Austin, Texas-Over the river and
through the woods we went to
the state basketball tournament
in Austin. But his time we were
behind the wheel of the 2013 all-
new Lexus GS 350 and man let
me tell you it was some ride.
Yes the new Lexus is out early
with the 3.5 Liter V6 with direct
injection and port fuel injection
cranking out 306 horsepower
and 277 lbs per foot of torque.
Good mid-size numbers of 19 in
the city and 28 on the highway
with a combine mileage of 23
miles per gallon. The engine is
mated to a six-speed sequential
shift electronically controlled
transmission with intelligence
(ECT-I and paddle shifters/drive
mode select. The new Lexus is
equipped with front independent
double-wishbone and independ-
ent multi-link rear suspension
with gas pressurized shock
absorbers and stabilizer bar.
Vehicle speed sensing power
steering adds to what is already
super handling. Four wheel
power assisted disc brakes
brings this baby to a super safe
and swift stop. That four- sensor
four- channel anti-lock braking
system with electronic brake-
force distribution and brake
assist makes stopping as much
fun as taking off. All of this
comes thrusting to the pavement
on 17 inch nine-spoke Alloy
wheels neatly wrapped by P
225/50R 17 inch performing
tires.
In addition to all the normal
safety features the new Lexus is
equipped with whiplash injury
lessening front seats and driver
and front passenger knee air
bags. Other features such as
VSC, ABS and brake assist and
TRAC to name a few. Daytime
running lamps along with Bi-
xenon headlamps just round out
the state-of-the-art safety tech-
nology for this model.
Once you are inside the new
Lexus GS 350 you come face to
face with perforated leather
trimmed interior with 10-way
memory driver power adjustable
seats. Smart access keyless entry
and push button start/stop. Sure
the steering wheel and gear shift
knob are leather wrapped. Other
standard features include a
power tilt/slide moon roof with
one touch open/close.
When it comes to sounds you
know to look for an optional
Mark Levinson Premium
Surround Sound Audio system
with 17-speakers with 835 watts
with 7.1 channel architecture
digital amplifier and Green Edge
speaker technology. A special
HDD navigation with 12.3 inch
high resolution split screen mul-
timedia display and Lexus
Enform with destination along
with Nav weather, Nav traffic
sports and stocks. There is even
a pre-collision system and
dynamic radar cruise.
We could go on and on about the
new Lexus GS 350 but we think
you’ve read enough to check
them out at your Lexus Dealers!

Toyota came to America in 1958
and since that time the automak-
er has became more American as
the years have gone by. Fact is
their Georgetown Kentucky
plant is cranking out many vehi-
cles these days. Not to mention
Toyota’s Truck plant in San
Antonio, Texas is turning out
Tundra Trucks by the boat loads
as well. But to the matter at
hand, the Camry is all new for
2012 and they call it a reinvent-
ed vehicle that for years has
been number one in the market
place. The Camry styling has
been flavored more toward
sports packages with fancy look-
ing air dams up front and the
wider stance certainly is very
appealing. A set of fog lamps
and sport mean front grille with
integrated front and rear under-
body spoilers along with side
rocker panel and rear spoiler.
Please don’t forget those chrome
tip exhaust pipes that really
reminds you of the classic 1970s
sports cars.
Yet Toyota had done a wonder-
ful job of holding the price
down as well with our test vehi-
cle very well equipped came in
at just over $31,000.
Economically the Camry four-
door SE V6 Sedan we tested is
powered by a 3.5 Liter V6
DOHC 24 valve with dual VVT-
I engine with plenty of power.
However it still manages to get
21 miles per gallon in the city
and 30 miles per gallon on the
highway. A six-speed automatic
transmission with paddle shifters
makes for smooth operation
from one gear to the next. Power
meets the road on P 225/45R
18” tires circulating around
Alloy wheels. With sport-tuned
electric power steering and a
sport-tuned suspension including
spring and shock absorbers this
baby handles like vehicles in the
50-grand range.
Noted for doing a lot of research
and developing before putting a
product on the road Toyota took
their time before they rebuilt the
Camry and it shows. Every little
detail was well thought of before
its application took place.
The Sound system is one of the
best in the business. The JBL,
and those of you who have fol-
lowed our columns over the
year, know this is one of my
favorites. This system makes
you feel you are in the studio
when the recording was done.
With 10 speakers in eight loca-
tions you get the concert sound
all over the vehicle. Once again
Toyota has stepped up to the
plate and smacked a home run
with the new Camry.
This time around we took a
stroll in the new 2012 Toyota
Yaris 5-Dr. SE liftback and
found it to be quite a quality
economically sound buy. Fact is
the vehicle we tested was pretty
well equipped and came in at
just over $18, 00. Powered by a
peppy little 1.5 Liter DOHC 16
valve four-cylinder VVT-I
engine that’s matted to a four-
speed automatic transmission.
We are talking about a unit that
cranks out 30 miles per gallon in
the city and 35 miles per gallon
on the highway. This front wheel
drive vehicle has good traction
and moves well in and out of
Houston’s big time traffic with
ease. A sport tuned independent
Macpherson strut front suspen-
sion with stabilizer bar and tor-
sion beam rear suspension mak-
ing handling fun. Sport tuned
electric power steering simply
gives the driver a big time sense
of control when behind the
wheel.
Safety comes in at a high level
for a vehicle in this class with
star safety system including
VSC, TRAC and anti-lock brake
system, EBD, Brake Assist and
Smart Stop Technology. The
automobile comes with nine air
bags plus tire pressure monitor-
ing system and engine immobi-
lizer.
Inside the Yaris Toyota made
sure you feel good with leather
wrapped steering wheel with
audio controls for the AM/FM
CD player with MP3 and 6
speakers HD radio and the
works.
The driver is treated to a six-
way power seat and front pas-
senger has a four-way power
seat plus sport fabric. In the rear
seats are 60/40 split fold down
allowing for more cargo space
when needed.
In closing allow me to add the
new Yaris as Toyota New
Vehicle warranty with three-
year, 35,000 miles basic cover-
age and five-year/80,000 miles
power train coverage, plus five-
year/unlimited miles corrosion
perforation coverage.

