Married couples: Are there delicate areas in your life that you and your spouse see different-ly? Learn how one couple has learned to navigate these sensitive waters. Please join our Mar-ried Couples Ministry for a free Date Night (child care and wine included!) at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the Stevenson Center. We’ll enjoy a presentation, some “just us” time, and a wine-and-cheese reception with old and new friends. Please RSVP to Carol and Mike Lauser: (610) 874-3986 or [email protected].

Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday)

Divine Mercy Sunday (the second Sunday of Easter) was proclaimed by Pope John Paul II in 2000. The celebration is an opportunity to reflect on how God’s mercy overcomes sin and offers “a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that humankind will experi-ence in the years to come.” (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments)

Our Lenten CRS Rice Bowl project has concluded. Please return your Rice Bowls to the basket on the church altar at any Mass or to the Parish House by April 22. Please do not leave Rice Bowls at the church exits or at the Parish House after hours. If possible, kindly convert your contribution to a check payable to CRS Rice Bowl. Questions? Please call us at (610) 874-3418 x 106. Thank you for your gener-ous support of all in our community and around the world who are served by Catholic Relief Services.

Now & Next

Now: Time to Return Rice Bowls

Providence Center has been providing joy and hope to Philadelphia’s most impoverished community since 1993. A ministry of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Providence Center serves hard-working families with education programming and other services for children, youth, and adults. This weekend, St. John’s welcomes representatives of Providence Center,

who will speak about their mission and needs. A second collection will be taken up at all Masses to benefit the center.

This Weekend: Focus on Providence Center

Next Saturday: Fun and Fellowship for the Blind and Visually Impaired

The Ministry with Persons with Disabilities invites you to Dinner with Friends, a friendly evening of dinner and music for the blind and visually impaired, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 14 in the Stevenson Center. Non-parishioners are warmly welcome. We’ll enjoy a casual dinner followed by a sing-along and open mic. Bring a friend! Please RSVP to Lisa O’Malley at (610) 357-5010 or [email protected].

Celebrate Earth Day at St. John's! Join us after all Masses on April 22 in the Lower Church Hall for coffee and doughnuts as you learn more about caring for God's creation. We will have infor-mation about recycling, reducing waste, composting and local food sources (with free samples). Bring your old sneakers for recycling. Kids can enjoy special activities and a live puppet show! The show begins at 10:40; other activities and refreshments are offered all morning.

Welcome to the Parish Family!

O ur parish family welcomed parishioner Keith Moore into the Catholic faith at the Easter Vigil Mass, where Keith’s wife Julie

and parishioner Gena Scanlan were initiated into full communion with the Church.

After Keith’s baptism (top right), all three participants received the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirma-tion (bottom right).

The Moores and Gena had been preparing for their Sac-raments since the fall with our Rite of Christian Initiation

of Adults team, which serves both adults con-verting to the Catholic faith and those who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initia-tion.

A reception, hosted by Ellen and Dave Tannenbaum, followed the Mass after proud photos with families and sponsors (left top and bottom).

RCIA meets every Sunday after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. To learn more, please contact Elaine Mott at (610) 639-5878 or [email protected]. We warmly welcome you at any time.
