Quand on demande à Nemanja Radulović d’expliquer le choix de Paganini pour ce nouveaudisque, la réponse est spontanée et simple : « changer un peu son image, montrer qu’il n’estpas seulement le compositeur de la virtuosité ». Car si Paganini doit sa réputation à satechnique instrumentale inégalée, Nemanja Radulović voit aussi, à travers cette musique, uncompositeur qui a permis aux violonistes de se sentir un peu plus proches de la voix humaine.« Avec tous les phrasés qu’il a par exemple écrits dans le Concerto, j’avais vraimentl’impression d’être dans un opéra, d’avoir les différents actes, j’imaginais des sopranos, desténors… » s’enthousiasme Nemanja en soulignant l’extrême richesse musicale de Paganini, eten vantant une écriture particulièrement vive et réaliste, teintée de nostalgie, de mélancolie,mais sachant aussi exprimer le bonheur. « Un artiste hors du commun », précise encore Nemanja Radulović. Pour sa virtuosité, maisaussi par la capacité de sa musique à ne laisser personne indifférent. « C’est une musique qu’ilfaut communiquer. Elle ne peut pas se jouer juste pour nous. Elle parle vraiment à tout lemonde. Il est important de juste se laisser aller dès qu’on commence la première note, pourtout donner » explique Nemanja, en soulignant d’une part l’aspect humain de cette musique, etde l’autre ce côté très dur, où il faut résister jusqu’au bout. Une musique qui repousse leslimites.Paganini restera évidemment à jamais associé aux 24 Caprices qu’il a composés. « Chaquevioloniste est à un moment confronté à au moins l’un de ces Caprices » souligne NemanjaRadulović, qui pour sa part reconnaît les travailler presque tous les jours. Il en choisit un oudeux qui l’accompagnent pendant plusieurs semaines. Histoire notamment d’avoir toujours lamain gauche en forme. Pour ce disque, Nemanja a enregistré les numéros 5, 11 et 24. Ceux qui lui ont laissé le plusd’impressions au concert, mais aussi pendant ses études et les concours. Il aime également leparallèle entre les tonalités : do majeur pour le 11e, la mineur pour le 5e et le 24e. C’est le 5e

A travers ses concerts et avec ses enregistrements, Nemanja Radulović s’adresse résolument àun public de jeunes mélomanes. Ses interprétations et sa présence scénique attisent les salles.

Après avoir été consacré « Révélation internationale de l’année » lors des Victoires de lamusique (Prix du MIDEM) et nommé « Rising Star », il se produit dans les salles les plusprestigieuses: Carnegie Hall de New York, Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, Philharmonie deBerlin, le Mégaron d’Athènes, Salle Pleyel and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées à Paris, Palais desBeaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Opera House de Tokyo, Suntory Hall...En 2006, il remplace au pied leve Maxim Vengerov dans le Concerto de Beethoven, SallePleyel, avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France et Myung-Whun Chung.

Un Caprice que Nemanja vit comme un défi : celui d’arriver jusqu’au bout.« On n’a pas envie de lâcher prise, ça va très vite ! » Le 11e lui fait penser à Bach. « Uneouverture très lyrique, avec de grands accords ». Quant au 24e, qui clôt la programmation, ilest le plus connu. « Le thème a été repris par énormément de compositeurs. C’est déjà unesorte de variation rapsodie » commente Nemanja qui a par ailleurs sélectionné Moses Fantasy,la célèbre Variation sur la Corde de Sol. Une œuvre qui le relie, là encore, à son enfance,précisément à son premier concours international en Italie à Stresa. Il avait neuf ans. C’était lapremière fois qu’il jouait Paganini… Et d’ailleurs il a retrouvé la vidéo de ce concours. « C’esttrès drôle de voir un petit gamin jouer cette pièce. Quand on est enfant on se pose beaucoupmoins de questions. A neuf ans, les côtés un peu techniques et virtuoses, ça passe assez bien.Et après, quand on devient adolescent, quand on fait des Conservatoires, ça devient beaucoupplus difficile » se souvient Nemanja. La version de Moses Fantasy a été enregistrée avec la pianiste Laure Favre-Khan et l’ensembleà cordes les Trilles du Diable, sur un arrangement du compositeur Aleksandar Sedlar. Car cedisque est aussi une affaire de fidélité. Il y a dix ans que Nemanja Radulović joue avec lesTrilles du Diable et Laure Favre-Kahn. Quant à Aleksandar Sedlar il est l’auteur de Spring inJapan 2011 : la cinquième saison du précédent disque de Nemanja. Le choix du chef japonais Eiji Oue ne s’est pas fait non plus au hasard. C’est une rencontre quiremonte au dernier concours passé par Nemanja. Le jour de ses 18 ans à Hanovre. Au programmeà l’époque : le concerto de Beethoven. Depuis, les deux artistes se sont produits ensemble. « Ildonne tout, il fait partie des chefs qui sont aujourd’hui les plus grands, parce qu’ils dépassentla direction d’orchestre. Il me fait jouer et il fait jouer chaque pupitre, jusqu’au dernier »explique Nemanja. Ensemble, avec l’Orchestre de la Raï, ils ont choisi le Concerto n°1, celuidans lequel Nemanja a justement tout particulièrement ressenti cette extraordinaire proximitéentre le violon et la voix humaine.