As the automobile industry con-
tinues to deal with a slow econo-
my, General Motors has truly
stepped up to the plate and
delivered some quality products
that first reminds you of their
storied past. Yet their product
lines are making big turns into
the new wave of technology and
electronic age at the same time.
That is certainly clear in the new
Buick Regal GS for 2012. First
of all it definitely reminds you
of the vehicles of the seventies
and yet this Buick gets 19 miles
to the gallon in the city and 27
miles per gallon on the highway.
Coming with a 2.0 Liter HO
Turbo Ecotec DOHC four-cylin-
der SIDI W/VVT engine, that
delivers 270 horsepower and
295 lbs per foot of torque. Let’s
not forget no premium gasoline
is required for this model either.
A six-speed manual transmission
with interactive drive control
system with sport and GS modes
goes well with hiper strut front
suspension. Talk about fun when
it comes to handling.
We think it goes to show just
how much thought Buick put in
to their products.
The vehicle is finally assembled
in Osawa, Ontario Canada with
60% of its parts from the U.S.
and Canada and 15% from
neighboring Mexico. The
engine and transmission are both
built in Germany. Warranties
include a four-year/50,000
bumper to bumper warranty and
a five-year/100,000 miles power
train limited warranty.
Thanks to an array of safety fea-
tures Buick Regal GS was a
2011 Top Safety pick award
winner from the Insurance insti-
tute for Highway safety. The GS
is equipped with six-month
Onstar directions and connec-
tions with automatic crash
response and turn-by-turn navi-
gation and Onstar remote line.
Your dealer can fill you in on
geographic coverage for your
area.
Once inside the new Regal you
will be greeted to a steering col-
umn, tilt and telescoping with
controls as well. A Keyless entry
system gets you started and
eight-way power adjustable front
seats await the driver and front
passenger. Complete with four-
way lumbar now that should get
you’re seated very well. Not to
mention the seats are also heated
for those cold weather states.
Sounds come from a nine-speak-
er AM/FM/XM stereo CD player
with USB port and Sirius XM
radio service for three months
free. The system also offers a
MP3 with navigation system and
touch screen displayed on a
color seven inch color monitor.
Other options include 20-inch
polished alloy wheels and a car-
bon black metallic paint job to
name a couple. Fully loaded our
vehicle came just over $38,000.
We are proud to announce that
our KING-SIZE Mover and
Shaker for the month of March
is Lieutenant Joseph Levingston.
As I began my interview with
Lt. Levingston, he stated, “that
last year this time he was diag-
nosed with prostate cancer and
did not know if he would be
here today or be able to continue
to live a life that has been truly
blessed by God”. Lt. Levingston
has been with the Houston
Police Department for almost 30
years. He grew up in Houston
and after graduating from M.C.
Williams High School, he
enrolled into the University of
Houston; where he obtained a
Bachelor of Science degree.
Shortly, thereafter he joined the
Houston Police Department and
his life took on a new meaning.
He started out as a Patrol Officer
in Houston’s Southwest area and
moved into the Special
Operations Division in 1983.
After a brief period in the
Dispatch Division, he returned
to the Special Operations
Division in 1988. In May of that
same year, he was promoted to
the rank of Sergeant and became
a Jail Supervisor. In 1989, he
became a Robbery Investigator,
and in 1990, he moved over to
the Internal Affairs Division.
In 1994, Sgt. Levingston was
promoted to the rank of
Lieutenant and became the
Administrative Officer for the
North Division. In 1995, as a
Lieutenant, he received a Chief
of Police Unit Citation for form-
ing and managing a robbery task
force. He would go on to receive
three more Chief of Police Unit
Citations for his work in the
Internal Affairs Division, the
Training Division, and the
Homicide Division.
During his time in the training
Division, he managed the Cadet
Training Unit, the Driver’s
Training Unit, the Defensive
Tactics Unit, and the Pistol
Ranges.
In 2009, Lt. Levingston became
the supervisor for the Family
Violence Unit. For his efforts, he
was honored as the Mid-
Manager of the Year for 2010.
Also during that year, he moved
into the Dignitary Protection
Unit within the Criminal
Intelligence Division.
As I concluded my interview, Lt.
Levingston shared with me that
most recently, he had the privi-
lege of working with the Secret
Service unit that protects the
President of the United States of
America; in doing so he had an
opportunity to meet President
Obama and take a picture with
him. He added that, “the presi-
dent was extremely knowledge-
able, very professional, and most
importantly approachable”. Lt.
Levingston went on to say that,
“this was definitely a highlight
in my career, to serve and to
meet the 1st African American
President of the United States of
America was a proud moment
for me”.
I then asked Lt. Levingston what
were his plans for the future? He
stated that “God has blessed him
with a good wife, a wonderful
family, and a career that has
been so meaningful; my plans
include retirement within a few
years, after retirement, I plan to
travel, enjoy my family, and
reflect back on the goodness of
life”.
Lt. Levingston we are extremely
proud to honor you as this
month’s Mover and Shaker.

In Loving Memory of James E. McGinty
A few months ago I wrote about
The Fallen Heroes Survivors
Foundation and more recently
about The Veteran’s Action
Network. These two organiza-
tions are partnered and good
things are happening. Last
month the portable Viet Nam
memorial wall sponsored by
Bringing Home the Wall was
brought to San Antonio. To
honor the occasion, FHSF
President and Founder, Mike
Ladouceur was invited to give
the keynote speech. The event
was hosted by DeVry University
and the occasion was used to
announce the decision of DeVry
to support the Foundation.
DeVry is offering a program for
the surviving spouses of our fall-
en veterans. Held at all 120 cam-
puses across our nation each
quarter, the University is giving
programs for resume writing,
interviewing techniques and
child care assistance. The pur-
pose is to get the spouses back
into the workplace as quickly as
possible so they may resume a
more normal life. This is not a
one size fits all program but is
tailored to the needs of each
individual.
Also available to the surviving
spouses and children of our fall-
en heroes is a tuition reduction
program. The tuition is lowered
from $600.00 per credit hour to
$250.00. This makes higher edu-
cation much more affordable for
qualified students and helps pro-
grams such as the FHSF get
more bang for their dollars.
To qualify for either program,
the family members must be
screened through the Foundation
which will then forward the
application to the University.
Assistance is available for first
year students as well as those
seeking higher degree. A student
could be applying for a
Bachelor’s degree or wishing to
complete a Master’s program.
DeVry is considering adding an
office of the FHSF at each cam-
pus and would like to include
the Foundation in its Master of
Business program. Many busi-
ness majors move onto charity
work and the Foundation is a
great place to learn.
At the wall ceremony Ladouceur
ran into a member of his old
Army Company. Sergeant Larry
Ricketts was in attendance and
running for Sherriff of Bexar
County. Mike and Larry had not
seen each other in 35 years. It
was a tearful reunion as neither
one knew the other would be
attending. Also in attendance
was Congressman Joaquin
Castro. In his speech he spoke of
the reverence of the wall and
used the quote that became the
title of this article. When you
look at the wall, the size of the
East and West walls, eachcon-
taining 72 panels meeting in the
middle with a 125 degree angle
overwhelms you. The list of
over 58,000 names of those who
gave their lives to defend our
freedom in Viet Nam is enough
to bring tears to the eyes of even
the toughest veteran.
In another development, the
Foundation was featured in the
winter edition of Sugarland
Magazine. They will also be fea-
tured in the spring addition of
Katy Magazine and the summer
edition of Cy Fair Magazine.
Upcoming events for the
Foundation include a golf tour-
nament on June 1 at the Quail
Valley Golf Club in Missouri
City. Entry fee is $150.00 per
person. A hole in one competi-
tion is being hosted by Lexus
with a new car as the prize for
the first golfer to get the elusive
ace. Former Houston Texan’s
player Chris White is scheduled
to play the tournament.
Corporate sponsors are still
being solicited. Other events on
the schedule are a 5K run/walk
and a motorcycle poker run and
crawl. Further details on these
events will be given as they
evolve.
In other news, the FHSF is part-
nering with the Gold Star Wives.
These are the spouses of the mil-
itary heroes that need help
adjusting. The Gold Star Wives
has told the foundation that they
are having issues locating the
families of the men and women
that paid the ultimate price for
our freedom. Together, these
groups are hoping to better serve
the families have been forgotten
by many.
Coming this summer, Hooters
Restaurants will be hosting a
series of car washes to benefit
the Foundation. The lovely
ladies from Hooters will be
soaping up cars and trucks for
charity. Watch these pages for
more details. This will be a great
way to get your car cleaned and
raise some money for a good
cause.
Although only a year old, this
locally founded organization is
well on the way to helping the
families of our fallen and those
soldiers fighting Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD)live long
and productive lives. If you
know of someone that could
benefit from what the
Foundation has to offer, contact
them at www.fallenherowssur-
vivorsfoundation.com or
http://www.vaninc.org.
The soldier stood and faced God,Which must always come to
pass. He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, you soldier, how shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned theother cheek? To My Church have
you been true?”
The soldier squared his shoul-ders and said, “No, Lord, I guess
I ain’t,because those of us who carryguns, Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I’ve been violent,
because the world is awfullyrough.
But, I never took a penny, thatwasn’t mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of over-time, when the bills got just too
steep.
And I never passed a cry forhelp, though at times I shook
with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place,among the people here.
They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears.
If you’ve a place for me here,Lord, It needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too
much, but if you don’t, I’ll under-stand.”
There was a silence all aroundthe throne, where the saints had
often trod.As the soldier waited quietly for
the judgement of his God.
“Step forward now, you soldier, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’sstreets; you’ve done your time in
Hell.”

