100th ANNIVERSARYIn 2019, the New England Roentgen Ray Society will celebrate the 100th year of its founding. In honor of this celebra-tion, we are launching the “$100 for 100” campaign. We ask you to donate $100 to the society in honor of a New England Radiologist who was important in your development.

• Did you have a favorite teacher in your New England residency program?

• Was there someone who inspired your decision to become a radiologist?

• Did you have a mentor in a New England radiology department who nurtured your career?

Honor that person by making a donation to NERRS in their name. Especially for our retired members, your tribute shows that their influence lives on in our profession.

When you donate, the society will recognize these nominees in our centennial commemorative book and NERRS website along with a thank you card with your name.

The “$100 for 100” campaign supports our Society into its next 100 years by emphasizing the ties that bind us together: the assistance, teaching, mentorship, and guidance that support the transformation of inexperienced residents into confident radiologists.

Join us by honoring those who assisted you on your journey!

Page 6: New England Roentgen Ray Society, Inc. · 100th ANNIVERSARY In 2019, the New England Roentgen Ray Society will celebrate the 100th year of its founding. In honor of this celebra-tion,

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to the 98th year of the New England Roentgen Ray Society! In keeping with our tradition, the planning committee has organized a full roster of education with something for everyone over the course of the 2017–18 year.

Education Committee Co-chairs Drs. Amy Juliano, Delma Jarett, and Mahan Mathur have organized excellent Friday sessions in Musculoskeletal Imaging, Neuroradiology, Women’s Imaging, GI/GU Radiology, and Pediatric Imaging. In addition, Drs. H. Benjamin Harvey and Pamela Schaefer from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) have once again agreed to co-host a Career Forum with NERRS in October. Leaders of New England radiology practices will discuss the current job market outlook, what it takes to be success-ful in a radiology career, and Malpractice Myths and Realities.

As piloted by Dr. diFlorio-Alexander and instituted by Dr. Soto during his year as Society president, our film panels are now audi-ence participation. True to our mission of connecting New England radiologists, we group attendees into teams to take the cases together, with our invited speakers serving as mentors. Radiology is a technical world but these team events allow us to experience the benefit of in-person meetings — the opportunity to meet new people and take on challenges together.

Our annual refresher course will be offered on Saturday, March 3, 2018, with faculty from throughout New England. I am grateful to Drs. Lourenco, diFlorio-Alexander, Slanetz, Demetri-Lewis, and Hooley for putting together another excellent series of talks.

This past year, our prior president, Dr. Jorge Soto inaugurated the New England Roentgen Ray Core Review Course. Drs. Harp Bedi,

Stacy Smith, and Roberta diFlorio-Alexander recruited a fantastic faculty to give 15-minute, intense, image-rich review talks. Multiple attendees commented that it was great preparation for the Core Exam. Our Second Annual Core Review Course will take place beginning Saturday, May 5, and concluding Monday, May 7.

This year we begin preparation for the 100th Anniversary of our Society, which started in 1919. Our 100th Anniversary Gala will take place on March 23, 2019. As part of that planning process we want to particularly honor the great educators that have made our region an unparalleled training environment. This year we launch our “$100 for 100” campaign. We ask you to con-sider giving $100 to the Society in honor of a New England radiol-ogist who taught you, encouraged your career, or mentored your advancement. Your donation helps us to educate residents who sit in the same seats in the same departments as the one where you were first trained. Your gift brings your teachers’ legacy to life.

The New England Roentgen Ray Society is a unique institution in its focus on education and the betterment of New England radiol-ogists. I am honored to participate in its great traditions and look forward to a fantastic year.

Sincerely,
