A Message From Your 2018 OrilliaKiwanis Music Festival Committee

Welcome to the Sixtieth Annual Orillia Kiwanis Music Festival! We hope you enjoy your experience at the Festival, whether you are a performer, a parent, a teacher, or a volunteer. We are grateful to all of you for taking part in our Festival and making it the continuing success that it is today.

We would like to take this time to thank the many donors for our grants and bursaries; the financial help we can extend to our young performers is an important part of the Festival every year.

We are fortunate in Orillia to have many fine venues to showcase music and drama and we thank all our venues for recognizing the importance of our Festival and the opportunities it affords for young performers in our area.

Again this year we have seasoned and professional adjudicators for our performers to learn from. We are grateful that these excellent musicians have taken the time to be part of our Festival and share some of the invaluable knowledge and experience they have in the arts world. Our students are indeed lucky to have this exposure to these professional performers.

Lastly, a big thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Orillia for its ongoing support for the Festival, both financially and in terms of volunteers. We are fortunate to have such a dynamic and thriving Club in Orillia and fortunate too that our Kiwanis Club understands the importance of the arts in our students’ lives.

Please enjoy this year’s Orillia Kiwanis Music Festival. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, or would be interested in helping out with the Festival in any way, please contact our Festival Registrar at [email protected] and you will be directed to the appropriate person on our committee.

Don’t miss ‘Festival Encores’ our showcase concert, this year on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Orillia Opera House.

A Message From the MayorOn behalf of Orillia City Council, we would like to congratulate the Kiwanis Music Festival as it marks its 60th anniversary. Certainly a milestone to be very proud of.

Over the years, the festival has showcased many wonderful performers and brought a spotlight to Orillia.

I would like to acknowledge the event organizers, supporters, volunteers and all of the talented performers, as preparing for the festival certainly takes a lot of practice, preparation and dedication. The Kiwanis Music Festival is a great opportunity to showcase talent from Orillia and surrounding municipalities.

Orillia boasts a vibrant downtown with many unique shops and restaurants, a beautiful waterfront, pristine parks and trails, and has a strong arts and culture community. While in Orillia, I encourage you to explore all that we have to offer – from our many shops and restaurants in Downtown Orillia to our beautiful parks and historic sites.

Best wishes as you celebrate 60 years of the Kiwanis Music Festival.

Sincerely,Steve Clarke

A Message From the Festival PresidentWow, 60 years! The Orillia Kiwanis Music Festival (OKMF) has been a fixture of the Orillia and area community for six decades. What a milestone! In some families, three generations of performers have been in the Festival. Perhaps some of our many teachers and volunteers recall their time on stage, and the feedback and encouragement they received from their adjudicator.

For six decades the Festival has enjoyed the support of many talented performers, dedicated teachers, proud parents, encouraging adjudicators, generous facility managers and staff, community sponsors, and selfless volunteers. On behalf of the Festival Committee, thank you. Thank you for your time, your hard work and your dedication. This Festival shines because of each and every one of you.

As you read through the programme, please note the advertisements from our community sponsors. I encourage you to visit their places of business. The Festival would simply not be possible without their generous support each year.

A word of thanks to the dedicated OKMF committee: they work tirelessly to bring you a world-class Festival experience.

If you are interested in volunteering as a greeter or session secretary, making a monetary dona t i on , o r adve r t i s i ng i n nex t y ea r ’ s p r og r amme , p l e a se v i s i t www.orilliakiwanismusicfestival.com, and welcome aboard!

Whether you are participating, volunteering, or simply enjoying the show, have a great time, and as always...Viva La Música!