Continue thou in the things
which thou hast learned:
But first to summarize the previ-
ous month’s articles, “Happy
Holidays” and “Tormented”,
our endeavor as those striving to
be Christians, was to
prove/examine, by the apostles’
doctrine these holidays that so
many observe, and to see if they
were of the faith, thereby being
good; or of man (being evil).
Also to prove by scripture, in the
TORMENT article, the destina-
tion of the souls of those, that
chooses to follow man, rather
than God through Christ and his
apostles’ words. We know
according to scripture, God said
“this is my beloved Son in
whom I am well pleased; hear
ye Him” (Matt.17: 4-8), so we
searched in Christ’s word, as
Christians are commanded to do
(John5:39), and found no such
customs. We also know accord-
ing to scripture, Jesus command-
ed the Apostles to teach all
nations, teaching them to
observe all things that he had
commanded them (Matt.28: 19-
20). So, we searched the
Apostle’s words and we found
no such customs or traditions
(1Cor.11:16). Jesus said in
(John 17:19-21), Christians
must believe on him through the
Apostle’s word, because Jesus
gave them the word and through
the Apostles he is glorified
(John17:6-16). So then, we
went to the only other place to
find, the origin of the Christmas,
Thanksgiving Traditions, and
that was to man. And, if it’s of
Man it is not of the Faith
(Rom.10:16&17, James1:22);
and thereby not of the Truth
(John17:17).
The dates of origin of these tra-
ditions, were established too late
to be of Christ or his Apostles,
to TRUE Christians this fact
ALONE, should be and MUST
be enough. True Christians must
continue steadfast in the
Apostle’s Doctrine, customs, and
in their traditions, which is in
New Testament scripture, to be
right (righteous) with God.
(Acts1:1-4; Acts2:41-42;
Phil.4:9; Col.2:7-8; 1Tim.4:15-
16; 2Tim.3:14)
Christmas: Date (Dec. 25), was
established in (A. D. 336), by
the Western church, based at
Rome. The Eastern Orthodox
and the Eastern Rite churches
within the Roman Catholic
church chose (January 6).
Thanksgiving: The
Thanksgiving holiday has its ori-
gin in the Puritan Thanksgivings
of colonial New England. Both
the Pilgrims of Plymouth and
the Boston Puritans were strict
Calvinist Protestants.
Cal·vin·ism ) n. The religious
doctrines of John Calvin,
emphasizing the omnipotence of
God and the salvation of the
elect, by God’s grace alone.
Dear reader I hope you will bear
with us for a moment, while the
“religious doctrine of John
Calvin”, be proved/tested by the
apostles’ doctrine, as Christians
has been commanded to do. This
is to be done to every man or
woman, including us, concern-
ing the things that are written in
these articles. Now, the doctrine
of “the salvation of the elect, by
God’s grace alone” is FALSE
DOCTRIE according to the
apostles’ WORD. Salvation by
grace alone or only, can not be
found in the apostles’ doctrine.
This doctrine can not be found
in God’s word at all. This is
another deadly doctrine that so
many believe, that will cause
torment for ever, in the last day,
because it is FALSE. “Matt
7:15 Beware of false prophets,
which come to you in sheep’s
clothing, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall
know them by their fruits. Do
men gather grapes of thorns, or
figs of thistles? 17 Even so
every good tree bringeth forth
good fruit; but a corrupt tree
bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A
good tree cannot bring forth evil
fruit, neither can a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit. 19 Every
tree that bringeth not forth good
fruit is hewn down, and cast into
the fire. 20 Wherefore by their
fruits ye shall know them. 21
ot every one that saith unto
me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into
the kingdom of heaven; but he
that doeth the will of my Father
which is in heaven. 22 Many
will say to me in that day, Lord,
Lord, have we not prophesied in
thy name? and in thy name have
cast out devils? and in thy name
done many wonderful works? 23
And then will I profess unto
them, I never knew you: depart
from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth
these sayings of mine, and doeth
them, I will liken him unto a
wise man, which built his house
upon a rock:”
The scriptures do teach salvation
by grace, the problem here is the
words “alone” or “only”, for sal-
vation is accomplished by sever-
al things. Now let us read the
TRUTH about SALVATIO:
Mark 16:15 And he said unto
them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every
creature. 16 He that believeth
and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall
be damned.
1 Cor 15:1 Moreover, brethren,
I declare unto you the gospel
which I preached unto you,
which also ye have received,
and wherein ye stand; 2 By
which also ye are saved, if ye
keep in memory what I preached
unto you, unless ye have
believed in vain.(KJV)
Eph 2:5 Even when we were
dead in sins, hath quickened us
together with Christ, (by grace
ye are saved;)
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
Rom 10:16 But they have not
all obeyed the gospel. For
Esaias saith, Lord, who hath
believed our report? 17 So then
faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of
God.(KJV)
II Th 2:10 And with all deceiv-
ableness of unrighteousness in
them that perish; because they
received not the love of the
truth, that they might be
saved.(KJV)
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart
all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with
meekness the engrafted word,
which is able to save your
souls. 22 But be ye doers of the
word, and not hearers only,

We must be careful about
adding, or for that matter, sub-
tracting words, or anything else,
to and from the apostles’ doc-
trine; for this is deadly.
Remember God commanded
man in the garden of Eden, that
they could eat freely of every
tree of the garden; except the
tree of the knowledge of good
and evil. God said that in the
day that they ate of it, they shalt
surely die. Remember what the
serpent told the woman, “Thou
shalt not surely die”. Eve being
beguiled (deceived), one word it
seems, changed the course of the
created creature, man. Please
read:
Gen 2:16 And the LORD God
commanded the man, saying, Of
every tree of the garden thou
mayest freely eat: 17 But of the
tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day that thou eatest
thereof thou shalt surely
die.(KJV)
Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the
tree which is in the midst of the
garden, God hath said, Ye shall
not eat of it, neither shall ye
touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the
serpent said unto the woman, Ye
shall not surely die:(KJV)
1 Cor 11:8 For the man is not of
the woman; but the woman of
the man. 9 Neither was the man
created for the woman; but the
woman for the man. (KJV)
2 Cor 11:1 Would to God ye
could bear with me a little in my
folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with
godly jealousy: for I have
espoused you to one husband,
that I may present you as a
chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I

Adam was not deceived, but the
woman being deceived was in
the transgression. 15
Notwithstanding she shall be
saved in childbearing, if they
continue in faith and charity and

Christians are commanded to
prove all things, holding fast
that which is good (1Thes.5:21).
The scriptures also teach
Christians to examine them-
selves to see if they are in the
faith; not in a faith, but in THE
faith (2Cor.13:5). One must
conclude when reading “the
faith”, the apostle Paul was
speaking of a specific faith. One
must also conclude that this spe-
cific faith was also the one that
he and the other apostles were
in, thereby being authorized by
Jesus Christ. The final conclu-
sion one must have is that, there
being so many different faiths,
in the religious world today,
every one that is not of the faith
that the apostle Paul is speaking
of, is false and is unauthorized
by Christ. Thereby if we contin-
ue therein, Christ will NOT be
in us; then at the JUDGEMENT
we will then be JUDGED unap-
proved, worthless, rejects, cast-
aways, in danger of “TOR-
MET”!

