From the President of the KTAI

It is more important than ever to take time and enjoy life's little pleasures. It seems there is a lot of hustle and bustle all the time, all around us. So many pressing questions -

KEEP CALM, WE HAVE ANSWERS

A common question you probably hear from your customer is, “What’s new, What’s fun, and What’s different”? I answer this by thinking in 3 categories: Must See, Must Be, and Must Have. Like this-

Must See…

New Ideas, they are everywhere.

New inventions, that are amazing!

New opportunities, around each corner.

New challenges, to help growth.

New and dear friends, lots of hugs.

Must Be…

Memorable, every time.

Intriguing, draw them in.

Enjoyed by many, loved.

Experienced. Yes, you are!

Equipped. You have it.

Must Have…

Passion. Yes, you do.

Support, family.

Enjoyment. Bring peace.

Faith. It’s the right thing.

Lifelong fun. For all ages.

It is all Here at the KTAI Convention with each of you being an important part of

this Association. Please join us, your friends, with your positive and open-minded questions and thoughts. You will be amazed at the answers!!! Some new - Some tried and true. We will be having great forum discussions, networking events, trade show deals, exhibitors strut, meals, and all the fun that this group is known for. Come, Relax, and soak in all the energy that is our industry. See you in Vegas!! It is a pretty good job!!

Lolly

FIRST TIMERS FORUM AND MENTOR MATCH-UP Want to get the most out of your attendance at the Trade Show and Convention? This is the place to start! This forum is a must for any first-time attendees, and even seasoned KTAI veterans can learn a new trick or two. Also, many “old timers” regularly attend this forum to pass on things they’ve learned from past trade shows, and that free sharing of information and advice is what makes KTAI such a unique professional organization! The discussion will be focused on getting the most out of the trade show, so you can make a plan to maximize your convention goals!

This workshop is also your chance to learn more about our successful mentoring program. Experienced KTAI members are matched up with interested newbies for individualized assistance, not just at the convention but throughout the year. These pairings have proven valuable for first timers and mentors alike, often building long-term business relationships benefitting both. If you are an experienced KTAI member who would like to become a mentor, or a newbie who would like some one-on-one assistance, please attend this forum; or if you cannot, please stop by the registration desk for more information.

MENTOR MEET-UP! This informal half-hour before the banquet is an opportunity for mentors and mentees to get together and debrief after the trade show, socialize, and exchange contact information for ongoing discussions throughout the year.

GREAT IDEAS FORUM Have you ever wanted to be able to “pick the brains” of some of the most successful kite retailers, manufacturers and distributors in the world? Now’s your chance! At this open forum moderated by a panel of experts, you can get answers to some of your most burning questions, from the mundane (“How can I best display this new product?”) to the esoteric (“What do you see as the upcoming trends in the kite industry?”)

Panel members will take on topics from marketing to personnel issues to business planning by drawing on their years of experience to share what has worked (and not worked) for them. They also encourage attendees to share what they have learned in what promises to be a lively exchange of ideas.

This is also a perfect time to share your excitement about a new product that has worked well for you; if you do, please bring a sample and the manufacturer/distributor’s contact information. Newbies and old timers alike: bring your questions, success stories, and ideas to share!

SEVENTH ANNUAL EXHIBITORS’ STRUT! If you are looking to maximize your trade show time and get a head’s up on all the best new products, this is the place to be! Now in its seventh year, this popular workshop gives exhibitors the chance to show off new products, discuss show specials, and answer questions. Retailers can get an in-depth look at what’s new, and also meet new exhibitors whose products might just be a perfect fit! Retailers will have a definite advantage at the trade show, with advance knowledge that allows more time for specific questions and order writing in exhibitors’ booths. Exhibitors can really focus on a retailer’s individual business needs when everyone has already heard the same basic information. Don’t miss this trade show jump start!

BEST OF SHOW – TRADE SHOW, THAT IS! You’ve had a great first day at the trade show. But what did you miss? Was there a cool new product you’re excited about? Are you still looking for that perfect….something? Only one day left, so grab your morning coffee at this informal gathering for sharing experiences, and get ready to make the most of Day Two. This always fun and informative workshop will help you end the trade show on a high note!

KTAI Wholesale Member: Jungo Toys - Farmington, CT

As a manufacturer of flying toys that are not kites, my business partner and I could never have imagined how beneficial being a part of the KTAI would be. A collective enthusiasm for the wonder of flight is at the base of it all and a shared interest in elevating our respective businesses makes for exciting and potent trade show experiences. In

addition, the KTAI community provides real support throughout the year, in ways that you just don't see elsewhere. It's been such a pleasure to do business with so many good people who really care about what they do. I'm a proud member of this group and you will be too if you're not already. Tom Aiezza

KTAI Membership and beyond...A lifetime kiter’s prospective

I have attended the KTAI convention for most of the last 29 years, as a retailer, as owner of The Kite Loft, Key West Kites and Caribbean Adventures, and as a manufacturer/distributer with Peter Powell/Caribbean Kites and In the Breeze. I have seen it from all sides of the fence.

While it is a smaller show, it affords the attendees the opportunity to spend quality time with one another. Whether in the booth, or at the bar, the face time is great. The industries major players are all there, both retailers and manufacturers. As for retailers you’ll probably see a dozen or so of the top 20 in the country/world.

To me, the relationships and information shared at KTAI are the key. The members are very open and enjoy discussing what’s hot and what’s not. There will typically be around 10 or so members at KTAI that gather as a group of 20 or more at Toy Fair with hand-outs, samples etc. to discuss product and processes. They are retailers just sharing their knowledge with others that have an “us against the world” wind related common bond.

Most of the KTAI members also have longevity on their side. I have known just about every owner of every kite company you’ve heard of for 12 – 29 years, there is a lot of knowledge out there and they are generally willing to share. Billy Jones, In The Breeze

Why should you attend the Trade Show? • Take advantage of a unique opportunity to view the hottest products on the market for 2017! • Learn directly from the manufacturers the best ways to market and merchandise their products! • Take advantage of show specials and other discounts not available to anyone except those in attendance! • Build relationships with suppliers! Network with your peers. Share what’s hot, what’s not and learn from each other’s successes and mistakes!

Who Attends the Tradeshow? Look around you - You are part of a dynamic family. Educated, talented, worldly, fun-loving, hard-working, successful, genuine, supportive, and amazingly open people who will quickly become friends.

Successful Manufacturers and Retailers are members. They attend the tradeshow, convention forums, and participate in many aspects of the Association. They all agree the Trade Show is worth their time, effort, and the minimal cost to continue improving, growing, and thriving in this, their chosen industry.

Do you want to be part of the group? Join Us!

Set yourself apart… In this world of on-line ordering, email letters, and quick text notes - Come to the Trade Show! SEE the smiling faces, shake hands, give a hug to those you have only messaged in the past.

This is how lasting partnerships begin. This is your industry. Join together. Be strong and prosper.
