Yates Construction Awarded Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van Manufacturing Facility September 22, 2016

North Charleston, South Carolina – Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC has selected Yates Construction and Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon, Inc. to provide design-build services for its new South Carolina plant expansion. The project will support the production of its next generation of Sprinter Vans. Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC marked the exciting start of its new Sprinter plant in a groundbreaking ceremony on July 27, 2016. Among the distinguished guests of the ceremony on-site were Volker Mornhinweg, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans Division, and Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina. The new plant is an expansion of the existing van assembly site. It represents an investment of around $500 million dollars and will create up to 1,300 jobs. In addition to its direct job impact, it is estimated that supporting suppliers will create approximately 400 new jobs in and around North Charleston. The current production area and administration building of the assembly plant in North Charleston covers 409,000 square feet (approx. 38,000 m²). The new production facility will be more than double the current production site, and more than triple the total current site size. Construction will begin with the body shop followed by the paint shop and the assembly lines later this year.