True Christians have no choice
in what faith they are of or in,
because according to the apos-
tles doctrine, Christians are not
their own. There is only one
faith that is authorized by Christ
and one body, which is the one
Church that he is the head of.
This faith and its practices and
traditions, must be found in the
apostles’ word, for this is where
the blueprint is found, for the
Church that Christ is continu-
ously building. We must remem-
ber, the Church is people that
belong to, and is subject to
Christ, in everything, and he
adds them such as should be
saved(Acts2:47); as they contin-
ue steadfast in the traditions and
commandments of his apostles.
1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not
that your body is the temple of
the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye
are not your own? 20 For ye
are bought with a price: there-
fore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are
God’s.(KJV)
1 Cor 7:22 For he that is called
in the Lord, being a servant, is
the Lord’s freeman: likewise
also he that is called, being free,
is Christ’s servant. 23 Ye are
bought with a price; be not ye
the servants of men. 24
Brethren, let every man, wherein
he is called, therein abide with
God.(KJV)
Eph 4:4 There is one body, and
one Spirit, even as ye are called
in one hope of your calling; 5
one Lord, one faith, one bap-
tism,(KJV)
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the
head of the wife, even as Christ
is the head of the church: and
he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is
subject unto Christ, so let the
wives be to their own husbands
in every thing.(KJV)
Col 1:18 And he is the head of
the body, the church: who is
the beginning, the firstborn from
the dead; that in all things he
might have the preeminence.
(see also Matt.16-18)
Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly
received his word were bap-
tized: and the same day there
were added unto them about
three thousand souls. 42 And
they continued stedfastly in
the apostles’ doctrine and fel-
lowship, and in breaking of
bread, and in prayers.(KJV)
II Th 2:14 Whereunto he called
you by our gospel, to the obtain-
ing of the glory of our Lord
Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore,
brethren, stand fast, and hold
the traditions which ye have
been taught, whether by word,
or our epistle.(KJV)
2 Pet 3:1 This second epistle,
beloved, I now write unto you;
in both which I stir up your pure
minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of
the words which were spoken
before by the holy prophets, and
of the commandment of us the
apostles of the Lord and
Saviour: 3 Knowing this first,
that there shall come in the last
days scoffers, walking after their
own lusts,(KJV)
Keeping the preceding scriptures
in mind, this brings us to the
command that was given to
Timothy, by the apostle Paul,
“But continue thou in the
things which thou hast learned
and hast been assured of,
knowing of whom thou hast
learned them;” We believe that
the apostle Paul was admonish-
ing the young minister Timothy,
to suffer and follow the apostles’
commandments, traditions, cus-
toms and examples, as they were
guided by the Holy Spirit; and
OT the things, traditions and
customs of ME. This was the
safe thing to do then, and now.
This is safe because, to suffer
and follow the apostles’ doc-
trine, will keep us as it kept
those before us, from TOR-
MET in the last day.
2 Tim 3:12 Yea, and all that
will live godly in Christ Jesus
shall suffer persecution. 13 But
evil men and seducers shall wax
worse and worse, deceiving, and
being deceived. 14 But continue
thou in the things which thou
hast learned and hast been
assured of, knowing of whom
thou hast learned them; 15 And
that from a child thou hast
known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make thee
wise unto salvation through
faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is prof-
itable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in
righteousness: 17 That the man
of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all
good works.(KJV)
But continue thou:

son, be strong in the grace that is
in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things
that thou hast heard of me
among many witnesses, the
same commit thou to faithful
men, who shall be able to teach
others also. 3 Thou therefore
endure hardness, as a good sol-
dier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man

trine of Christ, he hath both the
Father and the Son. 10 If there
come any unto you, and bring
not this doctrine, receive him

him God speed: 11 For he that
biddeth him God speed is par-
taker of his evil deeds.(KJV)

not unto you in word only, but
also in power, and in the Holy
Ghost, and in much assurance;
as ye know what manner of men
we were among you for your
sake. 6 And ye became follow-
ers of us, and of the Lord, hav-

those Jews which believed on
him, If ye continue in my word,
then are ye my disciples indeed;

Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you,
brethren, mark them which
cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which
ye have learned; and avoid
them. 18 For they that are such
serve not our Lord Jesus Christ,
but their own belly; and by good
words and fair speeches deceive
the hearts of the simple.(KJV)
Gal 1:8-12 But though we, or
an angel from heaven, preach
any other gospel unto you than
that which we have preached
unto you, let him be accursed. 9
As we said before, so say I now
again, If any man preach any
other gospel unto you than that
ye have received, let him be
accursed. 10 For do I now per-
suade men, or God? or do I seek
to please men? for if I yet
pleased men, I should not be the
servant of Christ. 11 But I certi-
fy you, brethren, that the gospel
which was preached of me is not
after man. 12 For I neither
received it of man, neither was I
taught it, but by the revelation of
Jesus Christ.(see also Eph 4:18-

Phil 4:9 Those things, which ye

Col 2:7 Rooted and built up in

as ye have been taught, abound-
ing therein with thanksgiving. 8
Beware lest any man spoil you
through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the tradition of men,
after the rudiments of the world,
and not after Christ.(KJV)
1Thes 2:10 Ye are witnesses,
and God also, how holily and
justly and unblameably we
behaved ourselves among you
that believe: 11 As ye know how
we exhorted and comforted and
charged every one of you, as a
father doth his children, 12 That
ye would walk worthy of God,
who hath called you unto his
kingdom and glory. 13 For this
cause also thank we God with-
out ceasing, because, when ye
received the word of God
which ye heard of us, ye
received it not as the word of
men, but as it is in truth, the
word of God, which effectually
worketh also in you that
believe.(see also 2Tim 3:15)
Again, the Lord warns us of the
Prudent, the Intelligent
through his Word, let’s look at
some scriptures on the prudent.
After reading the following
scriptures pertaining to the
Prudent, the Wise, which is the
Intelligent, one might began to
think as I have learned to think,
Keep it Simple Stupid. In other
words, become a fool in this
world, so that I might become
wise in The Lord. We have
learned, the things we used to
strive for, one being, higher
learning, intelligence, wisdom in
this world, is foolishness with
God, and vain according to
scriptures.
WHAT IS TRUTH? THE TRUTH ABOUT SALVATION
March 2012 A King-Size View Page 9
It is vain because once we have
died, how will those degrees
help us then? Christians must be
wise in Christ Jesus; because he
is the wisdom of God and we
must strive to do the things he
has commanded us, so that we
will have a happy everlasting
life after death. According to
scripture, we can’t have them
both; Christians must strive to
be wise in one, which is Christ
and a fool in the other, which is
the world, to be righteous with
God. When God hides some-
thing who can find it? READ

thee, O Father, Lord of heaven

God made foolish the wisdom
of this world?(KJV)
1 Cor 1:24 But unto them which
are called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of
God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of
God is wiser than men; and the
weakness of God is stronger
than men. 26 For ye see your
calling, brethren, how that not
many wise men after the flesh,
not many mighty, not many
noble, are called: 27 But God
hath chosen the foolish things
of the world to confound the
wise; and God hath chosen the
weak things of the world to con-
found the things which are
mighty; 28 And base things of
the world, and things which are
despised, hath God chosen,
yea, and things which are not, to
bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory
in his presence. 30 But of him
are ye in Christ Jesus, who of
God is made unto us wisdom,

