Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Director
This position reports directly to the Pastor in assisting the First Presbyterian
Church to accomplish its mission and ministries.
Qualifications: Person must have a passion for working with children. Person
must have a high school diploma. Person should have an understanding of
progressive, reformed theology that is consistent with the Presbyterian Church
USA
Duties:
1. Be responsible for the planning and running of the Sunday school program
(K-4th grade).
2. Work with the Christian Education committee to evaluate and choose suitable
curricula for the Sunday school program.
3. Attend Christian Education meetings as often as his/her schedule allows
and/or at the request of the CE committee.
4. Maintain accurate rolls of Sunday school youth.
5. Follow up (by phone call or postcard/letter) with youth who miss two (2)
consecutive weeks of Sunday school.
6. Stock and maintain the Christian Education supplies.
7. Inform Christian Education Committee of budgetary needs by September
each year.
8. Notify the congregation/parents of Sunday school events through the bulletin,
newsletter, mailings, and other appropriate means in a timely manner.
9. Write an article or announcement for the monthly newsletter articles.
10. Write a report for the Church’s Annual Report.
The Vacation Bible School Director will:
1. Be responsible for the planning and running of Vacation Bible School (VBS)
the 3rd week of July.
2. Work with the Christian Education committee to choose suitable curriculum
for VBS.
3. Order all materials for VBS.
4. Advertise VBS through the bulletin and newsletter, beginning in May.
5. Arrange adult participation for VBS.
6. Provide all necessary support for VBS teachers/leaders.
7. Provide Christian Education with feedback about VBS (What went well?
What did not?)
Details:
1. Supervised in work and duties by the Pastor. Accountable to the Session
for annual review of performance through the Personnel Committee.
2. Scheduled to work a minimum of 2 hours, no more than 4 hours per
week, which includes prep time and the 50 minute class time, except
during VBS which is 9am-noon 5 days a week, plus prep time.
3. Comply with Personnel Handbook.
4. Pay is $30 a Sunday (September- Mid-June, not including the Sunday
after Thanksgiving, the Sunday after Christmas or Easter Sunday) and
$800 for the week of VBS.
