What is it?The Osteogenesis Imperfecta also known as brittle bone disease, makes weaken bones and causes them to break easily without any apparent cause. OI can also cause other problems such as weak muscles.

What causes the osteogenesis imperfecta?

OI is a genetic defect in the bones. Genes contain all the information about our family similar and are the cause of the similarity between members of the same family . Everyone has two copies of each gene, one from each parent.

Each of the genes is related to the production of collagen in the body .Collagen is the material that helps keep bones strong.When these genes stop working it is not enough collagen produced does not work properly.This causes the bones to weaken and break easily .

People with osteogenesis imperfecta have brittle bones. OI can range from mild to severe and symptoms are different in each person. Some of the symptoms that could show people with osteogenesis imperfecta are:

What are the simtoms of the osteogenesis imperfecta

There are eight types of OI .People with type 1 tend to have mild symptoms. People with types 4, 5 and 6 usually have mild symptoms . People with Type 2 , 3, 7 and 8 tend to have severe symptoms . Previously , it was thought that there were 4 types of OI but scientists found that even the symptoms that appear to be the same in a group of patients , problems can be caused by different genes. That is why we now talk about eight, not four types of osteogenesis imperfecta.