1 Cor 2:1 And I, brethren, when
I came to you, came not with
excellency of speech or of wis-

among you, save Jesus Christ,
and him crucified. 3 And I was

Dear reader as always, the pur-
pose of these articles is to seek
the TRUTH according to THE
WORD, thereby exposing
ERROR, for the purpose of sav-
ing our souls. We believe this is
best done by definitions and the
preponderance of scriptures;
which is having superior weight,
force, importance, or influence
of scripture. Again we believe
this allows SCRIPTURE to
INTERPRET SCRIPTURE,
thereby allowing a better under-
standing on that topic. Again,
thank you so much for your

PRECIOUS is Time. Therefore while you have
time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments
for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will
be according as your work has been. You will find
in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must
all appear before the judgement seat of Christ,
that everyone may recive the things done in his
body according to that he hath done, whether it
be good or evil.” You will find in John 15:14. “Ye
are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command
you.” Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5 “A wise man
will hear and will increase learning, and a man of
understanding will attain unto wise counsel.”

SHANNON LILLY JR.
DALLAS KIMBALL
Austin, Texas-for the second
time in as many years Shannon
Lilly Jr. led Dallas Kimball to
the state class 4A championship.
The multi-talented senior guard
was a member of the 2009 team
that lost to Jack Yates and after
missing out on the big dance in
2010 he has came to Austin and
won the last two seasons. Not
only has he won the state but the
MVP both years as well. This
time it was his big trey late in
the game that brought Kimball
back from 7 points down against
the Mighty Jack Yates Lions.
Lilly scored 27 points to lead all
scorers in the game and hit on 8
of 12 shots from the field
including 5 of 8 from behind the
arc. But his biggest points came
at the foul line where he hit on 6
of 8 attempts to help seal the
win for the Knights.
With the game on the line Lilly
said he was just hoping for a
shot and he explained how he hit
the foul shots that won the
game. “First of all I lineup my
feet up take 3 dribbles with
hands on the stripes and follow
it up”. He said he is just grateful
they got it done for the commu-
nity and this is wonderful. “My
teammates needed a big shot and
I got and open trey and nailed it
because we were just doing
whatever it took to win the
game”.
Deep down inside Lilly said he
felt a little rough when Yates
was up by a score of 70-62.
When Torrey Henry hit that trey
from the corner and Yates fouled
Lilly he knew the game was in
reach. “I had been working on
my free throws and that was the
break we needed”.
In closing Lilly said was just
focused because their coaches
had told them it was going to be
a war against Yates. He said the
team was not playing around
they were all business going into
the game.
PHIL FORTE-LEWISVILLE
MARCUS
Austin, Texas-clearly one of the
best shooting expeditions since I
watched Larry Bird warm up in
the Summit before the Boston
Celtics beat the Houston
Rockets for the NBA title in
1981, Phil Forte did his thing for
Lewisville Marcus. He scored a
game high 24 points but he
scored his team first 8 points in
route to a big 56-52 win over
Fort Bend Travis for the state’s
class 5A title. With their point
guard in foul trouble the
Marauders had problems scoring
in the second quarter but
rebounded to score 14 in the
third and 22 in the fourth peri-
ods.
The talented shooter who makes
600 treys in practice session
each day Phil did Travis in when
he went 8 for 8 at the foul line.
“Eight months ago I was told I
would win the MVP as we
would win the title again”. The
senior said he is tremendously
proud of the team and they
shared tears before the game
knowing this would be the last
time they would be playing
together. Upset by the fact he
did not play well in the semi-
finals Phil was looking for a big
night and he got it. “I wasn’t
happy about my performance
last year and it’s nice to know
my teammates wanted me to get
to the foul line”. He went on to
tell us he shoots literally thou-
sands free throws in the gym
and it paid off this time around.
In closing Forte said defense
was the key to them winning the
game, being down by 2 at the
half didn’t bother them at all.

Austin, Texas-The Mighty Jack
Yates Lions roared into the
Frank Erwin Center with plans
of winning their third state Class
4A basketball title in five years.
But the Knights of Dallas
Kimball were waiting in full
armor for the Lions. Kimball
jumped to an early lead but he
Lions tied it at 11 by the end of
the first period. Yates then went
up by six points at the half only
to see Kimball trim it back to
one point at the end of three. In
the fourth period the Lions led it
70-63 at 2.50 mark. It was then
when things took a turn for the
worse for Coach Greg Wise and
his Lions. Chris Wells scored the
Lions last points with 44 second
left. Torrey Henry made a steal
and called a timeout and then hit
a big trey closing to 75-73 and
after Yates missed two free
throws. Henry made the biggest
play of the game with another
trey from deep in the corner
with only 12 second left and a
big 76-75 lead. Following a
Yates turnover M.V.P. Shannon
Lilly Jr. sank two free throws
with six seconds left to seal the
victory and their second straight
state title in Class 4A. Yates
tried a trey at the buzzer but it
fell off and Kimball began to
celebrate the come from behind
win.
Henry talked about his big trey
in the closing minutes. “Yes sir,
it felt good from the time it left
my hands and I knew we needed
those points to get back into the
game. Henry finished with 12
points went two for two from
behind the arc and both coming
late in the fourth period. Plus he
teamed with Shannon Lilly Jr. to
take away three balls from Yates
down the stretch that turned out
to be the difference in the out-
come of the game.
Keith Frazier had a pretty good
game as well with 17 points and
14 rebounds and was kind of an
unsung hero for the Knights in
this one. But have no feat this 6
feet 5 inch junior will be back
next season along with Darian
Hancock who is 6 feet 7 inches.
David Tucker also had a big role
in the game because of his game
leading nine assists including the
treys hit by Henry down the
stretch which both came off
assists from Tucker’s hand.
When good shooting teams
which have good guard play,
there aren’t many assists dished
out. Fact is Tucker’s game lead-
ing nine assist was more than
the Yates Lions (eight) had as a
team and even Kimball had only
13 for the game on 26 made
field goals. So half of Kimball
made baskets came by way of an
assist. The Knights also made
10 of 13 shots from behind the
arc while Yates hit on only five
of 19 from long range.
The makeup of the Knights team
consist of three seniors- David
Tucker, Shannon Lilly Jr. and
Chaise Nelson. They have seven
juniors with Keith Frazier,
Torrey Henry, Darian Hancock,
Jordan Adams, Sheldon
Yearwood, Gabriel Lilly and
Randelle Jones all coming back.
There are three sophomores
returning as well with D’Angelo
Allen, Trenton Brinkley and
Dondre Carter, plus freshman
Cordel Finley will also be back.
In Class 3A action it was Argyle
beating Corpus Christi Miller
44-33. Class 2A title went to
White Oak who beat Brock 61-
53 and Class A division I title
went to Clarksville who won
over Mumford 65-67 and
Calvert beat Graford 63-37 for
the Class A Division II title.

