Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!

This coming Friday is First Fri-day, a day in which we specifical-ly honor and make reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Every-one is encouraged to attend Mass

this day. I also encourage everyone to consider stopping by Church to make a Holy Hour during our all-night vigil. Please find a sign-up sheet near the side door of the Church to sign up for an hour of Adoration. Getting back to our teachings from St. Francis de Sales, please find this quote regarding sadness. In the world today, it is easy to fall into sadness, which can be very detrimental to the spiritual life. We should always be aware of this possibility, so that we do not allow anything to steal away from us that supernatural spirit of joy that we are called to have. Have a blessed week ahead!

"Saint Paul says that "godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of, but the sorrow of the world worketh death." So we see that sorrow may be good or bad according to the several results it produces in us. And indeed there are more bad than good results arising from it, for the only good ones are mercy and repentance; whereas there are six evil results, namely, anguish, sloth, indignation, jealousy, envy and impatience. The Wise Man says that "sorrow hath killed many, and there is no

profit therein,"and that because for the two good streams which flow from the spring of sadness, there are these six which are downright evil. The Enemy makes use of sadness to try good men with his temptations:--just as he tries to make bad men merry in their sin, so he seeks to make the good sorrowful amid their works of piety; and while making sin attractive so as to draw men to it, he strives to turn them from holiness by making it disagreeable. The Evil One delights in sadness and melancholy, because they are his own characteristics. He will be in sadness and sorrow through all Eternity, and he would fain have all others the same. The "sorrow of the world" disturbs the heart, plunges it into anxiety, stirs up unreasonable fears, dis-gusts it with prayer, overwhelms and stupefies the brain, deprives the soul of wisdom, judgment, resolution and courage, weakening all its powers; in a word, it is like a hard winter, blasting all the earth's beauty, and numbing all animal life; for it deprives the soul of sweetness and power in every faculty. Should you, my child, ever be attacked by this evil spirit of sadness, make use of the following remedies. "Is any among you afflicted?" says Saint James, "let him pray."Prayer is a sovereign remedy, it lifts the mind to God, Who is our only Joy and Consolation. But when you pray let your words and affections, whether interior or exterior, all tend to love and trust in God. 'O God of Mercy, most Loving Lord, Sweet Saviour, Lord of my heart, my Joy, my Hope, my Beloved, my Bridegroom.'" - St. Francis de Sales

First Friday - Friday, September 1 First Friday is this coming Friday. Please join us for a Low Latin Mass at 7:00 p.m. followed by our all-night Vigil!Oktoberfest Mass - Sunday, September 17 On Sunday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m., Old St. Mary’s Church is honored to host the annual Oktoberfest Mass. Music for this very special celebration will be pro-vided by the Musikverein Ruderatshofen from Bavaria, who will play later in the afternoon at the Downtown Oktoberfest. Fellowship will follow Mass, and all are invited to partake. Thanks to all those who arranged for this Mass to take place and to the Freunde der Allgäuer Blaskapellen for their ongoing support of the local Ger-man heritage and of Old St. Mary’s Church.Adoration Sign-up Unfortunately, for the second time, the Adoration sign-up sheet disappeared from Church. Someone is work-ing overtime to undermine our Adoration! May we not lose faith, however. If you are available to fill any of our hours; in particular, on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., please contact the Parish Office.Sick Visits If you, or someone in your immediate family, is plan-ning to have major surgery, or is hospitalized for any reason, please contact Bro. Brent at [email protected], if a visit from one of our Priests is desired. He and Fr. Lawrence have begun visiting the sick of the Parish and would be happy to visit those temporarily in the hospital, as well. Please give some advance notice, if possible, for scheduling purposes.Parents' Holy Hour - Children's Play Group Join our Pray and Play group! This is a group of parents who meet Tuesdays from 9:30 until 11:30 in Father Felten Hall. Children get to play and parents take turns covering the Adoration hour from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church. This allows parents some quiet time alone in Adoration or the chance to take children into Adoration for a shorter time period. This is a good opportunity to introduce Children to the De-votion of Adoration. Tuesday Parish Holy Hour - 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. we are here making a Holy Hour. The Rosary begins at 7:30 and Confession is heard until 8:15. Benediction is at 8:30 p.m. Please join us, especially if you cannot commit to a regular Holy Hour!

Children and Adult Tuesday Catechism Catechism Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 19 for all the children and adults of the Parish. We will have classes for children from 2nd grade through High School, as well as all adults. We are currently finalizing our plan for the upcoming year; but mark this date down now! For adults, the focus will be on the History of the Reformation from September until Christmas break. Please join us in learning about our Faith!Talking in Church Please remember the Church is the House of God. It is important to remember that in Church, we are in His presence. Please try to maintain a prayerful spirit, also being respectful of others who come for a few moments of quiet prayer. There is much noise and talking in the world. The Church is our refuge into silence, to which Cardinal Sarah calls us. Please keep talking to a mini-mum; and talk to the Lord in the silence of your own heart.Sunday Adoration and Vespers Sunday Adoration and Vespers have concluded for the summer. We will resume on September 17.Social after Sunday Mass Everyone is welcome to Fr. Felten Hall following the 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Masses every Sunday.

PREGNANCY CENTER NEWS

"Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first mo-ment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jer. 1:5 ) “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in se-cret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth” (Ps. 139:15). Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable."-- Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 2270-2271We are trying to save the lives of unborn children, who are in danger of abortion at Old St. Mary’s Pregnancy Center. If you might be interested in helping with this important pro-life work, please give Terri a call at (513) 929-9165.
