»monRead Ephesians 5:8. Now

that you’re in the light, what

is your responsibility to those

still in darkness? Thank God

for the light He shines on

people who are in darkness.

»

tuesSometimes people fall into

the trap of believing lies

because they don’t know

the truth. Ask God to help

you recognize the difference

between truth and lies.

»wed Read out loud to yourself

Ephesians 5:6-17. Choose

one verse to memorize—

and apply. Thank God that

you don’t have to walk in

darkness, but you can walk in

His light.

»thursRead Ephesians 5:6-10. List some of the

“empty words” that have recently tricked

you. Ask God for a sincere desire to

know His truth as well as what pleases

Him.

»friRead Ephesians 5:16. Plan a tentative

time schedule for tomorrow, prayerfully

considering how you can make

the “most of every oppor tunity,”

especially when it’s the weekend!

»satRead Ephesians 5:8 again. To live as a

child of light, you need to be aware of the

lies of the darkness. Ask your minister or

another mature Christian what he or she

considers the most dangerous spiritual

lies currently being spread by people.

For you wereonce darkness, but now you arelight in the Lord.Live as children

of light.—Ephesians 5:8

Light

The Bible says that Satan can

appear like an angel of light.

So how can we tell the light of

truth from mere shadows? The

main thing is to know the light

source so well that we won’t be

deceived by holograms. Which of

these quotes are truths from God,

our light source; and which arethings that sound good, but are

really lies?

 Answers:

1. Lie: Ben Franklin said this, and it is directly opposed to Scripture, see Rom. 5:8

2. Light: This is a paraphrase of Eph. 5:123. Lie: This is a popular quote by Marianne Williamson, used frequently in inspirational movies.

Williamson herself believes in personal empowerment, as well as a combination of Christianity,

Judaism, Zen Buddhism, and “New Thought” spiritualism. This quote sounds good, but Scripture

says that our “deepest fear” is having our inner darkness exposed to the light of Christ—John

1; Eph 5:8

4. Light: lyric from the Switchfoot song, “Gone.” See 1 Cor. 7:29-31

5. Light: quote from Madeleine L’Engle, see Job 40—41 and 1 Cor 1:18-25

6. Lie: This is a common excuse to justify sinful behavior. Sin often feels good, and it might not

have obvious, immediate harm, but in the end it will always corrupt the soul. When we try to cir-

cumvent God’s law with our own excuses, there will always be consequences. See Prov. 14:12

You shouldn’teven talk  about thesinful thingsthat people doprivately. 2

Our deepest fear is not that weare inadequate. Our deepest fearis that we are powerful beyondmeasure. It is our light, not ourdarkness that most frightens us.…The glory of God is within us. Andas we let our own light shine, weunconsciously give other peoplepermission to do the same. 3

She said he said, “Live likeno tomorrow.

Think of a deep dark sin that you’re ashamed of. Take a  black pen and write that sin  below,

where it’s all  black.

One definition of integrity might  be

“ living the same way when

no body’s watching.” If everyone

cou ld see your private actions, what wou ld

they think of them? As mature fo l lowers of

Christ, we are asked to  live consistently,

as if we were a lways in the light.

Doesn’t show, right? It would show q uite clearly.

 What if you were to

write that sin over

here in the  light?

“For you were oncedarkness, but now

Lord. Live as children

you are light in the

—Ephesians 5:8of light.”