Austin, Texas-Tasia Foman and
Empress Davenport led the way
as Duncanville girls turned back
once beaten Spring-Dekaney for
the girls Class 5A championship.
The final count 69-31 with the
big 24-3 lead after one period
there was little double about the
outcome. Duncanville poured it
on in the second for a 41-9 half
time lead and made it 61-20
after three periods.
Foman scored 21 points to lead
all scorers in the game and Most
Valuable Player Empress
Davenport rattled the rim for 17
more points as the three guards
two forwards attack was simply
too much for Dekaney. Morgan
Bolton who led the fast break
tossed in 12 points and Ariel
Atkins chipped in seven while
Antoina Robinson added six
more along with three rebounds.
When it comes to rebounds,
Duncanville outrebounded
Dekaney 46-23 and Kiara Perry
led the game with 12 boards and
Duncanville had 42 points in the
paint and 22 offensive boards in
the victory. Fact is those 16
points on fast breaks were a big
key and the fact that Dekaney
bench failed to score in the
game really hurt with all Region
III and Region II girls this year.
Jaleesa Chapel led Dekaney with
12 points and was the only Lady
Wildcats that scored in double
figures.
To round out the team of Coach
Cathy Self-Morgan’s of hard
working girls are Adrianna
Davis, Alisha Spearman,
Destiney Means, Martisha
Bables, and Shannon Franklin.
A crowd of more than 6,500
paid to see the game at the
Frank Erwin Center on the cam-
pus of the University of Texas.
Congratulations are in order for
Duncanville as well as Dekaney
for a great showing in only their
fourth year of varsity. Coach
Stacey Stroman and her staff did
a marvelous job.

Austin, Texas-Phil Forte scored
the first eight points and the last
eight points as Flower Mound
Marcus edged Fort Bend Travis
56-52 for the Class 5A state title.
The senior guard is one of the
purest shooters we’ve seen in a
very long time. He hit a jumper
and made six free throws to seal
the win, but it was also Forte
who hit one jumper and two
treys for the Marauders first
eight points as well. They won
for the 115th time against six
defeats in the past three seasons.
That landed them two state titles
and one state finalist appearance
as the seniors shed tears before
the start of the title game. With
their point guard A. J Lucky in
foul trouble Marcus bought time
and stayed close trailing by only
two points at the half. Travis
got off to a good start on a 5-0
run in the second half as Andrew
Harrison led Travis with 23
points. His twin Aaron Harrison
added 10 and was the only other
Tiger in double figures.
One of the keys was 6 feet 8
inch Nick Banyard, who grabbed
a game high13 rebounds to go
along with his 10 points and two
assists.
With both teams running a
patient offense with Travis only
taking 41 attempts at the basket
and connecting on 17 of them
while Marcus connected on the
same amount while attempting
two mores with 43 attempts.
The difference in the game was
at the foul line where Marcus hit
18 of 21 and Travis only 12 for
19. So few attempts lead to low
assists total as well with Travis
having only 6 and Marcus had
10.
Clearly a hard fought game with
four points separating the two
teams when the final horn
sounded at the Erwin Center
where a little more than 10,000
fans gathered for the Class 5A
game.
It’s time to rebuild for Marcus
with 12 seniors one junior, one
sophomore and one freshman on
the team. Coach Danny
Henderson and his staff will
have some work to do to get
back here again. Jack Holden,
Sean Campbell and Mark
Wheeler are the only three guys
coming back next year.
Graduating this spring is John
Malone, Jared Hamilton, Matt
Ledford, Jacob VanNattan,
Austin Parish, Cody Apfel, Phil
Forte, Jordan Johnson, Nick
Banyard, Marcus Smart and
Tanner Backus.

TAIJE JORDAN
LANCASTER
Houston, Texas-When it comes
to hurdles many people are
unaware of just how much dif-
ference there is in the 100 hur-
dles and the 300 hurdles. While
covering the 61st running of the
TSU Relays we talked with
Dallas Lancaster super star Taije
Jordan about those races. Jordan
won the 100 meter hurdles in a
time of 14.33 and claimed the
300 hurdles in 42.75 and made
her third trip to the nationally
ranked Relays. “I’ve been here
three years and it’s great to be
able to go against some of the
best in the nation”. Jordan went
on to say it’s a good opportunity
to get Lancaster name back out
there and make a statement.
“Yes sir we are back to stay and
next year I plan to attend Baylor
University and run track before
going to Medical school to
become a pediatrician”. She also
wants to go to the Olympics in
the 100 hurdles. Having a love
for taking care of babies and lit-
tle kids, Jordan says it’s a dream
come true to be able to live her
dream. The lovely and talented
young lady is ranked number
one if the nation and she finds
that amazing. “Ha Ha, I really
don’t know what to make of it
because all I want to do was stay
in the top three and then get to
state and win”.
The 100 hurdles is her favorite
mainly because it fast and quick
and she had five year experience
running this race. She also runs
the 300 hurdles and she talked
about the differences in the
races. “Conditioning is required
in the 300 because if you get off
to a slow start you can mentally
get back into the race, but in the
100 meters quickness and tech-
nique is the key in order to win”.
Since the 5th grade she has
always wanted to attend Baylor
University. “Every since I say
them at the Texas Relays when I
was a kid, I’ve always wanted to
run track for the Lady Bears”.
But first she has an opportunity
to defend her state title in the
hurdles this May.
MARCUS SMART-FLOWER
MOUND MARCUS
Austin, Texas-With the game on
the line Marcus Smart got
behind Fort Bend Travis defense
and slammed the ball home as
his team ran off 10 straight
points. They went on to win
their second straight Class 5A
title with a 56-52 win over
Travis. Coming into the tourna-
ment with only two losses in
their 39 games the Marauders
kept it close then exploded for
22 points in the fourth period to
win the game at the end. Smart
had eight rebounds and hit on
seven of nine foul shots for his
15 points in 30 minutes of
action. We spoke with him after
the game to get some of his
thoughts. “We expected the
game was going to be physical
and the officials let us play and
sometimes I thought it was a lit-
tle too much over looked”. The
talented young man praised his
teammate Phil Forte who scored
a game high 24 points and
walked away with the M.V.P.
“Without a doubt sir, he
deserved it all year long. Phil
has been doing that for us and
not getting the credit he
deserves; we are a complete
team with good coaches and
even our trainers do their part to
help us win games”.
When asked about going against
the Harrison twins from Fort
Bend, Smart said he knew it was
going to be a tough game. “We
knew going in we were going to
have to play very hard in order
to win this game”. A big stop
down the stretch and Smart
made a big time layup and the
momentum shifted to Marcus
and they went on to win.
After the game Smart was turn-
ing flips and we noticed his
build we had to think maybe
football. “Well I played football
all the way to my 5th grade year
but basketball is my game, but
the flips came from working out
with my brother who is gymnast
and he taught me a few things”.