Son disque « Les Trilles du Diable », paru en 2009 sous le label ArtAct -Decca/Universal(Kreisler, Sarasate, Schubert, Wieniawski et Tartini) reçoit de nombreuses récompensesinternationales : « Choc » de Classica, « Clé » de Res Musica, « Recommended » by the Strad,« Supersonic » de Pizzicato... Il sort en 2010 pour ce même label un disque Beethoven avecSusan Manoff puis à l’automne 2011, l’album des « 5 Saisons »: les 4 Saisons de Vivaldi avecson ensemble Double Sens et une œuvre en première mondiale d’Aleksandar Sedlar « Springin Japan » avec son ensemble Les Trilles du Diable. Un immense succès salué par la critiqueinternationale et confirmé auprès du grand public.

Né en Serbie en 1985, Nemanja Radulović a commencé ses études musicales en 1992, et aobtenu dès 1996 le Prix d’Octobre pour la musique de la Ville de Belgrade puis, en 1997, lePrix Spécial du Ministère de l’Education de la République Serbe « Talent de l’année 1997 ». Ila participé à des master-class avec Yehudi Menuhin, Salvatore Accardo, ainsi que JoshuaEpstein, auprès duquel il étudie en 1998, au Conservatoire de Musique de Saarbrücken, etDejan Mihailovic, dont il intègre la classe en 1999, à la Faculté des Arts de Belgrade. Il s’estinstallé en France à l’âge de quatorze ans et s’est perfectionné auprès de Patrice Fontanarosaau CNSMD de Paris.

Nemanja Radulović a été nommée « Docteur Honoris Causa » par l’université des arts de Nisen Serbie.

here, it is the most well-known: “The theme has been picked up by an enormous number ofcomposers. It’s already a kind of rhapsody variation,” comments Nemanja, who also chose toinclude the Moses Fantasy, the famous Variation on the G String; this work also takes him backto his childhood, more precisely to his first international competition in Stresa, Italy. He wasnine years old. It was the first time that he played Paganini… And incidentally, he’s found avideo of that competition: “It’s quite funny seeing a little kid playing this piece. When you’rea child, you don’t ask yourself half as many questions. When you’re nine years old, the aspectsthat are a bit technical and virtuoso, they all go down rather well. But afterwards, when you’rea teenager at the Conservatory, that’s when it becomes a lot more difficult,” remembersNemanja.

This version of Moses Fantasy was recorded with pianist Laure Favre-Khan and the string-ensembleLes Trilles du Diable, over an arrangement by the composer Aleksandar Sedlar. This record isalso about fidelity: Nemanja Radulović has been playing with the Trilles du Diable and LaureFavre-Kahn for a decade... As for Aleksandar Sedlar, he wrote Spring in Japan 2011, the fifthseason of Nemanja‘s previous recording. Nor was the choice of Japanese conductor Eiji Oue a coincidence. Their meeting dates back toNemanja‘s last competition — in Hannover, the day was his 18th birthday — and the programmewas the concerto by Beethoven. Since then, both artists have appeared together: “He giveseverything; he’s one of those conductors who are today the greatest, because they go beyondconducting the orchestra. He makes me play, and he makes each and every instrument play,right down to the last,” explains Nemanja. Together with the RAI Orchestra they chose theConcerto N°1, precisely the concerto where Nemanja could particularly feel that extraordinaryproximity between the violin and the human voice.

When Nemanja Radulović was asked the reason why he chose Paganini for this new record, hedidn’t hesitate in giving this simple answer: “To change his image a little, and show that he’smore than the virtuoso composer.” For while Paganini indeed owes his reputation to hisunrivalled instrumental technique, in his music Nemanja Radulović also sees a composer whoenabled violinists to feel closer to the human voice. “With all the phrasing that he wrote in thisconcerto, for example, I really had the impression that I was in an opera; I had the differentActs, and I could imagine the sopranos, the tenors…” Nemanja enthusiastically underlines theextreme musical richness in Paganini; he vaunts his particularly vivid, realistic writing, tintedwith nostalgia and melancholy, yet also capable of expressing happiness. “He was extraordinary as an artist,” went on Nemanja Radulović. Not only in hisvirtuosity, but also in his music’s ability to leave no-one indifferent, “It’s music that needsto be communicated. You can’t play it just for yourself. It really talks to everyone. It’s importantto just let yourself go, as soon as you play that first note; you have to give it everything youhave,” explained Nemanja, emphasizing the human aspect of the music on one hand, and alsoits very difficult side where one has to resist until the very end. This is music which driveslimits back.Paganini, obviously, will always remain associated with the 24 Caprices he composed. “Atsome point, every violinist confronts at least one of these Caprices,” stresses Radulović, who admitsto working on them almost every day: he chooses one or two of them, and they accompany him forseveral weeks. It’s his way of keeping his left hand in shape. For this record, Nemanja has recorded the Caprices numbers 5, 11 and 24. These are the oneswhich have left the deepest impressions on him in concerts, but also during his studies and incompetitions. He also likes the parallel drawn between their keys: C major for N°11, A minorfor N°5 and N°24. The record begins with the 5th, a Caprice which Nemanja sees as a challenge:to reach its conclusion. “You don’t want to let go; it all goes so fast!” N°11 makes him think ofBach, “a very lyrical overture, with great chords.” As for the 24th, which closes his programme
