    The performance measurement revolution started in the late 1970s with

    the dissatisfaction of traditional backward looking accounting systems.

    Performance management system is nowadays very crucial activity in

    human resource department. Earlier it was known as performance

    appraisal and was a part of personnel management.

    Performance management includes activities which ensure that goals are

    consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. Performance

    management can focus on the performance of an organization, a

    department, employee, or even the processes to build a product of

    service, as well as many other areas.

    Lockett (1992), The essence of performance management is the

    development of individuals with competence and commitment,

    working towards the achievement of shared meaningful objectives

    within an organization which supports and encourages theirachievement.

    According to Armstrong and Murlis, (1994)Performance management

    is a means of getting better results from the organization, teams and

    individuals within an agreed framework of planned goals, objectives

    and standards.

    Performance management is also known as a process by

    which organizations align their resources, systems and

    employees to strategic objectives and priorities. Asystematic approach to improving individuals and team

    performance in order to achieve organizational goals.

    further achievement.

    increasing, its very important to develop employee oriented or talent

    oriented organization where learning is available at every stage.

    Nowadays employees are concerning about their enhancement ofknowledge skill & attitude. So if any organization want to make their

    organization employee oriented than they are required to be employee

    friendly & there is urgent need to make performance management

    system effective & bias free so that organization can win their

    employeesfaith and there can be a win win situation for both the parties

    with healthy work environment.
