also, it was possible the largest chariot battle (5,000-6,000). Later, in 1259 BC, the two Empires signed a treaty that established peace between the two parties. And is known as the oldest WRITTEN treaty (not oldest known). --------------------->

A typical jar that was used for water or import obsidian.

Symbolized the unification of the two lands.

Pharaohs were drawn & symbolized to show royalty and power.

Writing came along, they have over a hundred symbols that mean a letter, sound & a symbol can serve 2 different purpose.