LEWISVILLE-MARCUS
Austin, Texas-Flower Mound
Marcus High School won the
state’s Class 5A title again. This
time it was a 56-52 victory over
Fort Bend Travis before 10,000
fans at the Erwin Center. Coach
Danny Henderson is assisted by
Kenny Boren, Brian Blackburn,
Craig Owen and Eli Rodriguez
and the Marauders are a startling
115-6 the past three years. After
their win over F.B. Travis, we
talked with him about that five
point second period they had.
“The big problem was A.J.
Luckey got into foul trouble and
he initiates our quick hitter”.
Coach Henderson went on to
credit Travis on some pretty
good defense to add to their
offensive woes in the second
period.
As we talked more with
Henderson we learned his guard
Phil Forte makes “600 threes a
day and I do mean makes not
just shoots 600 but makes 600
treys a day. His work ethic is
unbelievable I kid you not”.
Another big task for Marcus was
dealing with the Harrison twins.
“It’s nearly impossible to stop
those guys and our man to man
defense based on helping out
played with them but they get
you in foul trouble because they
can drive to the box so well”.
ROYCE JOHNSON-DALLAS
KIMBALL
Austin, Texas-The Knights of
Dallas Kimball High School
made their 9th trip to Austin and
won for the second straight year
in a row. They came from
behind to beat Jack Yates High
School 78-75 on the strength of
a 14-4 run in the last three min-
utes. “When we were down two
points we told Torrey (Henry) to
drive but he thought we said
shoot so he hit the big trey giv-
ing us the lead”. The Lions then
turned the ball over and
Shannon Lilly Jr. took over from
there. “We knew somehow we
were going to find a way to win
the game. Our kids are hard
workers and I thank God for
their effort out there today”.
Johnson who is the son of the
legendary Goree Johnson
reminded the media that the
Dallas Metro-Plex is going to be
tough for many years to come.
“We love our rivalries with Jack
Yates and now that they are
going to be 3A they will still
have to play the Dallas Metro-
Plex in order to win the state
Wilmer-Hutchins and several of
our 3A schools are good solid
programs”.
In talking with Johnson we also
learned he knows when to hold
them on what most thought was
a bad call. He rushed up court
and admits he was glad he didn’t
say anything to the officials.
This group has only three sen-
iors and look for them to have
something to say about the state
title for the third straight year in
2013. “We have a good young
group of kids and they are will-
ing to work hard and our staff
with be ready to go again.
Johnson is assisted by Toby
Daniels, Ryan Foppe, Robert
Jacobs and Bo Johnson.

Austin Texas-During our cover-
age of the 2012 Boy’s state tour-
nament, I had the opportunity to
interview Mark Cousins the cur-
rent University Interscholastic
League Athletic Director regard-
ing the state of athletics in
Texas. Here are some of his
responses.
Question-Many fans in theDallas area are concernedregarding greater Houstonschools competing in the RegionII-Dallas area. Did the U.I.L.try to ease this problem?Response-The regional align-ment is always difficult for theU.I.L. and that’s not necessari-ly the exploding populationwith Harris County and theHouston population. It dealswith West Texas and theDallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Each region has eight districtsand we have to fill those up. Westart in the north and west, goeast and end up in the south. We lost a district in thePanhandle. We had two dis-tricts out there and we had tomake some decisions to movedistricts in Region II. We haveto the same on number of dis-tricts in Region II along withadding a district from CentralTexas.Question-Is a 6A division loom-ing for Texas?Response-I don’t think so. If
you look at the basketball
tournament, we have six con-
ferences. Conference A has
been split into two confer-
ences- Division I and II along
with eleven man and six man.
In track and field, we’re going
to add six conferences in the
next six months. In those
sports where we have 1100-
1200 schools participating, we
already have six conference;
we just don’t call them 6A.
The biggest problem we have
is creating severe travel prob-
lems for our schools. The talk
is about breaking off schools
with over 5,000 by themselves
or the schools over 3,000 by
themselves but the reality is
there just aren’t that many
schools with the numbers to
justify doing that. We have to
justify doing this and the
numbers just aren’t there at
this time.
Question-Is the medical screen-ing for high school athletessomething that will continueunder your leadership?Response-That is something
we have been concerned with
for a long time. While Dr.
Breithaupt was the U.I.L.
Athletic Director the medical
advisory committee recom-
mended and passed a required
concussion management pro-
tocol that our schools had to
follow. It was based on infor-
mation that was released form
the Brain Injury Association
of America. We’ve had a con-
cussion protocol for schools
since 2005. Our schools and
coaches have been aware of
this for several years. This
past year our medical advisory
commission changed our rec-
ommendation to the ational
Federation Concussion
Protocol. In addition, the
Texas State Legislature passed
a law as to how schools have
to deal with concussions and
how to proceed when students
are believed to have had head
injuries.
Question-Can the state tourna-ment be rotated among the citiesof Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston,Austin and San Antonio?Response-It is certainly some-
thing that can be discussed.
We will listen to all proposals.
We moved to a centralized site
for championship football
rotating between San Antonio,
Houston and Arlington. We
had the opportunity to move
some of other events to differ-
ent locations. We will look at
several things, discuss it and
makes decisions again based
on what’s in the best interest
for our schools and fans.
Mr. Cousins provided some
quality information to us and we
look forward to working with
him over the next few years. As
I promised from the beginning
of this column, I will provide
the information from the main
sources regarding athletics for
young men and women.
That’s just the way I see it!

Hey Houston, spring is here
again. That means definite
changes like daylight savings,
things starting to bloom, pollen
in the air, and kids will have a
spring break to refresh there
minds. You can believe me love
will be in the air, and like pollen
it will affect some worse than
others. With the kids maybe out
of the house for a week, you can
have a little togetherness time
with your mate. And with day-
light savings time you will have
a little extra time in the evening
for maybe a walk, or a quiet
time on the patio or the deck, or
to have your favorite drink as
you take a little time to commu-
nicate. Sometimes we tend to
forget or take our partner for
granted. Just because you’ve got
Mr. or Mrs Right hooked does-
n’t mean they will stay hooked,
if we don’t continue doing those
things to show them we are still
interested. Some people are
more needy than others. Rule
one, know your mate. Of course
every evening won’t be exciting,
and the sparks won’t always fly,
but you have to make a con-
scious effort. Recently on In the
Love Corner that airs on
Wednesday’s night at 8 pm,
there was a concern from the
female audience that they were
not getting enough attention, or
compliments from the other half.
It was to the point that they had
to get dressed up go out with the
girls just to get somebody to
compliment them, then they go
back home I guess to their mate
who didn’t do their job. Now is
that right I don’t think so. That’s
where communication comes
into play. Rule two talk to your
mate. Compliments should be a
natural occurrence, should be
but as we become familiar with
our loved ones we tend not to
take that second look, or go the
extra mile.

