• Rosh Hashana: Jewish New Year. Celebrated in the fall because that was the start of the economic year.
• Yom Kippur: Day of Atonement, October 13 this year.
• Passover: day that remembers when Moses led the slaves out of Egypt.
• Channuka: Celebrated for 8 days in December. It started off as a minor holiday to celebrate the restoration of the temple in Jeruselum after Seleucid forces had looted it and killed many Jews. Now it is more widely celebrated because it comes at the same time as Christmas.