While at a Booker T.
Washington High School foot-
ball game, we ran into former
B.T.W. standout Rev. John
Curtiss Gibbs and he had two
boys with him. After several
months of asking him he finally
brought them out to the
Studewood Cobras. By that time
John Gibbs Jr. was ten and too
tall to play junior varsity so he
played varsity little league foot-
ball with 11 and 12 year old
boys. The following year Gibbs
was 11 and didn’t play little
league and that team led by Zelt
“Peanut” Minor won the Super
Bowl. John’s younger brother
(William) won a Super Bowl
with the Cobras. But John got a
lot of good advice from Reggie
Washington another B.T.W.
graduate who coached the varsi-
ty Cobras to that Super Bowl
title. “What they taught me was
to be a leader and command the
attention of your team while in
the huddle”. Gibbs used that
same thing as he took over the
B.T.W. freshman team and then
on to the junior varsity squad
before getting a great deal of
varsity playing time as a junior.
His break came after he went 10
of 11 against Yates in the 2010
Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial
Classic and won the ‘Rising
Star’. He recalls being mad
because he didn’t win the most
valuable player of the classic
ballgame. “My Mom told me I
just need to work harder and as
a senior you will have a chance
to get that M.V.P. trophy. Having
a growth spurt between the 7th
and 8th grade Gibbs returned to
B.T.W. for his senior year at
nearly 6 feet 6 inches. Thanks to
hard work all summer long he
felt good about beating Yates in
the annual classic and he did so
14-13 and yes he was awarded
the M.V.P. of the Fiesta Fall
Classic. “Sir I tell you it’s like a
dream come true for me to beat
Yates in this game and people
all throughout the community
were coming up to me and say-
ing aren’t you the quarterback at
Washington and you all better
beat Yates this year. Gibbs said
all he could do was promise
they would be ready when that
day came and they were.
With probably the best touch of
any passer in Metro-Houston
area since Andrew Luck from
Stratford and Andy Dalton at
Katy, Gibbs is probably quicker
and a much better running than
both of them.
Once the coaching staff at
Alcorn saw his stats they were
sold on the quarterback who is
now up to 6 feet 7 inches and
still might grow some more.
Going to Alcorn State won’t be
easy for Gibbs because between
Fred Air I McNair and the late
Steve Air II McNair there is
more than 24 thousand yards
and 150 touchdowns. But Gibbs
taking a chip of the block of his
proud father is more than ready
for the challenge and is staying
in shape by running track. “I
understand having weight on my
shoulders and we know it’s
some big shoes to fill at Alcorn
but I’m leaving for Mississippi
on June 6, 2012”. That’s two
days after he graduates from
B.T.W.
We are very excited for Gibbs
and we look forward to covering
him in the same manner we cov-
ered Steve McNair. By the way
we expect him to shine because
Studewood Cobras and B.T.W.
Eagles always give it their all
when it counts the most!
We have good one for you this
time around. He’s Booker T.
Washington senior John Gibbs
Jr. In the classroom at
Washington High School, he
likes his psychology class better
and says he has always been
good on this class. Holding to a
2.5 G.P. A. Gibbs feels he wants
to major in communications
when he enrolls at Alcorn State
University this fall. With a
desire to council young people
or work in public relations as an
adult, Gibbs feels he can do well
in that category. Fact is John is
the son of legendary B.T.W.
world class athlete Rev. John
Curtiss Gibbs who won a Rose
Bowl while playing at UCLA
after his days at B.T.W. in the
middle 70s.
But his mother Lorraine Gibbs
is his most driving force
because she had always been
right there at school with him
and his parents made sure he
stayed on the right course.
“They showed me the difference
between right and wrong and
saw to it that I followed their
rules all my life”. Gibbs went
onto say they always expected
the best out of him and he never
wanted to let them down. He
added he has always put God
first in his life and that has
helped him follow the right
path. On Sundays you’ll find
John over at Fallbrook Church
where Mike Pender is the pastor.
“It’s strengthen my faith on a
regular basic and it is shown me
the true light.
In his spare time Gibbs loves to
read short stories and actually
likes to read newspapers the old
fashion way. Following the
world of sports had been anoth-
er of Gibbs past times.
Despite being the quarterback at
B.T.W. Gibbs played basketball
and is ranked 12th in the nation
in hurdles and their 4 by 100
meter relay team beat Nimitz to
win the Barbara Jacket-Hoover
Wright 83rd running of the P.V.
Relays this past weekend.
We talked with Gibbs about his
choosing Alcorn State to further
his education and to play foot-
ball there. “There were other
schools that showed interest in
me, but Alcorn showed me the
type of love as in four-year
scholarship and an outstanding
football program and I felt truly
wanted at that school.
When asked about Barack
Obama becoming the first
African American President,
Gibbs replied; it truly gives all
blacks a good feeling knowing
they can be what they want to
be”.
Describing himself as a student
athlete first and foremost Gibbs
says he considers himself a
leader on and off the field and
loves the challenges life has to
offer.
We’ve known him since he was
ten years old and we know he is
going to do well at Alcorn State
University, because we are
going to follow him all the way!

The 61st running of the Texas
Southern Relays was a sight for
sore eyes as the runners burned
up the track at the Alexander
Durley Sports Complex. One of
the nation’s finest runners
Jermaine Authorlee of Galena
Park North Shore High School
did his thing in the 100 meters.
He ran a 10.95 in a photo finish
with De Soto for the title as the
defending state champion tuned
up for the 2012 finals. The TSU
Relays are considered the top
preseason event and Authorlee
wasted no time in setting the
stage. He teamed with Christian
Houston, Larry McDuffey and
Kevin Alexander to win the 4 by
100 meters and placed second in
the 4 by 200 meters. We spoke
with Authorlee when the dust
settled under his red hot track
shoes. “The wind was blowing
kind of hard but I got a good
start out the blocks. The talent-
ed athlete said he was going to
do his best to finish his senior
year by helping his team go to
state and win again. “This sum-
mer I ran summer track and
went to Kansas City and the jun-
ior nationals and ran 20.90 in the
200 and the 4 by 100 we ran a
39.90 and got first place”.
Going to state is his goal for the
2012 season and he plans to
attend the University of
Alabama and study Pharmacy.
“They have a real good recruit-
ing class and some say its num-
ber one in the nation”. The SEC
is noted for football but
Jermaine says if the opportunity
presents itself he would consider
playing football. University of
Houston along with Texas Tech,
Texas Christian University and
Texas A & M all went after the
All-State runner who clearly is
one of the nation’s best. The
younger brother of former
Sterling and UH standout
Anthony Authorlee, Jermaine is
on the right track.
The TSU meet brings out the
best in the country as Allex
Austin from San Marco High
School went 7 feet 2 inches in
the high jump to win the gold.
He is the son of former 1996
Olympic Gold Medalist Charles
Austin and the nephew of
Booker T. Washington coach
Russell Austin. Keep your eyes
on this kid because he just might
break the state record before he
is done this year.
The Lady Panthers of Prairie
View made a good showing also
as 400 meter winner Terracia
Moody a red shirt sophomore
ran away with the race.
Senior Mayorca Young won her
heat in the girls 100 meters the
daughter of former Yates-UH
Michael Young getting ready to
help Lamar get back to form and
make a run at the state title.
TSU was well represented by
female sprinter Tiffany Heard
and Sheldon Wilkinson who
took the Men’s 110 high Hurdles
in 14.37.
Beaumont Ozen sensation ath-
lete Beloved Brown did her
thing in the hurdles. We spoke
with her about the Relays and
what it means to her. “We kind
of use the TSU Relays to see
where we are and due to the fact
I play basketball this meet tells
me what to expect and what I
need to work on”. Brown and
her teammates won the state
Class 4A title last season in
track and field and hoped to do
the same thing in basketball.
They went to the Region III
finals unbeaten but loss to
Barbers Hill in the title game.
“We just didn’t play as well as
we should and we had three girls
on our team that had won the
state in track and we knew how
to win a state championship”.
She went on to say due to the
fact they had beaten Barbers Hill
in the past they were guilty of
looking ahead to Mansfield.
“But you can’t take anything
away from Barbers Hill because
they played their butts off”. The
lack of execution hurt their team
in Brown’s mind but had they
followed the lead they could
have pulled it out. In closing
Brown added they were unbeat-
en and had to play poorly in
order for Barbers Hill to beat
them. “That’s what happened;
their girls worked hard and we
didn’t play well at all”.
Other outstanding performances
were Shelton Keith a junior
from Grambling State won the
Men’s 100 meters. Former
B.T.W. and T.S.U. standout
Jeremy Davis ran well in the
meet also.
